Calendar Events / Announcements '18 / My Dark Shadows Art Project
« on: April 03, 2018, 08:38:35 PM »
I thought it would be fun to paint these wooden peg people as Dark Shadows characters. A few years ago, some toy company tried to start a line of DS action figures, but they only released Barnabas, Angelique, and the werewolf. I always wished they would have released more. Too bad because DS had so many great characters. I'm currently amazed at the popularity of those Funko Pop figures based on TV and movie characters, and the simplicity of them, so that was my inspiration for turning these basic wooden peg dolls into DS people. Hope you like them!

Instead of Collinwood in an episode? Is it a rumor, myth, fact?
If true, what is the episode number. I've got to see it!
I've heard about this in the past but I've never seen it.
I think the last time I read about it was in Joan Bennett's biography.

I kept checking Entertainment Earth's website periodically to see if the DS Action Figures were available, and now they are showing up as cancelled.
Does anybody here really care anymore??
I had mixed feelings about them. I thought the Barnabas and Quentin figures were good likenesses, but not crazy about the Angelique one. I liked the cloth outfits but thought the plastic they used look cheap.
Not worth $20 each, but the Barnabas one sold out quickly and has sold for much more $$$ on ebay.
I liked the idea of a Collinwood playset.
Surprisingly, there are a lot more disappointed MEGO fans over at the Mego Museum message board than there are here. Here's the link to a 5-page thread:

Current Talk '12 II / Anthony George (Burke Devlin) Interview
« on: November 29, 2012, 02:44:36 AM »
I saw this article on ebay. Back in the 1990s, Anthony George was interviewed by some fanzine called, TV Collector.
Someone is selling it on ebay and they included a partial scan of the article in their listing.
I have never read Anthony George talking about his time on DS, so this is new information for me.
I laughed at how he says he kept ignoring requests from the DS fest.
Sorry its not the whole article, but there is a lot of good stuff to read.

Current Talk '12 I / Question about Teasers
« on: February 27, 2012, 02:57:33 AM »
At the end of each episode there would be a cliffhanger.
The next day, they would usually repeat the ending at the beginning of the show as a teaser before the credits.
Were these "teasers" newly filmed a second time-- or were they merely reruns (i.e. footage taken from the previous episode)??.

Current Talk '12 I / Grayson tattoo on forearm??? Episode 981 PT
« on: February 22, 2012, 02:26:18 AM »
I haven't watched DS in a while so I thought I'd start again with episode 981 (the beginning of Parallel Time).
Anyway, while watching the episode, I noticed that Grayson had a reddish mark on her right forearm. They never showed it close up, but I kept catching fleeting glimpses of it. What is it? A tattoo? A birthmark? I'm thinking it might have been leftover from the Leviathan storyline, but I can't remember? Does anyone know?

Current Talk '12 I / Discuss Lara Parker Rehearsal Footage (DVD Volume 26)
« on: February 17, 2012, 06:30:51 AM »
I finally purchased the DS DVD Volume 26, and I was blown away by the special features.

I thought the Lara Parker Dress Rehearsal footage was fascinating.
Has anyone ever commented on this before. I did a search, but couldn't come up with anything.

Anyway, for those that haven't seen it, the rehearsal was from the episode in parallel time where Lara plays dual roles: Angelique and Alexis, where they switch places in the mausoleum. It was a very complicated scene to set up because Lara was playing opposite herself and they had to shoot it 2 times: once with Lara as Alexia, and once with Lara as Angelique, then they would superimpose or merge the two together.
Lara was playing her scene as Alexis first, and she had to pause every few moments to give Angelique time to say her lines, and you could see Lara getting frustrated with the teleprompter moving to fast. Well, she actually tells the director that the prompter is moving 3 times faster than she would say her lines.
Then, later she flubs her lines, and after they yell, cut! you can see her mouth the words, "I messed it up."
Next, the crew helps her climb into her coffin, and she is ready to go with the scene, but then they

announce over the loudspeaker to break for lunch, and you can see her throw her hands up in the air.
The footage last about 11 minutes.
I would like to know where this footage came from, and if there is more rehearsal footage out there.

Calendar Events / Announcements '11 I / Lara Parker's teaching career
« on: January 31, 2011, 03:07:32 PM »
When I attended the last Dark Shadows convention, Lara had mentioned that she was teaching English classes at college. Imagine having Lara as your English teacher!

Anyway, I recently came across this site where students can rate their teachers and leave comments, and I remembered Lara, so I entered her name in the search engine (not her stage name, but her real name) and guess who's name came up! I was amused to read what her students thought about. I assume her students are primarily young kids (19 or 20 year-olds)  and they probably have no idea of their teacher's alter ego--unless she told them (which I doubt).

She mostly got good reviews. Nobody said anything nasty, but there are a few amusing comments in the mix. I would like to post the link if I can, but I don't want to break any rules, so I thought I'd better ask first.

Okay, so vampires are really hot right now--have been for at least a year or two with Twilight and The Vampire Diaries. Who knows how long this craze will last?
This is the perfect time for the new Dark Shadows movie, but as far as I know there is no premiere date as it is only in pre-production. Have they started filming yet? I haven't heard of any other actors cast besides Johnny Depp. So it looks like the movie won't come out until 2011 or maybe 2012.
I'm interested in reading what everyone's thoughts are on the new Dark Shadows movie.
Here are mine:
I'm worried the vampire craze will die down by the time the movie premieres.
I'm wondering if a lot of young moviegoers will think it is a Twilight-rip-off (even though we all know DS came first)..
Will the movie be aimed at young viewers or older audiences? The reason why I say this is because Johnny Depp isn't exactly a young Robert Pattison-type. Also, the original DS audience-the ones who used to run home from school--must be in their late fifties/early sixties now.
Do you think the movie will become as big as Twilight?
The best thing is that Tim Burton will direct or produce it (not sure) so it will have a big budget and look fabulous.

Calendar Events / Announcements '08 II / Saturday's Fest Highlight
« on: July 20, 2008, 04:14:11 AM »
I just got home from today's fest. The highlight of the show was how they introduced Jonathan Frid. There was a black curtain onstage. They had a candleabra on stage. John Karlen came out in character as Willie and was talking out loud to himself  about getting rich. He pulled back the curtain to reveal...a chained coffin!!! He took of the chains and opened the lid and guess who's hand extended from within and choked Willie? Yes, it was Barnabas himself--Jonathan Frid!!!

I need help, please! Does anyone know where I can find online a copy of this religious pamphlet that was passed out by the Southern Baptist church back in the 60s that said DS promoted satanism. I thought I read it somewhere online before. I want to show my friends. They don't believe me.

Calendar Events / Announcements '05 I / New Joan Bennett Autobiography
« on: January 21, 2005, 03:38:01 AM »
I did a search, but Couldn't find any topics about this, so thought I'd post because some people might not know about it.  I saw it at Barnes and Noble. It focuses on Joan and sister Constance.  I read some chapters on the last years of her life. Was surprised to find out that one-time controversial talk show host/big mouth Morton Downey Jr. was Joan's nephew. It looks very interesting and includes candid and revealing moments like when, where, and how she died. She really did enjoy working on Dark Shadows, but is quoted as saying that one of the actors "thinks he's Henry Fonda", but he can't act. Alexandra Moltke, Nancy Barrett, KLS, and Marie Wallace provide memories. She also had falling out with one of her daughters. She did not enjoy working on "Suspiria", but did it to please hubby and free trip to Italy.
