Current Talk '08 II / Barnabas & Jason
« on: October 13, 2008, 06:12:07 PM »
I saw the scene where Jason meets Barnabas for the first time and when he introduces himself, Barnabas looks like he doesn't want to speak to him.  I was wondering if Barnabas knew all about the Liz/Jason connection from Willie (who would have told him why he was living at Collinwood as well as those living there).

Current Talk '08 II / 1967 Laura Story
« on: October 11, 2008, 05:42:56 PM »
I have finished watching Collector's Series 5 and have been enjoying the Laura story more this time then the first time I saw it on the Sci Fi Channel.  Others have commented that it was actually DS at it's very best and while I don't entirely agree with that, this is actually a unique time in DS:

- The focus is on characters independent of the rest of the series who aren't referred to much afterwards.
- Carolyn is the mistress of the house, changing the dynamic of the setting
- The writers are using every character (except Maggie, who it's odd to see just on the sidelines this time) organically in the plot.
- All the characters are aware something is wrong and know/suspect that one character is the center of it.
- There is a "team-up" feel to the story as everyone wants to get the bad guy.
- A live outdoor scene showing a cactus!
- The only morgue scene on the show

Current Talk '08 II / John Lasell
« on: October 08, 2008, 03:06:40 PM »
Has there ever been an interview with John Lasell (Dr. Guthrie)?  He played a significant part in the 1967 Laura story and it's too bad his role was forgotten for so many years because he appeared only in pre-Barnabas episodes.

I see by the Internet Movie Database he is still alive (at 80) and has made many television appearances.

Current Talk '08 II / Elizabeth & Rogers Mother
« on: October 05, 2008, 02:12:28 PM »
There has never been a lot discussed about Jamison's wife.  The writers named almost all the Collins generations after the 1795 era but never Liz and Rogers own mother.  She was mentioned twice by Elizabeth- when she shows Vicky an heirloom her mother gave her prior to marrying Paul and when she finds a letter her mother wrote to Jamison giving her time of birth.

Probably because she lived at Collinwood during "quiet supernatural" years there isn't much to write about in that regard but has anyone thought of who she was?  Probably an outsider to Collinsport or a war bride of Jamisons?

She apparently died after Liz married Paul and obviously before 1966.

Current Talk '08 II / Moving Barnabas' coffin around in 1897
« on: September 17, 2008, 05:00:06 PM »
At the beginning of 1897, an episode has Barnabas moving his coffin from the secret room of the mausoleum to the basement of the Old House.

A couple of weeks later it is returned to the Secret Room, as if the writer felt it should be there as it originally was, and for Barnabas to leave 1897.

A few episodes after that the coffin is moved back into the Old House.

I was wondering who wrote these episodes, one writer seems to have been determined to not have the coffin in the Secret Room for some reason.  They could have just not had any more scenes in there for the remainder of 1897.

Current Talk '08 II / Barnabas & The Caretaker
« on: September 09, 2008, 03:34:25 PM »
I love the scene when Barnabas meets the caretaker in the cemetary while looking for David.

Barnabas almost gives himself away there when the caretaker keeps going on about the dead ,and not listening to what Barnabas is saying.  It's like a comedy routine.

Current Talk '08 II / Lost 1968 episode

What was supposed to happen on this episode that the writers had to re-write?

The Boys in the Band finally comes to DVD.

I understand some of the actors in the movie auditioned for DS, not sure if it was for Morgan Collins.

Jonathan Frid appeared on The Doctors in 1966 prior to DS, playing the role of Dr. Neal Wade.

Has anyone ever seen any of these episodes?

Current Talk '08 II / Vampire Angelique's Reflection
« on: July 05, 2008, 04:47:20 PM »
How is it that Angelique can see herself in the mirror when other vampires couldn't?  Is it because the mirror is Nicholas' that he made it so?

Current Talk '08 I / Using footage of Joan Bennetts films on DS
« on: May 23, 2008, 05:45:25 PM »
I am not sure if I posted this here or on another board, so if this is a repeat I apologize.

I got the idea from an episode of Falcon Crest where they used a scene of a film Jane Wyman made in the 40's (The Blue Veil) to explain how her characters husband arranged for the doctor to have the baby secretly adopted in Europe while she thought the baby died soon after she delivered.

I was thinking something like this could have been used as a flashback to Vicki's birth involving Liz, Paul, & her parents (not using the sound of the movie but a voiceover explaining the events).  Is there any film JB starred in that could correspond to some scenario involving Vicky's birth and the placing of her at the foudling home?

Current Talk '08 I / Other Cast Changes in 1967 NABET Strike
« on: March 31, 2008, 01:02:49 AM »
I was thinking about the actors returning to DS during the 1967 NABET strike after Dan Curtis asked them to, as he was afraid the show would be canceled if they couldn't produce more episodes after a certain time.

We know Robert Gerringer (Dr. Woodard) & Daniel Keyes (the caretaker) had their roles recast.  What if one or two other cast members also decided not to cross the picket line.  I refer to main cast members like  Nancy Barrett, Louis Edmunds, etc..

DC would never fire Jonathan Frid as he was the star and the center of the show and I doubt he would fire Joan Bennett.  Would he have done the recasting to other characters if that actor/actress didn't cross the picket line?

Current Talk '07 II / Fan memories of Peter & Vicky's Fate (SPOILERS)
« on: November 30, 2007, 07:04:15 PM »
When I started in DS fandom in the early 80's, prior to DS on the New Jersey Network and being syndicated up thru Parallel Time 1970, I always read about Peter & Vicky having a "happy ending" with Barnabas saving them from getting hung at the gallows.  I read this in most of the fanzines out there like World of Dark Shadows.

Then wihen the episode where Peters ghost reveals what happened to them, during the Leviathan story, everyone was in shock about their final fate.

I was wondering about those of you who were watching the original 1966-1971 run.  Did you forget about these couple of Leviathan episodes or not see them?    Of course the happy ending that fans thought was now known to be gone, but its as if no one remembered this prior to the NJN airings in the mid 80's.

Current Talk '07 II / Edith's Family Secret
« on: October 03, 2007, 06:11:08 PM »
SPOILER:

In 1897 it's established that Barnabas' secret being a vampire & chained in the secret room in the mausoleum was passed on the death bed of the head of the family to their heir. (Joshua-Daniel-son-Edith).

Barnabas meeting Edith on her death bed prevented her from telling Edward and the secret passed into history.  I was wondering a few things about this in regards to the original timeline:

I think from what we see of Edith in 1897 that she managed to last until Edward arrived and told the secret to him (As we saw, he got there only a few minutes after Barnabas and with no Barnabas there originally, Edith was still coherent at that point).

What do you think of these scenario's that may have happened?:
- Edward wrote the secret off as nonsense and never mentioned it again.
- Edward went to the mausoleum to verify what Edith said and was too scared to ever mention it ever again to anyone.
- Edward believed what Edith said and did passed it to Jamison, who obviously didn't believe it as he didn't pass it to his wife or Elizabeth

Also..after the events of 1840, is it possible that in the revised 1897, that a time travelling Barnabas greeted a 90 plus Daphne or Letiticia on her deathbed instead of Edith?
