Maybe if the show went on long enough, it might have come full circle and Vicky eventually would have been transported back to 1966.  [easter_cheesy]

How did 1795 suddenly turn into 1796 (later in the series it will be routinely referred to as 1797)?

Makes me want to yell back at the screen everytime I hear it.

I would wager that no other daytime TV show in 1969 featured a lady-of-the-evening as a character (though there were plenty of "saloon girls" in prime time westerns). And, speaking of prostitutes, doesn't this one violate the first order of the profession which is to never let on to a pillar-of-the-community-type john that you know who is and - worse yet - tell him you're going to run home and reveal his identity to your fellow streetwalkers?  She seems to have flunked Prostitution 101. And she pays dearly for it.

Vicky is having better luck communicating with the people at Collinwood from a different period in time than Barnabas is having contacting Roger in Europe. I didn't realize the system of communication was so bad in the late 1960s. Did he fall off the planet or what? Did he not leave a number where he could be reached in case of emergency? Maybe he only shared it with Elizabeth and she took it with her to the grave (or mausoleum as it were)? The possibilities are endless.

I never quite got why it takes so long for Chris' werewolf curse to kick in, since clearly the moon has been up for quite some time before he actually goes through the transformation.

It always strikes me as a bit odd - but in a good way - when a character in DS actually makes a reference to some mundane aspect of the real, non-supernatural world such as going to a movie. That set me off on speculating what movie Joe and Amy had just seen (provided it was a then-current film). Seeing as it's December 1968, my bet is on "Oliver!" or "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang." Guess we'll never know for sure.

Yes, she is very good. Funny thing: in my memory of the show, Amy was also by David's side in the Gerard storyline. Imagine my shock when I watched the series years later and found out it was a different girl altogether. Ah, memory plays weird tricks on a person. Just think how many other false memories we carry around with us through life.

One of the reasons that I like this classic episode so much is that it makes the house (i.e. Collinwood) itself a character in the drama in a way it hadn't been since the early days of the series. It's like the writers suddenly remembered that they had this great mysterious setting that they'd somehow allowed to devolve into a mere residence for people to hold conversations in.

First-rate start to the next storyline (though I wonder why they didn't have the phone ring when Amy was sleeping).

That final scene was very oddly structured, with a handful of characters in a single room, all attending to their own bit of business at the same time: Nickolas fearing he will be punished for his failure to bring Eve to life; Barnabas chasing after Nickolas in an effort to finally rid themselves of him forever; Adam pouting in the corner because he knows he's going to be alone for the rest of his life; and Julia attending to Maggie's health and temporary amnesia. It seems very chaotic, yet there is an undeniable dynamism and energy to the scene that makes the whole thing work.

I entirely agree with you on the episodes set in 1995 (which I re-saw for the first time IN 1995 when the series was shown on the Scyfy Channel!). I remember that that was the first time in watching DS that I couldn't fall asleep because I was so freaked out by what I saw. I think it was the blue light in the deserted mansion's window and, then later, the lit-up ghost of Gerard standing behind Carolyn and David while they were developing photos in the dark room. Those two scenes had a real visceral impact on me as a child.

Poor Alexandra. The minute she leaves, suddenly her character is being let in on all the secrets at Collinwood that she's been left in the dark about all these years. Hardly seems fair.

And when did Barnabas suddenly become the protector and defender of Maggie, a woman he's more than once been willing to do away with if it meant his own well-being and safety (even in his post-vampire stage when Willie was holding her prisoner in the mausoleum)?

Thanks for posting this. I'm not sure why my homepage doesn't have the archive button anymore. It hasn't for a couple of weeks. Must be my computer acting up. A mystery worthy of Collinwood itself (in the cybernetic age, that is).

I did find a way in, however, that involves going into Current Talk II '16, then scrolling down to the "jump to" function in the bottom right corner. It's taking a bit longer, but at least I'm getting there.

Again, thanks for the response.

Am I missing something, but suddenly I don't see the link that used to exist on the front page to take the user to the archive pages.  Why is it no longer there and how do we now get to all the old threads, particularly the watching projects from the past?

Thanks for your help.

Exit Alexandra - stage left [ghost_sad]

Julia's reaction to seeing Chris Jennings has always been one of my favorite laugh-out-loud moments of the series. I kind of wish they'd had the nerve to go all the way with it and have Julia crash through the hospital window in an effort to get away a la the Cowardly Lion in "The Wizard of Oz." That would have been quite something to see!

I'm confused about the book. Joshua wants to make sure future generations see a scrubbed version of the Collins' history (i.e., Barnabas going back to England instead of becoming a vampire), but isn't the book Vickie brought with her from the 1960s ALREADY a scrubbed account of that history? I mean, none of those untoward events were in the book anyway, were they?

Am I missing something here?

Time-traveling scenarios make my head hurt!   [ghost_huh]
