Spoilers ahead:

When I watched this episode for the first time, I didn't think there was any way Barnabas and Jeremiah would go through with the duel, and if they did, they certainly wouldn't really fire their weapons. How wrong I was!

I can't stand Angelique! She was as much responsible for his death as was Barnabas. How could she be so heartless to tear a family apart?  >:( :'(

After the part where Joshua says Barnabas will be considered part of the enemy if he helps Vicki, was the music at the end of that scene different from what we've previously heard? I don't remember hearing it before.

Spoiler:

I don't like watching these tragic episodes, they're so depressing, knowing that no one will get a happy ending.  :(

I feel so sorry for Naomi, what with the countess and Abigail badgering her to question Vicki.

Poor Joshua, having no memory of being gone for an entire week, it was obvious he was unsettled by it.

The screeching of the cat always amuses me.

Why is everyone so worried about people being alone in the woods? Are there wild animals or something?  ???

Where is Naomi during all this? It would have been nice to have her input. She could have also comforted Barnabas.

All I can say about Angelique is that she enjoys torturing people, even the man she claims to love. Ruining people's lives doesn't bother her one bit, as long as she gets what she wants.  >:(

Angelique sure knows how to play the injured party, first acting like she feels bad for trying to help Josette with her headache, then when Josette hesitates to pin the amulet to her dress. If only her energies would have been directed more positively, she could have been a very caring person.

Doesn't anyone care that Barnabas and Josette are marrying without Joshua? You would have thought Naomi would have protested at the very least.

It was quite funny when the countess impersonated Joshua.

I want to give Vicki a bit of credit for not falling for the trick the countess set up for her, by saying her birth year incorrectly.

It was also rather clever of Vicki to arrange the cards to foretell the future.

Spoiler:

Even if Josette and Barnabas were successfully married right away, Angelique would still have been able to work her magic to tear them apart. Marriage wasn't the answer at that time, discovering Angelique's true part in all of this might have been the only chance the Collins family had.

When Ben is working outside, there are birds singing up a storm. Hello, it's supposed to be winter, yet you'd think it was the middle of summer.

Ben should have stayed quiet about Jeremiah to Angelique. Perhaps then Jeremiah could have gone through with leaving.

Why isn't Barnabas more puzzled by Josette's fervent desire for Jeremiah to stay? It's not like she was very fond of him in the first place. Then just as quickly she changes her mind. If I was Barnabas I would be confused by Josette's behavior.

When Josette and Jeremiah are under the spell, I wonder why when they're returned to their normal state, why they don't tell someone what's going on.

I don't know why Angelique claimed she couldn't stop the chain of events that she'd set in motion, not even if she wanted to. They could have easily been brought to a halt unless Angelique is so unskilled with her spells that now this one is running rampant.

I noticed that Jeremiah seems to be doing all the resisting against Josette, while she seems to simply give in to her feelings. Perhaps the spell effects women differently than men.

I liked the way Andre was so very shocked upon learning that Jeremiah and Josette were kissing.

I don't think Natalie was aware of what went on between Barnabas and Angelique, otherwise she most likely wouldn't have allowed a relationship between he and Josette.

One of my favorite moments in DS, Barnabas teaching Ben to write the alphabet, it's so neat! It shows us just how kind and generous he was, and that he respected a servant enough to educate him.  8)

The countess is excellent, she knows she's difficult and demanding, and she's proud of it.

Spoilers ahead:

Poor Ben, being manipulated by Angelique to do her dirty work, helplessly watching as one tragedy after another befalls the Collins family and unable to stop it, or even to warn them.

I love how Barnabas is so kind to Ben, offering to give him a better life with him and Josette.

I very much enjoy watching the scenes between Barnabas and Jeremiah. They really are very close, and it shows. I only wish we could have seen more of them interacting with each other.

Maybe that skull was the head of Judah Zackery.  ;D LOL!

Can you imagine Jeremiah's shock upon Josette coming in to his room and practically throwing herself at him?

Excellent acting by all.

Ben's fierce loyalty to Barnabas is very admirable. He doesn't want Angelique to do anything that will make Barnabas unhappy, and he doesn't want to help her either.

Is it really possible to remove a spider's web from a tree without breaking it?

I love the way Jeremiah stood up to Joshua when he said he had no desire to marry Millicent. Good for him!

Spoiler:

Joshua is very accustomed to getting his way in most matters, which makes me wonder if events hadn't unfolded the way they did, might Jeremiah have ended married to Millicent despite his protests?

Having never seen the pre-Barnabas episodes, I was confused by Vicki's screaming about Ben's resemblance to a man named Matthew Morgan, but then realized he must have been someone from those episodes.

Joshua sure loves being king of the castle doesn't he?

Spoiler:

I'm glad we finally get to see Ben, a servant Barnabas actually holds in high regard and affection. If everyone would have been as observant as Ben, maybe Angelique would have been caught performing witchcraft. She lured him in with flattery, giving him false hopes of a relationship, when her only intentions were to use him.  >:(

I wonder who she was intending to poison with the nightshade. We never saw her use it to my knowledge, unless she used a smaller amount in a potion that wouldn't be deadly.

Looking at how Angelique worked her wiles with Ben Stokes even before she had any idea of enslaving him, I have absolutely no doubt that she made the first move with Barnabas.

An idea I'd never thought of just occurred to me. Is it possible Angelique, upon barnabas's arrival in Martinique, saw him and wanting to improve her status in society, and perhaps a little smitten with him, decided that the only way to get him was to bewitch him with a spell or potion? Might she have already enslaved him in Martinique before we ever saw her doing anything at Collinwood? I realize barnabas turned to Josette after a time, claiming he loved her, but Angelique, as we have already witnessed isn't a very skilled witch. maybe the effects of the spell gradually wore off without her knowing , and by the time she realized what had happened, Barnabas had already returned home before she could renew it. Just a thought...
