I absolutely love this episode! IMO, this is truly the first meaningful moment when Barnabas drops his guard and we get a hint of the devoted brother who has suffered so much. The meeting between Barnabas and Sarah showed the humanity Barnabas once had, and hopes to still regain. We've seen glimpses of his human side before, but this episode made me like him all the more!

I really like that little rhyme Barnabas teaches to Sarah, and which she recites back to him so many years later.

Barnabas can't control her the way he can with others, she doesn't have to stay if she doesn't want to, and there's a desperation in his tone that so vividly comes through. He wants the world he knew back, including his humanity and his little sister and he goes so far as to beg for her to remain with him.

I thought it was rather amusing when Liz tells Barnabas she won't allow vicki to love a dead man forever, and Barnabas agrees he'll do his best to see she doesn't, but um excuse me? What exactly is barnabas then?  ;D

This is one of my favorite episodes!

Room 24 is the exception that proves the rule.  I think it is designed to be boring.  The walls are boring.  The doors are boring.

At the risk of sounding ignorant, what and where is "room 24"?

In this episode, it sounds as though Jerry Lacey might have had a slight cold, making him sound more like the charming Trask patriarchs.

I feel bad for Tony, he's being pulled in two different directions, Carolyn on one side, Julia on the other. If I were him I might conveniently "lose" the notebook.  ;D

I wonder what would have happened if Tony would have taken Carolyn up on her offer of taking her to the police. It would have made for an interesting plot twist.

I think it was so cute when Sarah says it took two days to go to Boston.  :)

Spoiler:

When the ghost of Dr. Woodard called Julia on the phone, it brought to mind the beginning of Quentin's story line.

I can't stand the way Barnabas is behaving so sickeningly polite, as if he's oblivious to what torment he's inflicting on Julia!

When Julia tells him she'll do anything if he'll stop what he's doing to her, including returning to Windcliff, I thought, she could simply leave Collinwood that night and have done with the whole mess. But then again, it wouldn't have made for a very interesting show if she would have left.  :)

I really like tony's everyday casual attitude to life.

you have a good point, Lori, when you're alone by yourself and hear a strange noise your imagination can run wild, although we know that none of this was in Julia's mind. Or perhaps it might be. I wonder if Dave's ghost is really appearing to her, or if it's some sort of fiction barnabas has planted in her subconscious? Whatever the case may be, it's all too real to poor Julia.

The thing I really noticed about this episode is that GH portrayed Julia's revulsion of the blood seeping from the wall very realistically.

As much as it pains me to say it, I do think Barnabas would have killed Julia at this point in their relationship, or rather, lack of one. He gets some pleasure out of tormenting her, but in the end, her headstrong nature and her knowledge of his secret would have ultimately caused her death.

It appears that sarah can select who hears her flute and who can't. Even two or more people standing in the same vicinity of a person who hears her flute, can be completely oblivious.

Surprisingly enough, that would be ABC.  :)

If it wasn't the practice at that time to keep the shows, why did ABC keep them? It's great they did!  8)

Tony sure gave Carolyn the cold shoulder after her sudden change in mood upon hearing the dogs howling, telling her he won't be free for lunch that next day. Too cool!

I think Julia should have taken her own advice and left Collinwood, but I think some small part of her wants to believe there's a bit of goodness in Barnabas, despite the appalling way he treated her!

I love Barnabas, but I can't really defend his behavior towards Julia, it was downright cruel, leading her on like that. Even Carolyn, who is under his control, thought it was terrible.
