Current Talk '24 I / If Laura Stayed
« on: December 17, 2019, 04:21:43 PM »
Had Diana Millay decided to stay on DS, would they have done to Laura what they did to Barnabas by making her much less a villain and more likeable?

When Dr. Guthrie confronts her about being one of the undead, he says he can help her if she wishes.  I was wondering if there would be a Julia like storyline with Guthrie trying to cure Laura and then the show going back in time to her past to how she originally came to be a Phoenix.

Calendar Events / Announcements '24 I / James Hall Mention in New Book
« on: December 01, 2019, 05:09:53 PM »
James Hall is mentioned a few times in the book "The Downtown Pop Underground" by Kembrew McLeod about the start of American Bohemia in the 60's & 70's.  He's mentioned a few times as being part of a small actors group in the East Village.  Although DS isn't mentioned.  His name is on a flyer for "Fire Escape Theater" in "Suicode Notations".  In addition to playing a character (a sleepwalking poet), he is also the director.  It was on 87 Christopher Street 10/22/72.

Current Talk '24 I / Dr. Guthrie's Run of the Place
« on: November 26, 2019, 03:41:28 PM »
Carolyn and Vicky both mentioned that Dr. Guthrie had the run of the entire house while he was there.
He mentioned that he found some things they were better off not knowing.

I know this was not planned at all at the time, but could he have found the parallel time room or Quentin's staircase or even 1897 Quentin's telephone and though it best not to inform them any of this?

Calendar Events / Announcements '24 I / 1897 Concordance Volume 2
« on: November 07, 2019, 03:13:35 PM »
Should I take it this will never be published?

There was a time in the mid 90's it was going to be made available at one of the conventions and then was held back.

At least I have the original full 1897 Concordance.

Current Talk '24 I / The Beginning of 1795
« on: June 27, 2019, 11:14:18 PM »
The first time I watched DS, I missed the episode with the seance, so when I saw DS in 1795 it was really jarring.  Despite the constant repetition of the opening voiceover, I was still confused for a while, as I'm sure others who missed the seance episode were too.  They needed to clarify the Vicky/Phyllis connection and the situation at the seance.

At first I thought Vicky had taken over the body of Phyllis Wick, while the audience sees Vicky, the characters see Phyllis.  Then when Vicky talks with Jeremiah, it appears that Burke has also traveled back in time and taken over Jeremiah's body without realizing it.  This is when Jeremiah tells Vicky he feels as though he knows her somehow.

It looked there was going to be a storyline with a Vicky/Burke/Jeremiah twist but then that suddenly was dropped.

The Vicky/Phyllis connection was spoiled by a fanzine at the time so I finally understood it, but just missing that one episode was so confusing!

Current Talk '18 / The month prior to 1795
« on: June 20, 2018, 10:52:38 PM »
Have any of you noticed that after Burke Devlin's last episode, for the next month or so, there are mainly women on the show?  Except for Barnabas of course, and brief appearances of Roger & Joe, and much later Tony Peterson, all the male characters have been written off?

It's like they had no idea where to take the storyline and let the show drift.  They are lucky the ratings still held off by the start of 1795.

Current Talk '17 II / Episode 465
« on: September 29, 2017, 11:06:34 PM »
This episode ends with Barnabas and Vicky (under his control) driving to the mausoleum and she sees Peter on the road and then the car crashes.  I never noticed before, but the footage of Peter on the road is an actual filmed outside shot- not taped in the studio.

Interesting that at this point they still were doing this when the last exterior shot was pre-1795.

Current Talk '17 I / Future Characters during episode 1 (SPOILERS!!!)
« on: April 21, 2017, 05:54:02 PM »
As Victoria Winters arrives at Collinwood, characters we have not yet met are going about their lives/unlives.
It's interesting to think where they are at this point:

Mrs. Sarah Johnson- Bill Malloy's housekeeper
George Patterson- campaigning for the position of Sheriff
Laura Collins- living in Phoenix as a normal woman
Dr. Guthrie- teaching at Dartmouth
Paul Stoddard- living it up all over the world
Jason McGuire/Willie Loomis- scheming in different parts of the world
Barnabas Collins- chained in his coffin
Dr. Dave Woodard- taking care of local patients
Dr. Julia Hoffman- tending to her patients at Wyndcliffe
Sarah Collins- spirit at rest
Tony Peterson- practicing law in Collinsport
Angelique/Nicholas Blair- in hell, probably oblivious to the current goings on
Peter Bradford- long dead and forgotten
Jeff Clark- going about his life
Dr. Eric Lang- taking care of patients and studying the possibility of reanimating life
Adam- ordinary man going about his life
Eve- ordinary woman going about her life (twin sister to Megan Todd maybe??)
Tom Jennings- local handyman taking care of his sister Amy
Chris Jennings- living in the mountains, being a werewolf when the moon rises
Quentin Collins- body and spirit trapped in a sealed up room in the west wing
Beth Chavez- spirit trapped with Quentin in a sealed up room in the west wing
Ned Stuart/Sabrina Stuart- living out west with Ned caring for an in shock Sabrina
Megan & Phillip Todd- possibly just married and living quietly in another town.
Skylar Rumson- tycoon running his empire
Davenport- officer/deputy in the Collinsport Police
Bruno- living off other people
Room in the east room constantly changing unnoticed to a parallel universe
Roxanne Drew & Sebastian Shaw- traveling from town to town
Hallie Stokes- living with her parents in another city

Gerard Stiles & Daphne Harridge- spirits "sleeping" in a deserted room in the west wing

Current Talk '17 I / Late 1970s DS Comeback?
« on: February 05, 2017, 06:12:24 PM »
In an old World of Dark Shadows from the 70s, there was an article about DS returning with Jonathan Frid set to return as Barnabas in a new series under the title "Bitter Hill".  Does anyone remember this?  It was never mentioned again anywhere.

I found this on Amazon, it's a review of the first 210 episodes.
Dark Shadows Episode Guide Volume 1 by Hanley Jennings Peterson

http://www.amazon.com/Dark-Shadows-Episode-Guide-1/dp/132986798X/ref=sr_1_3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1464966915&sr=1-3&keywords=dark+shadows+episodes

From Amazon:  The daytime Gothic drama Dark Shadows was truly unique and well deserving of its cult status. This unofficial guide provides episode recaps, as well as commentary, on the questionable, bizarre or downright silly things that characters say and do that just can't be ignored. This volume covers the first 210 episodes that includes an ex-con out for vengeance, a car accident, a murder mystery, a supernatural creature and a blackmail scheme. So, pour a drink (or two) and delve into the uniquely peculiar world of Collinsport, Maine.

Seems Dan Curtis by late August 1967 was planning Barnabas to be killed off by the end of 1967.
