...  I won't even get into how I feel about flying to the other coast on a holiday weekend cuz that would undoubtedly trigger one of the forum's censored words.

LOL!  Probably the only thing to laugh about concerning this whole issue...couldn't have picked a worse weekend.  And, while a bus trip from NYC to RI is a nice idea, but the practicality of it, especially on that weekend is virtually nil.  I know I wouldn't want to be sitting on I-95 for hours and hours...

Haven't seen Seizure yet but I can't say I'm anxious to. :-/

The movie is pretty bad, and I'll admit it took me a couple of sittings to get through the whole thing.  It is interesting to see Frid on film in a non-DS role, which is the only reason to watch it (IMO).

Thanks for the link...I always enjoy his sense of humor!  And I do hope he decides to put some of his readings on CD...such a distinctive voice.

For those of you who couldn't get enough of Roger Davis' promo video for his housing development at the last Festival and for those of you who missed it and want to know what all the fuss is about, I have some exciting news.

LOL, that was so bizarre!  Of course, the whole ending to the fest was so bizarre that this kind of fit right in.
Thanks for the nostalgia  ;-)

The 1897 "family" is one of my favorites.  Joan Bennett *finally* has a substantial character, and Selby is superb.  As for Carl...I'm not following the current run very closely so don't know how far we're into this yet...but the episode where Barn. meets Carl is one of those classic DS moments.
Gotta get out those MPI tapes, lol.

Magda was Grayson's favorite DS role, so you should really catch as much of her as you can. She has some of the best lines of dialogue in the entire storyline (if not the entire series), and Grayson and Frid share great screen moments that run the gamut from comedy to tragedy.

Playing Magda was undoubtedly more fun than portaying Julia, especially considering Grayson's own flamboyant personality :-)
Yeah, it's campy and all that, but a lot of fun to watch...

Dennis Patrick was the highlight of this year's fest (for me).  Though obvoiusly physically frail, his wit and spirit were more than intact.  He looked absolutely exhausted during that autograph line, but persevered for the sake of the fans.  Loved the pictures in the earlier post on this thread.  He will be missed.

I'm probably a minority of one, by I actually thought this was one of Roger Davis's better roles.  As the obnoxious and belligerent Ned Stuart, Roger Davis is very convincing.  As Robin mentioned, at least Ned has an excuse for all his shouting.  Furthermore, while Peter Bradford and Jeff Clark were meant to be leading men, we're not supposed to like Ned, (and judging from the comments so far, Davis was quite successful in achieving this aspect) who has come to Collinsport to threaten Chris Jennings, one of the current main characters.  Actually, I think Dan Curtis knew exactly what he was doing when he cast the part. ;)

My thoughts exactly.  I find Jeff Clark much more irritating because he's *suppose* to be a good guy, and we're *suppose* to like him.  Ned has no redeeming qualities, and I think it the character was designed for us to hate, lol.

If I wasn't so lazy, "Barnabas in Boston" sounds like good material for fanfiction...I can just see David and Amy running amok and B. trying desperately to keep order, lol.  He might even have to loosen that tie!

As for Julia...I remember the episode described here, I'll have to watch it again.  As I recall, it certainly was "Julia in Charge".  I would like to have seen more of that side of her, rather than the side that so predictably caved in to B.'s whims.

Well, don't know if I qualify, as I was 10 years old in 1969...but have to say that I wasn't attracted to Quentin...he scared the s*** out of me, lol.  He certainly was riveting, though!  After seeing him in 1897, I must have softened a little...I remember playing my own arrangement of "Quentin's Theme" at one of my piano recitals ;-)

Yeah, it's either "Have a sedative", "Here's a brandy", or "Let's have a seance"...

So he was accustomed to being attracted to SYT, because technicaly, he was a YT himself.  Even when Willie busted him out of that coffin, Barnabas STILL was attracted to SYT's because that's what pursued in his 1795 youth.

I understand and appreciate this position, although I never bought the premise that "present day" Barnabas was anything but 40ish and Angelique was 30 at the very least.  It probably isn't that unusual that Barn. should pursue SYT's...most men are attracted to them.  The thing that has always irritated me is that there were just *so* many SYT's that became Barn's "true loves".  By the end of the series...

Miss Winthrop,

Didn't Grayson Hall once say of one of the DS child actors:  "Forty, if she's a day!"?  I'll bet that Ms. Hall was referring to the precocious and extremely talented Denise Nickerson.

Yes, I've seen that quote also...quite the compliment from GH.  I wholeheartedly agree...Denise Nickerson was a real pro even at that age, and a delight to watch.  She and Henesy played off eachother so naturally, it was easy to forget they were acting.

This is absolutely a trivial comment like only I can make but WHAT was with the wardrobe. . sometimes we are subjected to seeing the most horrendous outfits over and over again . .

All I can say is...you had to be there, lol.  The wardrobe the "present day" Collins clan wore was actually an accurate representation of what we were wearing at the time.  I hate to admit it, but I owned one of those "quilt" skirts too!
I've read comments on another list about people's ages, etc., so know how old you are J99...see what you missed out on???  ;-)

The only good thing about Ms. Durkin's stint on DS is that is very short!
