"Theme from a Man and a Woman" is heard several times on the show, including, if memory serves, in the drawing room at Collinwood.

I would definitely give A&C Meet Frankenstein another go, MB.  It is definitely an enjoyable film.  (It's the only other time Lugosi actually plays Dracula on film!)

I know what you mean about "good" and "evil" becoming commonplace themes in monster movies, where good isn't necessarily defined as being a non-monster entity.  It's funny how something like a monster, which is supposed to represent evil, has evolved into a rather dynamic concept.  Then again, that idea has been present in monster lore even as early as Shelley's novel (if not before).  But, I think it's funny how prominent it has become.  I think Dark Shadows had a lot to do with that, though the Universals before that had a lot to do with it too.

I also like your idea about the class distinction between vampires and werewolves.  In the words of Barnabas:  "What an interesting observation."    [ghost_wink]

In the Universals, the first monster pair-up was the Frankenstein Monster and the Wolf Man.  They did not get along, because the Wolf Man didn't get along with anybody in his wolf form.  The first time that the Wolf Man actually interacted with Dracula on any MAJOR level was probably in the last chapter of the Universal Monster Movies, Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein.  In this movie, Dracula and the Wolf Man are clearly enemies, even when the Wolf Man, Larry Talbot, is human.  As a human, Larry symbolizes something akin to "good," while Dracula symbolizes pure evil.

Honestly, now that I own the Revival soundtrack, I am pretty much good.  The main reason I wanted a new DS was to hear Bob Cobert's music brought to the modern day - the main theme, Josette's Music box, etc.

If they do make the movie and I get new arrangements of those tunes, then I will be golden.  But, if they make the movie and leave out that important Cobert music, you can count me out.  It won't be DS without, at the very least, Cobert's big three themes.  I have noticed Burton tends to let Elfman do his own thing with the music.  If this is the case with DS and there is no Cobert used, then I'd rather not see it.

It's funny how a little thing like the music can be the determinant as to whether I want a new film or not, but it's that simple for me.  So long as I can recognize the characters, the setting, and the music, I will be good.  If I can't do that, then we're in trouble.

Happy birthday!

Well, that is weird.

I don't mind Josette and the house.  Those elements look decent, but Barnabas and the font just look all wrong to me.  And the fancied-up Dracula font wouldn't even be that bad if it weren't for the script below it, causing my brain to have to process three completely different, non-complimentary fonts on one cover.  It's really not that bad of a cover, but it just doesn't do the show justice.  It looks so Twilight/Vampire Diaries-esque, and this series was so much more mature than that.

The posters, in my opinion, give the show the respect it deserves.  But, I guess we shouldn't expect that if the company can't even bother to correct the errors it made in editing the show.  Three releases now and not a single correction...  *sigh*

Well, the next time that they attempt to release this series, I would appreciate it if they would use one of the VERY DECENT looking 1991 print ads (posters) for the cover.  I don't care for this cover much at all.  In fact, I like it less than the original cover with the snow owl Barnabas.  At least that cover had an awesome spooky scene, albeit it had nothing really to do with Dark Shadows.

MB, in regards to the other sites selling it, I think that is probably right.

There must have been some exclusive deal with SAE in regards to this project.  And while I am happy to own this awesome soundtrack which I have wanted for years, I would have liked to have seen it get more distribution.  But, we have it now and it is available to those who know about it, so that is what really matters.  Now we just need to get more people to know about it!   [ghost_smiley]

I, too, received a magnet.  It is on the fridge!  Now I have Dark Shadows in the living room, bedroom, and kitchen!

I was perturbed to see that apparently Amazon aren't carrying the 1991 soundtrack CD.  Very peculiar.  It only seems to be avalable through the link that was posted at the beginning of this thread.

The back of the CD says it is sold exclusively at ScreenArchives.com.

This is one of the best, (if not the best), Dark Shadows music collections, imo.  For anyone who loves Josette's Music Box, this is a must.  I had no idea that it was used so frequently in so many different arrangements.  The new arrangements of the classic tunes and the AMAZING new recordings are breathtaking.  This is Bob Cobert at his finest.  This CD collection is an absolute dream come true.  I would recommend it to ALL DS fans.  Whether you are a fan of the '91 series or not, this collection is a must for any Dark Shadows music lover.

As an aside, the arrangements of the DS theme used in the pilot are SUPERB.  They should have been kept for the whole run.

Grayson never wore anything like that, though.  With some color on the face and some Orhbach's fashions, it could work.

When it comes to rap, and a familiar tune is used in the background, I tend to have this particular problem:  I don't listen to ANYTHING except that tune.  There was one rap song someone had me listen to that had "Love Story" in the background.  I heard nothing except "Love Story."  The same thing happened here.  I heard nothing but the Dark Shadows theme.  Everything else got tuned out.  I don't know if that says more about me or the artists...  I appreciate the fact that I got to hear the tune again, though.  :-)

In fact, I think it COULD be.  Get that doll over to Orhbach's immediately!

Some of the prototypes have been improved since the Fest pics, namely Adam.  They still need some help, but they're getting there.

But who is the figure in front of the DS placard supposed to be?  Surely that is not Julia Hoffman...
