For me, it is gratifying that, after over 40 years, Dark Shadows is still a popular attraction.  Debb/Burton will do everything they can to recapture the energy and spirit of the original series, but they must also appeal to a "Modern" audience.  That means making adjustments that the most devoted fans may find painful.  If the show fails at the Box Office, we will not see any sequels.  We must keep Dark Shadows going far into the future. For all its faults, there has never been a show like Dark Shadows and probably never will be.  These were (and are for many of us) our heroes.  The tacky sets, the flubbed lines, the makeup, (in some cases applied with a paint roller) and the bizzare fashions made the show all the more endearing.  Although I eagerly await the new movie, nothing will come close to the fun of the original series for me.

I didn't discover Dark Shadows until the introduction of Barnabas.  My Mother hated the show, but it didn't matter.  It helped me escape, if only for 30 minutes each day, an otherwise unhappy childhood.  Thank you Collinwood, for giving me something to look foward to each weekday afternoon. I have the entire series on videotape and watch it nearly every day.  And it never fails...You always come across something you overlooked.  Dark Shadows is one of my few, fond, childhood memories.

I would be interested in seeing a picture of this, if you are ever able to upload the image.

Many Fans complained that the show was too slow and the producers did speed it up.  The problem with that is if you missed more than a few episodes, it was very easy to lose track of the storyline.  Also, as Jonathan Frid once said, the show dealt with "very specific material."  Eventually, all of the major Horror Stories were exhausted and the show "ran out of gas."

Agreed.  Before we can Constructively Critique the Film, We need to See the Film.

As a very impressionable 11-year-old, Addison Powell's performance as Dr. Eric Lang will always be fondly remembered as one of the best Dark Shadows had to offer.  It really bothered me when his character ended and it was always my hope that Dr. Lang would somehow return to the show.  Just like Michael Maitland, the character ended much too soon.  I had always wanted to write to Addison, but didn't know his address.  It was uplifting to read of his many accomplishments throughout his life.  My heart goes out to his entire family during this painful time.  Michael Comella [hall2_cry]

I had the pleasure off attending one of Jonathan's "Readers Theater's" during the summer of '91.  He spoke with me briefly after the performance and showed no indication of a speech impediment.  He has admitted being a "slow study" and this may be because he not only had to learn his lines, but also deal with a lisp.  Who knows. The 1897 Storyline is when Dark Shadows reached its Zenith.  So popular was Magda, Quentin and Count Petofi, to name a few of the memorable characters, that Dan Curtis extended the storyline 3 months longer than originally planned.

Agreed.  That scene is one of the best of the entire series.  It showed that in the end, Barnabas and Magda respected each other.

Daytime Television of 1970 would have never allowed such a graphic death.  Dan Curtis must have loved making House of Dark Shadows because he did not have to worry about censors.  He could make scenes as bloody and gory as he liked.   [ghost_tongue2]
