Current Talk '09 II / Dark Shadows complete dvd set on Planet DVD
« on: July 10, 2009, 05:40:15 PM »
Okay, so I've been buying the Dark Shadows dvds piecemeal, and the other day I was looking for a good price on set #12. I came across a website for Planet DVD (which I'd never heard of), in which the merchant was offering the complete series - all 1225 episodes - for $199.95. Does anybody here know about this merchant? Can this offer be for real? The box set supposedly even has the "Beginnings" episodes. I'd like to get this, as long as they aren't some rubbish quality bootlegs.

Current Talk '03 II / Serendipity?
« on: October 29, 2003, 10:40:22 PM »
This may not be of great interest to anyone else, but I thought it was strange (in a good way).  So I had to share.

I seldom if ever hear reference to Dark Shadows outside of here on the boards or on the SciFi Channel.  Imagine my surprise to hear the theme song from our favorite show on the radio yesterday, as background music at the end of a lunchtime 80's retro show.

Then today, after listening to the same program, I'd switched over to the classical station I listen to most of the day.  They were just getting ready to go to news, and they were playing - guess what?  A classical sounding version of the theme song to DS.

Had to laugh, it put me in a great mood.  Imagine, hearing the music from Dark Shadows twice in as many days on different radio stations here in Atlanta!  Perhaps it's a good omen.  ;)

Current Talk '03 II / Pre-emption blues
« on: October 03, 2003, 02:15:42 PM »
Let me tell you, these next couple weeks are going to be rough for this Dark Shadows junkie!  Just when I was getting into the 1840 storyline, and looking forward to the return of Angelique, SciFi decides to pre-empt the show.  Oh well.

Guess I just didn't realize how addicted to our show I had become until I started freaking out Wednesday night when I came home to find The Outer Limits recorded on what I thought held that day's Dark Shadows episodes.

Thank goodness I have the tapes I started making at the beginning of the current run.  They provide some solace when I need my DS fix.  Decided to start watching the beginning of the 1897 storyline, and let me tell you I am enjoying it!  Magda and Sandor are too much fun, and I just love the interplay between all the Collins siblings early on in that story.

Was wondering how the rest of you are coping.  With DS off the air for the time being, are you just going 'cold turkey,' or are you watching DVDs or video tapes of old episodes?  (I know some of you don't follow the SciFi run).  Anyway, just wanted to know if anyone besides me was going through withdrawal.

Current Talk '03 II / Never without you, Julia!
« on: August 20, 2003, 10:24:00 PM »
The Barnabas and Julia relationship, dysfunctional though it may be, sends a pleasant chill up my spine during this storyline.  And yesterday's scene in which Barnabas refused to leave Julia behind in 1995 is truly touching.  The tenderness and concern in his voice, the way he looks at her, the way he touches her are a delight for Barnabas/Julia ¢â‚¬Ëœshippers.

It would appear that Roxanne is already forgotten, and that perhaps Barnabas has begun realize just how much he cares for the good doctor.  Perhaps he has even started to look at Julia in a more than platonic light.  Dare we hope?  I have to admit to getting a little choked up as I watched this scene.  :'(

I seem to remember some source claiming that Jonathan Frid and Grayson Hall both stated that eventually, they decided to play these characters like a couple.  Does anyone know if this is the point in the series that they made this creative decision?  Or is this just one of the many myths that seem to surround Dark Shadows???

Current Talk '03 II / Dark Shadows on DVD
« on: August 08, 2003, 03:30:22 PM »
Hey all,

I posted this in an earlier thread but I think it ended up on the other forum board MB is currently working on...

Hubby and I just joined the 21st century last weekend with our purchase of a DVD player.  Yay!

My question is this - of the six collections currently available, if you could only buy one (I ain't made of money) which one would it be?  Which is the best in terms of picture quality, extras, etc?

Any advice will be most appreciated!  :-*

Luv,

Alix (Cassandra Blair)

Current Talk '03 II / OT- Senator Collins
« on: August 01, 2003, 10:57:40 PM »
Maybe everyone else already knows this, but on "Good Morning America" today, I saw Senator Susan COLLINS (R., Maine) interviewed.

Just thought it was funny that one of Maine's senators has that particular last name.  Quite appropriate, don't you think? ;)

Have a good weekend, everyone!

Current Talk '03 I / A Serious Laugh
« on: May 27, 2003, 05:12:46 PM »
Okay, last night I finally sat down after a long holiday weekend to watch my tape of last Friday's episodes.   When I got to the end of the second of those eps, I about jumped out of my chair (not to mention my skin) when Jeb opened Paul Stoddard's coffin to find that dumbass picture of Dennis Patrick inside. [eek]

WHAT was up with THAT?  Surely even when this show first aired, they HAD to realise how utterly STUPID that looked!!!  Were they HIGH [smokn] when they filmed that?

