Current Talk '05 I / The "Gak" Factor Of Roger Davis
« on: March 16, 2005, 08:39:08 PM »
I've noticed that on many of the boards I'm on, a lot of ppl just don't like Roger Davis. Even on this one there doesn't seem to be a soul on his side. Now, come on, I'm a Jeff basher, myself. In fact, I think I should be president of the anti-jeff club. But is there anyone here who does like him? And what about those who don't? Why don't you like him? I've heard various explanations. Some say he's straight out a jerk, while others say he's kind of nice. But I've never met him in person. So, let's hear your explanations! :)

I, myself, hate Jeff Clark b/c he
killed Willie in "HODS"
Other than that, Jeff Clark was flat out annoying. Especially all the hair touching and the orgasmic expressions. But the latter makes for GREAT SPLICING!!! :D ~DJ

Another, albiet minor red herring:  Willie plants some of Josette's earrings in Maggie's purse.  When she finds them and puts them on, she seems to become possessed.  She does this for a few episodes, then nothing ever comes of it.

I always wondered about this until my husband and I discussed this at lengths. What you were seeing there was schizophrenia. The definition I found online is: {A mental disorder that causes a separation between the thought processes and the emotions. Consumers may experience confusion of reality with hallucinations and/or delusions and may become paranoid. A change in personality with bizarre behavior may occur.} While being held captive by Barnabas, Maggie was told constantly that she was Josette. Not only was she told this by Barnabas but Willie, as well. At one point, she even started to believe it. Soon, it got to the point where she either believed she was Josette or she'd die. No one wants to die. Maggie obviously clung to life in those days by a thread and would have been irrevocably traumatized if Julia hadn't numbed those memories for a while. Then when Maggie found the earrings in her purse and put them on, back came the Josette persona that was instilled in her during her stay at the old house.

I don't think this story between Maggie and Willie during the Adam storyline was just something for them to do. It made perfect sense. I guess they figured it would give the fans who wanted to see Maggie regain her memory a sense of satisfaction that she finally did. Unfortunately, she couldn't keep it, lest they'd have to get rid of either Maggie or Barnabas and perhaps even Willie. And I don't think they were willing to do that. I wouldn't. I think they're all great.

Here are the things I hate about DS:

    1.) Jeff Clark
2.) Willie and Maggie never got together
3.) Lack of character development for the so-called smaller characters.
4.) Barnabas professed his love to Angelique... why?
    5.) THEY KILLED RACHEL!
    6.) They killed Carl... :'(
          and last but not least:
    7.) I wasn't on it.

Willie's unrequited love for Maggie Evans.

He never gets it right.  She never returns his affection.  He suffers the tortures of the damned, but he never stops loving her, or trying to protect her....usually at his own peril.

I was in my early teens during the first run of the show......I frequently wanted to smack him in the head for that relationship.....but I always hoped someone would love ME that much some day.... .

**stands and applauds** That was beautiful. :') lol. ~DJ

Current Talk '05 I / Re: Is Dark Shadows Dying? Can it Be Saved?
« on: March 16, 2005, 01:24:19 AM »
Whaaat? You want to know if DS is dead? I didn't even know what Dark Shadows was in the 80's. As far as I'm concerned, perhaps it was deader then than it ever could be. I mean no offense, of course. I was a kid back then. Now it's being revived on DVD's galore and they're still not finished creating them, either! I'm a second-gen DS'er, as I've told the world by now, and I have no doubt that there will be many more generations of budding DS fans to appreciate it all the more. So, is DS dead? Heck no! It's a classic! I don't think it'll ever die in the eyes of its truly devoted. :) ~DJ

Willie: ((to Barnabas)) Yeah, you would have trouble sleeping, wouldn't you?

That was a REALLY good one. I'm sorry that I don't know the exact quote, but this was during the Adam experiment when Barn wanted to use Maggie for Eve. Thought that line packed quite a  punch. ~DJ

One of the saddest scenes for me was when they took Joe Haskell away to Wyndcliff. Can you think of any other sad scenes?

That was a happy scene for me.  :P j/k

The saddest scenes for me are any with Roger Davis in them.  >:D Especially that Jeff Clark.

Seriously, though, I've never cried with any scene in DS as much as when Sarah died. A 9 year old dying? She didn't even get the chance to live! :( And then she became a lost soul. It really just broke my heart. Especially hearing her say she didn't know where everyone was. ~DJ

Nah, b/c the gal who really loved him (mom)  was working at a candy shop in Beverly Hills at the time. lol. She  really wanted to visit NY to see John Karlen and all the others during the run of Dark Shadows, but she was so tied up with work. She'd have been awesome on DS had she chosen to be an actress, though. :)

You know, the other one I really felt sorry for, as the second poster said, was Sarah. What an emotional scene it was when she died in Barnabas' arms. I really sobbed when she died. :( That poor little girl. ~DJ

I feel the same way. I felt so bad for so many characters. But mostly for Willie Loomis. I would have loved to have seen Maggie give him a chance. Even if they didn't get together, at least he could see if they were suited for one another. ~DJ

Hey, Jackie! That was a cool interview. Then again, anything with John Karlen has to be cool... Except maybe some of the b-movies he's been in. *gag* But he's still loveable. ;) ~DJ

Ahh! Didn't notice the microwave smiley. You know, that reminds me of some cartoons they have over at joecartoon.com  . A few of them feature an animated gerbil getting blown up in a microwave. They're interactive, too! So sick, but SO fun.  >:D www.joecartoon.com   ~DJ
