If the golden anniversary was held somewhere in Maine, make sure to invite Stephen King who has always been a DS fan like us, and was inspired by DS for many of his writings.  I'm sure he'd come, even for free.  I bet he would even help put things together.  He's an ultra-nice guy.  I met him once by accident when he sat down next to me in an airport lounge.  He loves DS.  We had a short, but fascinating, talk.

If a HoDS sequel/prequel had been set in the 1790's, I imagine Lara Parker would've played Angelique, and maybe Jeremiah would've been played by David Selby.   Phyllis Wickes?  Who better but Kate Jackson.  I could see John Karlen doing Nathan Forbes since he was such a versatile actor and co-acted splendidly with Nancy Barrett.  Could anyone imagine them being husband and wife in PT70?  They did it to perfection.

Barnabas:  "I've been dealing with curses, werewolves, phoenixes and murders, but the worst thing about it all is that you're really, really annoying."

I remember when I saw the "aged" Dustin Hoffman in Little Big Man.  I thought:  "My god, he looks just like Barnabas [in HoDS]."  Back then, I didn't know the connection.  RIP.

I'm thinking, Michael, if they had made it, it would've been the original, non-time-travel story sans Vicki.  Phyllis Wickes would have remained the original governess but I wonder if they also would've "stretched" it out with the witchcraft trial and all that, instead ending it with Barnabas being permanently entombed by Joshua.

Quentin's Ghost:  "I've haunted this dump for 60 years and finally drove everyone out and now I'm stuck with an empty house and I can't even change the TV station they left on.  I should've gone to purgatory."

The Doctor, I just finished reading your - can I call it? - "Reader's Digest Condensced Version" of your novel adaptation of NoDS and it was brilliant!  And, yes, you did reference what happened to the characters from HoDS making it a direct sequel!  Wonderful!  It was superior to anything "Marilyn Ross" would've prosed.

Now, somewhat on the same topic, here's a question thrown out to our fantastic general audience.  Dan Curtis originally wanted to do a "direct" sequel to HoDS where Barnabas returns but the concept was ended when Mr. Frid refused to reprise the role.  If it had gone forward, what would've happened?  Most of the original cast had been offed.  All that was left of the major characters was Elizabeth, David, Maggie, Jeff and Todd.  Oh, and Mrs. Johnson.  There wasn't much left to build on.