Of course, once the shock of first seeing that scene wore off, I rewound the tape to watch again, and was that time overtaken by a fit of laughter from which I'm not sure I've yet recovered.   [lol3] [roll3]

Any other thoughts on this, which has to be one of the weirdest things ever seen on this show?

Current Talk '03 I / ...and Karen Black as Megan Todd
« on: April 24, 2003, 03:42:13 PM »
Maybe it's just me, but does the character of Megan Todd, while under Leviathan influence, remind anyone else here of Karen Black?

It isn't that Marie Wallace looks particularly like Ms. Black, 'cos I don't see the resemblance in any other character she plays on the show.  But every time Megan goes psycho while all hopped up on Leviathans, images of Karen Black (especially in Trilogy of Terror) come to mind.  ::)

Just a thought.

For those of you out there who are fans of Lara Parker a/k/a Angelique, she is appearing in an episode of Kolchak the Night Stalker today (28 March, 2003) at 12 Noon EST on the SciFi channel.  The episode is called "The Trevi Collection," and from what I hear LP plays (what else?) a witch! [witch]

Happy viewing!!!

P.S.  And no, I didn't notice that this had already been mentioned in the 'Galactica' thread earlier, sorry - my bad!  [blshy]

Current Talk '03 I / Goodbye (almost) to Magda?
« on: March 03, 2003, 06:43:33 PM »
As far as I can tell, the character of Magda Rakosi only appears in one more episode (856) after today, which I find disappointing, 'cos I've been really digging Grayson in this role.

So what do y'all suppose happened to Magda after her days (and nights) running errands for 'Meester Barnabas' ended?  Could she have gone back to the gypsies?  She's in deep sh** with them right now, isn't she?  Did she help Mrs. Fillmore to raise Quentin's daughter Lenore?  Or did she wander off to Pennsylvania, where she settled down with a nice country doctor by the name of Hoffman?  ::)

Testing. 1, 2, 3... / Help!  I screwed up a posting!
« on: February 03, 2003, 05:59:53 PM »
I don't know how I managed to do this, but I created a new thread entitled "Menacing Minerva," and somehow managed to post it TWICE!

Can somebody official (MB, Midnite, Dom) please delete one of them?  Preferably the one that doesn't warn about the possibility of this topic containing spoilers.  Thank you, thank you!

I'm so embarassed!!! :-[

I have a question regarding the recent haunting of Judith Collins Trask.  It appeared to me that Judith was really being haunted and posessed by Minerva's vengeful spirit before Rev. Trask and Evan Hanley conjured up the 'black ghost' of Minerva to gaslight Judith.

So what's the deal with Minerva's 'real' spirit?  Did she just decide to leave Judith alone, was she satisfied that her successor in the Reverend's bed (ewwww!) was driven insane, and had to be institutionalized?

This is my second time viewing 1897, and I just can't remember if the story ever returns to any further visitations by Minerva.

Current Talk '02 II / Where DS and Buffy fandom intersect
« on: December 13, 2002, 07:40:23 PM »
Okay, so I was really missing Dark Shadows, and couldn't get to sleep last night.  I lay awake recasting DS with characters from another of my favorite shows, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, of which I think some here are also fans.

It's kind of weird, because there are a few parallels between the shows - reluctant vampires,  a Frankenstein type character named Adam; BtVS even has a (minor) character named Quentin.

Maybe this is kinda lame, and maybe someone has already thought of this, but here is what I came up with:

Buffy - Maggie Evans/Josette Dupres/Rachel Drummond
Angel - Barnabas Collins
Spike - Quentin Collins
Drusilla - Eve/Crazy Jenny
Xander - Jeremiah Collins/Burke Devlin (?)
Jenny Calendar - Dr. Julia Hoffman/Countess Dupres
Rupert Giles - Prof. Stokes/Joshua Collins/Edward
Ethan Raine - Roger Collins/Rev. Trask
Darla - Angelique
Willow - Victoria Winters
Cordelia - Amanda Harris
Anya - Carolyn Stoddard/Millicent Collins
Joyce - Liz Stoddard/Naomi Collins/Judith Collins
Glory - Laura Murdoch Stockbridge Collins
Dawn - Sarah Collins/Amy Jennings
Quentin Travers - Andre Dupres/Sam Evans
Oz - Willie Loomis/Carl Collins
Riley Finn - Joe Haskell
Adam - Adam
Parker Abrams - Tom/Chris Jennings
Amy (rat girl) - Beth Chavez

Let me know what you think.  Could not for the life of me come up with who (from Buffy) would play Ben Stokes - suggestions?

Current Talk '02 II / A little question
« on: November 26, 2002, 01:48:19 AM »
I'm working on my first effort at DS fanfic, and have a little question. Is the name of Maine's pre-eminent psychiatric hospital spelled:

Windcliff;

Windcliffe;

Wyndcliff;

Wyndcliffe;

Wyncliff; or

Wyncliffe?

I've seen lots of different versions in other's fanfics and/or postings about the show, but wanted to know how it was 'officially' spelled.  Can anyone help me out?
Thanks!  :)
