Do you mean instead shut in the closet, MT?

Yes, Eve's death (so to speak) was very dramatic--I remember those struggling silhouettes and MW's staring eyes--she never blinked.  [snow_shocked] Eve probably should have worn something that would have allowed her to have some sort of weapon on her. But her other big mistake was telling Adam one time too many that he was ugly.

Jeff arrives home, bus timetable in hand, and is packing his few belongings (several shirts, ten ties, and eight books) when Vicki arrives. When he tells her he’s going to New York, she tells him, Things won’t be better there. I don’t care who you are! I love you anyway! I’ll even marry you tonight! He keeps packing. However, when he opens the closet door, he shuts it again quickly. Don’t look! he warns her sharply. She can’t help herself and and opens it--then screams at the sight of Eve’s lifeless body huddled on the floor, her wide-open eyes staring at nothing.

I meant only numerically in terms of the number of episodes, but yeah, I see what you mean.

I think Adam doesn't even know what sex IS yet.  And Eve is fully capable of stalling him for months even after he does find out.

 [snow_laugh] [snow_laugh] [snow_laugh]

At any rate, she's certainly done something that made him very happy. Given her experience and his total lack of same, it might not even have to be very much.

DS Wiki has some nice frame grabs of Vicki's beautiful wedding gown. Elizabeth tells her that every bride needs something borrowed--and lends her Naomi's own priceless wedding veil.

When Jeff returns with his letter from the past, he wants to see Vicki. Roger warns her that it's bad lucl for the groom to see the bride before the ceremony, but Vicki goes downstairs anyhow. Meanwhile, Roger laments the misfortune that seems to plague the Collinses and their friends, mainly because he’s worried Elizabeth will have a relapse.

Jeff shows Vicki the letter, which she reads with astonishment equal to his. He tells her he got it from a woman named Eve, who claims to have known him in 1795. MT, as far as I know, it never crosses Vicki's mind that Peter might have been two-timing her.

Jeff feels he can’t marry Vicki now. There’s one thing he has to do first, and he rushes off to the old cemetery do it, leaving Vicki in tears, insisting that his identity doesn’t matter to her. Upstairs, Roger thinks Elizabeth should wait for Vicki to return, but Elizabeth suddenly gets a flash of the family’s second sight: In her mind’s eye, she sees Vicki on the terrace and knows Vicki needs her. Elizabeth finds her on the terrace just as she had seen. Roger arrives a moment later, and Vicki tells them that Jeff said he was going to the old cemetery. Roger volunteers to make some excuse to the the guests (who manage to survive by remaining invisible). There certainly will be no wedding today.

Roger comes back from sending the guests away. Vicki tells him what Jeff told her; she is sure he won’t return today. Roger gamely sets off for Eagle Hill. Elizabeth has not had a relapse as Roger feared; instead, she is quite like her usual self and gives Vicki loving support throughout this ordeal.

Roger arrives at Eagle Hill just as Jeff, his tuxedo covered with dirt, is prying open Peter Bradford’s coffin. Please don’t do this, Roger begs him. Jeff insists, I must know if Peter Bradford is dead! I need to know the truth about myself before I can marry Vicki! Roger watches apprehensively as Jeff raises the lid....

BTW, we are just about at the mid-point in the series.

Stokes was interested in all kinds of psychic phenomena, so he might have become involved with the family while investigating Laura.

Carolyn knew Tom a bit because he had done some work for the Collinses. But without Angelique, he would have lived, and maybe brought Amy to Collinwood at some point, so she still could have met David. So we might still have the Quentin-Beth story. The writers could have killed Tom off some other way in order to bring Chris to Collinwood and start the Quentin's curse story.

Thanks, dom. I've always been glad that we have it from JB herself that Vicki was Elizabeth's (older) daugher after all.

Gerard, Carolyn's fate is hilarious, as is most of the rest of your version.

Doctor, I also wondered a teeny bit about that plane crash. But unless Barnabas could somehow bat himself to South America overnight, I don't see how it could have happened.

