Good/evil, vampire/human, spiky bangs/no bangs, period costumes/60s suits, in love/moping, no sense of humor/glimmerings of sarcasm, torturing Julia/giving her hope, psycho/sweetie pie....

In the end, it doesn't really matter to me. I'll take him any way I can get him. :-*

Boy Kading, who is so looking forward to this Tuesday!

Current Talk '03 I / Re:Classic Blooper edited out on MPI DVD#6
« on: June 30, 2003, 04:08:50 PM »
To edit (after the fact) or not to edit? I'm not going to take sides in this debate, but I think what it really shows after all these years is that DC was a bit remiss in his duties on several occasions.

We've all heard how ruinously expensive it was to edit video back then, but I seriously doubt that a snip here or there, say once a month, would've caused too much damage to the budget. I think the simple fact was that TPTB (DCP) were just not terribly interested or concerned about "trivial" matters such as these.

I think DC took the "actors as cattle" viewpoint and didn't care too much about flubs and that sort of thing. Which is pretty disrespectful, if you ask me.

I like a good blooper now and then - "incestors", Quentin's sword thing, Barn walking through the set carrying his streeet clothes - but stuff like someone having to be prompted off-stage and the star of the show caught picking his nose are just inexcusable. I just don't see how it would have hurt them to simply edit those out *the day they were shot*.

Lisa Richards also has a starring role in this funny little picture called Eating by Henry Jaglom.

It's about women and food and is not bad. A little self-absorbed but hey. It's sort of a pseudo-documentary because all the women play actresses, mirroring their real lives.

I'm thinking it's about 10 years old and it also stars Mary Crosby. Yep, the one who shot J.R.

I think it's also her hair -- that honey blond is not doing her justice. She really needs the lighter blond she used to have to brighten up her fair coloring. I should know -- I'm in the same boat. And what a white boat it is. :)

Don't apologize for you attitude, Luciaphil! I like the bitterness.
And I do think it's justified.

I must admit the show is not making sense to me at all these days. I've pretty much given up for now on following each thread and just try to enjoy certain scenes.

Okay, last time I checked vampires were sensitive tonatural sunlight. Flashlights and electric lamps were not a problem.

I think Megan was just hungover. Aiiii! That's how I react on those bad mornings.

Meanwhile, Barnabas is screaming "Let me in!" WTF? The man is just totally addicted to drama.

LOL! You're right. But I think Mr. B. is only at his best when he's upset about something. I hate to say it but he looks so cute when he's confused, shocked or worried. All his smiling at the beginning of Leviathan was just disturbing.

Another great installment!

Great, hilarious column!

Her lips looked nearly as bad as that skanky chick's they had on the U.S. version of What Not to Wear (yes, I watch reality TV. Deal with it ;)).

I think I know exactly who you mean. The Christina Aguilera-lookalike college ho from Florida? If she's any indication of our nation's youth, I shudder. I love this show but the BBC version is so much better, don't you think?

And modeling the dumb, young, Gothic governess attire, we have Maggie. I do think the up-do works for her and it's refreshing to see her in something that covers more than the top part of her upper thigh.

Yes, but that dress looked like a track suit without a bottom. The big floppy pockets over her breasts and the wide ribbed waistband. Fugly.

What on earth does the devoted Mrs. Rumson see in this dork?

I totally thought the same thing! He is not that great looking, as some on the boards have claimed, with those beady little eyes, and he is the worst actor on the show. Which is saying something. I could barely stand to listen to him. I kept imagining the other actors trying to stay in character but cringing at his every utterance. It's kind of mind-blowing when you realize that he actually went on to have some kind of career.

And when exactly was she happy at the Old House? Talk about selective memory.

LOL! Yeah and she actually says, "This is where it all started." Which was amazing because they're always going on and on about Martinique. And if you ask me, hot-sex-in-the-sand beats out tragic-unpleasant-string-of-events-that-winds-up-in-death-and-eternal-curse anyday.

Please hurry with your next installment!

Speaking of Tvography, I just watched the Buffy edition (gearing up for the finale tomorrow night) that I Tivo'd last week and right at the beginning they say "From Dracula to Dark Shadows..." and then they showed the title screen of "HODS" and old Barn coming up close for a bite. I think I frightened the cats with my infernal yayying!

Thankfully, the husband could not be reached for comment as he was out at a wine event. (We live in the wino country here in California.)

It really doesn't take much to make my night, does it??  :)

So are you suggesting our Dr Hoffman has a S&M fetish going on?  She likes to be dominated since she has to be so strong being a female doctor in the 60s?   8)  Who can see Julia in leather and carrying a whip but . .. then that would mean she's the Dominatrix. . .hmmm. . .

I'm just saying that much like Morrissey (ex-lead singer of The Smiths) she wants "the one [she] can't have".

But you introduce a new wrinkle that I hadn't considered. You may have something there. Not sure B. would go for it though. Remember, he's only *pretending* to be British.

(Actually The Smiths are the perfect soundtrack for Dark Shadows. Very maudlin, morbid and full of self-loathing. And yet kinda catchy.)

Personally I was thrilled to see Barnabas as a bad guy, and to this day, I still prefer to see his wicked side rear its ugly head.

Oh yeah! Me too. Compared with the beginning of the series, Frid seems more confident being evil now. I love the things he's doing with his eyes, those weird flashes he does when talking Carolyn out of knocking boots with Chris and watching the Todds disappear up his staircase at the Old House.

As for Julia, yes, it's sad how he's treating her, but hey she knew the job was dangerous when she took it. Besides, I think there's a side of her that sorta likes it. :-*

The bodies of B.?

Actually, I'm surprised Angie hasn't made one just for her own use. It might make her a little less cranky. [witch]

And while she's at it, I'll take one too!

Current Talk '03 I / Re:TV Parallels to the Barn/Julia Relationship
« on: March 14, 2003, 07:20:39 PM »
Great idea for a thread!

Having never seen the Sopranos (and me a Scorsese/Coppola fan!), I'm afraid I can't comment on Tony and his shrink. But I have to admit that when I saw Sharon Osbourne interviewed by Baba Wawa last year, there was something in the way she talked about Ozzy, their marriage and his reaction to her illness that was sort of Jullia-and-Barnabesque.

After all, Sharon has lovingly taken care of him through thick and thin (literally), she's forgiven him for extremely awful, sometimes criminal, behavior, she's devoted, loyal, and extremely competant (in fact, I'll bet Sharon could set up a generator and create a man in her basement any day of the week!).

While he also is extremely powerful in his way, well loved (warts and all) and is utterly dependent on her. He's also had some dalliances with SYTs...does this sound familiar at all?  :D

Current Talk '03 I / Barn's letter to Julia
« on: March 05, 2003, 05:17:29 PM »
Did anyone else notice that he never addressed the envelope? He just grabs it, seals it and sticks it in the cubbyhole. And then in 1969 Nora reads it aloud: "Dr. Julia Hoffman". You don't think they were two different letters, do you?  ;)

Guess he's got a real crack admin assistant.

And yes, I actually went back to see if he may have addressed it before he wrote the letter and he didn't. And yes, it pains me to admit that I'm this obsessed but there you go.
