Current Talk '05 II / THE DICKENS WITH DARK SHADOWS
« on: July 15, 2005, 08:14:44 PM »
There has been some comment that "Jane Eyre" influenced DS storylines. Today's photo (7-15-05) on the Forum's homepage  made me wonder if "Agnes Grey" by Anne Bronte influenced the early episodes. It's the story of a young woman who wants to go out in the world and earn a living for herself as well as help her poor family. She takes a position with a rich family as governess, only to find the children are horribly behaved and almost impossible to teach. >:D This reminded me of Vicky's relationship with David. I wonder if the writers were influenced by "Agnes Grey" as well as "Jane Eyre". [book2]

Today (June 7th) Roger Davis guest-stars on "Alias Smith and Jones" on the Encore/Western channel at 5:00 EST. I don't think there are alot of RD fans here but this is really a good episode of AS&J and Roger is excellent in the role of a villain. 8)

Current Talk '03 II / G is for Gabriel
« on: December 01, 2003, 04:26:08 PM »
I love the way the writers could pack so much into half an hour. Daphne is a little sharper than Vicky. She's "too smart for her own good".  I'm a sucker for the governess in peril stuff. I've missed something though. Why is Gabriel pretending  to be unable to walk?[confused_ani]

Current Talk '03 II / Cliffhanger
« on: October 01, 2003, 03:48:11 PM »
Ds is being pre-empted for about 2 weeks and they've left us with a typical soap opera cliffhanger (and DS was usually so untypical for a soap). It's my first time watching these eps. With Samantha screaming at Q "Your not his father!" and boldly asking Q for her freedom--it's almost something you would see in a sixties soap (or one today). 8)

Current Talk '03 II / The best of KLS

I like "early Maggie", when she has kind of a chip on her shoulder. She's an ordinary working girl in contrast to the rich Collins family. Later on, I think she was very good in the scenes where she escapes from her cell in the Old House basement (with the help of Sarah's ghost) to the secret passageway with Barnabas pursuing her.  8)

Well everyone should be glad that the fest wasn't held this week, what with the power outage. It would have ruined everything. I hope everything is back to normal by the end of the month for you festgoers. 8)

TCM is showing a marathon of Katharine Hepburn movies tonight. "Little Women" will be shown at 1 AM CST. Joan Bennett (Amy) stars along with Hepburn (Jo).  Bennett is very good in this and if you haven't already seen it you might want to check it out. [bow]

Calendar Events / Announcements '03 I / OT--Katherine Hepburn
« on: June 30, 2003, 01:04:21 AM »
OT, but I will tie it to DS--she starred in "Little Women" with Joan Bennett. "The Lion in Winter" is the best movie I have ever seen.  Most of the comments in her obits on TV today do not mention this movie. She was an original and certainly lived a full life.

Current Talk '03 I / PT Characters
« on: June 16, 2003, 02:08:22 PM »
I'm seeing these eps for the first time. Maggie is very Vicky-like with her long dark hair. I would have liked to see AM in this part--Vicky as mistress of Collinwood even if it had to be PT. Grayson Hall as Hoffman--I like her in this part. She does not rely on  the mannerisms (grimaces) so far that I've seen. I like seeing JK as WHL though I like Willie best.

My post count has been at 180 for the 3 or 4 times I've posted.  Have the counts been frozen or something? Not a problem or anything, just wondering. ???