Elizabeth comes to Vicki's room as Vicki tries on her beautiful wedding dress--pure white satin with lots of lace. Vicki admits to some misgivings, but Elizabeth reassures her.

At almost the same time, Eve returns from her time traveis. Nicholas reminds her of her promise to at least pretend she cares for Adam. Nicholas is surprised when instead of arguing or coming on to him, Eve agrees readily.

Eve obeys Nicholas and pretends to like Adam, even telling him, I’ve fallen in love with you. Poor Adam is very happy as he takes her in his arms and kisses her. She reassures him that there isn’t another man. That is a good thing, Adam replies, because right now I would kill him.

Later, Adam and Eve are lounging (yes! lounging) before the fire in the drawing room, so we must assume that events have taken their natural course between these two extremely unnatural beings even though no one in Collinsport EVER has sex! In any event, Adam is extremely happy and Eve is doing a really good job of pretending.

Vicki tells Elizabeth that she'll carry roses--because they're Peter's favorite. She freezes, but Elizabeth gently tells her that soon she'll forget all about the past.

Nicholas returns to his home, where Adam greets him with the news that Eve loves him (A.)! Did you have anything to do with this? Adam asks, prepared to be grateful. Nicholas replies ruefully, My powers have no control over human emotions. Adam asks if they can leave, and Nicholas says the usual “soon, soon.” Adam is so happy that he doesn’t notice he’s getting the same old answer.

Vicki returns from somewhere to find a pile of wedding gifts. I didn’t expect so many, our humble heroine marvels. With a fond smile, Elizabeth tells her, It’s a sign of how many people wish you well. Vicki has a moment of happiness when she unwraps what turns out to be a necklace belonging to one of her teachers at the orphanage. Vicki always admired the necklace and the teacher (Miss Norris) used to let her wear it for special occasions, so she’s touched that Miss Norris actually gave it to her (we can assume it doesn’t have any charms on it). But her happiness turns to dread and fear when she opens a large package that turns out to be--yes, the Collins family history, the very book she took with her when she went back in time to 1795, and which remained there after she returned to the present. A card is tucked inside, inscribed with one word: “Peter”....

1059
Vicki would still be David's tutor, although she might face a life of lonely spinsterhood.

Joe and Maggie would have gotten married. And Sam would still be alive.

Willie would have remained a violent, two-bit punk and might have been run out of town with Jason.

Eric Lang probably would have finished the experiment himself, but he would have had to find somebody else to be his resurrectionist.

NO NED STUART!!!

Yep.

Viewers will need to suspend their disbelief because Peter Bradford and Ben Stokes recognize Eve, even though she bears no resemblance to Danielle Roget, the woman they would actually have known. Maybe they just recognize her evil soul.

The jailer refers to "Gloria Winters" when he recaps the story of how Vicki was hanged in 1795.

The jailer takes Eve to see Peter, who insists there is nothing more between them. He observes with irony, You actually killed a man (Philippe Cordier), and you’re getting away with it, and I’m about to hanged for a murder I didn’t commit! She begs him to let her help him escape, even though she knows it means she won’t return to 1968. He isn’t interested until he hears the hangman practicing with the trapdoor on the scaffold. Then he lets her persuade him and even agrees to join her. The town clock has begun striking while they’ve talked. After Eve leaves, poor Peter covers his ears against the sound that brings his death closer.

Not only has Joshua kept his promise to Barnabas and freed Ben, he’s made him a trusted confidant. He tells Ben that he has rewritten the Collins family history: I have copied the book out in my own hand, but so that future generations will be able to take pride in the family, I have made certain changes: My descendants will not know the truth about the vile and pitiful thing Barnabas has become, or about Naomi’s suicide, or about poor Millicent’s unfortunate association with that scoundrel Forbes [which still makes him mad]. Joshua wants Ben to burn the book that Vicki brought back with her. But Eve gets the book away from Ben.

Meanwhile, Peter changes his mind and decides not to escape with Eve. He watches in astonishment as she fades away, her six hours in 1795 having expired.

