Current Talk '04 I / Humor on Dark Shadows
« on: February 27, 2004, 04:41:21 PM »
This came up on another thread, but I was thinking about humor on Dark Shadows (not the blooper kind, but situations or dialog that struck me as funny)  The other day I saw on DVD the scene where poor Willie has been gunned down outside Maggie's door and is believed to be the kidnapper.  Barnabas has a scene with Julia where he is really behaving badly and is very put out with Willie for lingering on even after being plugged by several bullets.  He makes some sort of comment about how he expects any minute to hear that Willie is sitting up and writing his memoirs.  That line and the way Frid delivers it always cracks me up.  Then there is another Frid moment when he's out at Widows Hill with Julia when Vicki comes along.  Barn wants Julia to leave so he can be alone with Vicki, Julia is dragging her feet, and Frid says - I think you'd better go inside before you catch a cold - you know how concerned I am about your health.  The way he says the part about being concerned about her health and the look on his face is another moment that makes me laugh.  Can anyone think of any other moments or dialog like this  that struck them as funny?

Current Talk '03 II / That Gerard is sooo Evil!
« on: September 05, 2003, 06:21:33 PM »
How evil is he?  Even the inane whinings of Hallie Stokes can't drive him out of the house.  I'd have took to the hills long ago.  Heck, if I was Maggie I'd welcome the attentions of the vampire if it would get me out of having to deal with her.  No wonder Roger is away somewhere.

Calendar Events / Announcements '02 I / Joan Bennett Films
« on: May 31, 2002, 04:30:23 PM »
I've always enjoyed Joan Bennett on Dark Shadows, but other than Father of the Bride, I've never seen any of her other film roles (except, of course, the Dark Shadows movie)  I just watched videos of two of her starring roles under the direction of Fritz Lang - Scarlett Street and Secret Beyond the Door.  Joan more than holds her own in both films opposite Edward G. Robinson and Michael Redgrave, both very respected actors.  Joan is not what I'd call a very showy actress, she uses subtle changes in her voice and facial expression to convey her characters mood.  She is really an extremely attractive woman and if she'd had the right material I think she could have had a bigger film reputation than she has.  Both of these films suffer from scripts that grow increasingly bizzare.  As a side note, in Secret Beyond the Door, Joan marries a mysterious character who fails to tell her he has a son - a rather troubled, strange boy named David!