I love NIGHTIECON ’68! DS Wiki has a few frame grabs. Eve and Angelique teaming up would have given Nicholas a run for his money.

Angelique is extremely annoyed to learn that Barnabas is beyond her reach. [Why she can’t commute to Windcliff is beyond me, given her alleged powers, but maybe Jonathan just wanted a little time off.]

In almost every DS story line, there comes a moment when the various plot lines start to converge and make absolutely no sense. Luckily, in this case, that means this ridiculous story line will end relatively soon.

For once Jeff does something right--he kisses Vicki even more enthusiastically when he realizes that Eve is spying on them.

Strange that Willie knew nothing about Angelique, let alone that she's the current vampire. Julia quickly fills him in, then they set off to find Barnabas.

Nicholas comes home very late after his date with Maggie--but I'm sure he didn't compromise her in any way. He finds Adam collapsed on the floor, apparently near death, and realizes that Julia was completely right.

Willie and Julia haven't found Barnabas. Tentatively, Willie reminds Julia that after Barn staked Tom Jennings, she was as good as new. Julia realizes that Angelique's coffin must be at the House by the Sea, so she sets off, a stake in one hand and her medical bag in the other.

Nicholas is even angrier when he sees that Angelique has swiped his magic mirror. Julia practically bursts in to save Adam. Nicholas tries to pretend he doesn't know anything about Angelique, but Julia says, I have no need to examine Adam. I’m familiar with what is wrong with him, and I have the treatment--whereupon she produces the stake. Nicholas laughingly pretends not to know anything about Angelique, but allows Julia to give Adam some stimulant injections, since he doesn’t have facilities for a transfusion. But while she’s giving Adam the injections, she points out acidly, Just because I’m doing this doesn’t mean I’ve forgotten the most effective cure for this condition.

Just as Adam begins to revive, so does Barnabas. Luckily Willie hears his faint calls for help.

Julia finishes working on Adam but acknowledges that this time Nicholas has defeated her. Nonetheless, she leaves the stake for Nicholas. A memento of your visit, he jokes, but she tells him, You had better use it if you want Adam to live.

When Willie gets Barnabas back to the Old House, he wants to take him straight upstairs. (We never do see the living Barnabas’s bedroom in the twentieth century; perhaps it’s the same one he died in long ago. But more likely it is the one his father used.) But Barnabas says he’ll sit in the drawing room and begs Willie to close the curtains. Willie tells Barnabas that Julia is at Nicholas Blair’s house. Barnabas exclaims guiltily, Angelique! Julia knows about Angelique? [Actually, he shouldn’t be able to name her, but then we’d be deprived of the ensuing fun!] Yes, yes I do, Barnabas, Julia answers as she walks in, sounding very much like a wife, just as Barnabas looks very much like a philandering husband caught in the act. She adds gently, But there will be no recriminations. You're alive. The best thing now will be to get you to Windcliff. You’ll be out of Angelique’s reach there. He protests, then moans, Why is the day so long? Julia orders Willie to go to Collinwood, making sure no one sees him, and use the phone in her room to call Windcliff and tell them to send an ambulance. Willie rushes out. She tells Barnabas, I will help you stay alive. She won’t find you there. If you stay here, Angelique will kill you.

Nicholas watches as Adam revives and decides he's had enough of Angelique's shenanigans. Carrying the stake and a mallet, Nicholas goes downstairs to Angelique’s coffin room. He places his hands on the coffin, but pauses before he opens it. You will feel no suffering, no pain, he says with hypocritical comfort (and even though the writers have faithfully followed Bram Stoker’s lead in that every vampire at Collinwood puts up quite a fuss when staked). You will cease to exist without ever knowing it. He opens the coffin….

I always liked when Barn ruminated about how his own vampiric powers affected his victims. I also very much like your image of the "Barnabas part" as a kind of coat. Very cool.

Good point, Josette. But that doesn't seem to be what it's for. I don't remember either pre-vamp Angelique or even the overwhelmingly vain Nicholas using it to check their appearance.
