Current Talk '02 II / The DS Announcer
« on: July 31, 2002, 04:33:00 PM »
Does anyone know why he stopped doing the voiceovers for actor replacements or the end credit "DS is a Dan Curtis production"?

When Dr. Woodard was replaced with Peter Turgeon...it was a different announcer saying it and after that they used the DS cast members.

Did they have another announcer doing the commercial breaks?

From the Sci Fi Cahnnel Website:

Dark Shadows Lurks Again?

Dark Shadows creator Dan Curtis confirmed that he is developing a new big- screen version of his gothic soap opera, according to TV Guide Online. "We are working on making that happen," Curtis told the site. "We have people who are interested in providing financing, and we're having lots of conversations."

Curtis added, "Will it happen? I can't say, but it's a possibility. Do you want to hear something funny? We'd heard for ages that Johnny Depp always wanted to play Barnabas Collins, so we checked into it, and lo and behold, depending on the script, it is something that he'd like to do." He continued, "I'd also very much like to work with [screenwriter] Steven de Souza, and we've had a lot of fun talking about it. Dark Shadows has an undying audience. The show never goes away. It's running on SCI FI Channel, and 40 episodes were recently put out on a four-disc DVD set. I understand they sold out within days and [Mpi Media Group] had to go back for a second printing. Never in my life did I imagine that the show would still be around."

Current Talk '02 I / Elizabeth's Standing in Town
« on: May 20, 2002, 08:29:14 PM »
I see her life has gotten back to normal after 19 years.  She is driving and attending town functions.  This is the way I like to see Liz as..a woman in control and assertive of things.

Unfortunately, this will not last for very long.....

She will be in a music store in Manhattan on East 12th Street between 3rd and 4th Avenue from 3 to 5 pm today (Saturday).  Unfortunately I have forgotten the name of the store.  She really likes to see DS fans and will sign any of the KLS books, or any book with her picture in it.

Current Talk '02 I / Andre's Departure
« on: March 30, 2002, 06:42:38 PM »
Does anyone know why David Ford left so suddenly at this point that Andre was sent, off camera, to New York for good?  I know he will return in the present time as Sam Evans again.

When I first watched these episodes in the mid 80's, I thought that David Ford had left DS for good (like Anthony George did) and had to be abruptly written out.

Current Talk '02 I / Sarahs Warning to David
« on: March 15, 2002, 05:34:41 PM »
Who was she referring to in the second to last episode prior to 1795 when she talls David that "the dead are angry and have come back and there's someone in this house they want to destroy"?

Was this a warning about the upcoming appearance of Angelique in town to destroy Barnabas?  They never really resolved this.

Current Talk '02 I / In Defense of Vicky
« on: March 06, 2002, 11:43:07 PM »
Lets not knock her being "dumb" at stating that people she meets in 1795 resembles present day characters.

Lets take them one by one:

Barnabas- She meet him first in 1795, so naturaly she would think he knows her.

Sarah- Vicky is still new in 1795.

Nathan Forbes- the first lookalike with a different name from a present time person.  This is a natural mistake.

Naomi Collins- Again, she is still confused, being in 1795 a short time.

Abigail Collins- Vicki just woke up and would naturally believe she was seeing Mrs. Johnson at her bedside (after thinking she dreamed what happened before), so this case of mistaken identity is not unusual at all.

Jeremiah Collins- He resembles her fiance, believed to be dead, so on first sight this is justified.

Joshua Collins- She was startled by his resemblense to Roger..but didn't say anything.

Natalie Dupres, Josette Dupre.< Andre Dupres- Well...I guess I can't defend her anymore...except for....

Ben Stokes- Well, she was almost killed by Matthew Morgan, so naturally she would be shocked.

Current Talk '02 I / A Solution to Vicky's Fate
It was one of the most disapointing things the writers did by decided to have Jeb kill Vicky in 1796, and onw of the most nonsensical...it made the murky plot even more confusing.

But the answer lies on another character unmentioned throughout all this--Phyllis Wicke. In the Return to 1796 prior to 1897, she is nowhere to be found after Vicky is re-hung (another plothole the writers left). However, one can place her in 1796 with the Jeb/Vicky/Peter scenario.

When Jeb throws Vicky off Widows' Hill, could Phyllis Wicke have suddenly appeared in Vicky's place at the rocks below? The body would have been so badly damaged, no one may have realized it wasn't Vicky. Victoria Winters was then returned to the present time...perhaps she was so confused she just ran off for a while to be alone. Though Peter would still kill Jeb and throw him over Widows' Hill and subsequently hung for doing so. Neither of them aware about the transposition of the bodies. Notice there is no ghost of Victoria Winters during the Leviatian sequence.

I think this could be a resolution as to what happened to Vicky so she could return to the present time.
Not only do they never use the V word, no one has thought to take a cross or some garlic to use against Barnabas.

Its unusual that with all the lokkalikes Vicky see among the past and presnt time characters that the writers never had her meet Tony Peterson. it would have been interesing for her to see a Trask lookalike.

BTW..does Barnabas meet Tony prior to 1795? I know he had no reaction to him when he sees him post 1795.

She could be:

c. Paul Stoddard's sister

What do you think?

Everyone now seems to have been affected by Barnabas except these two (except Mrs. Johnson but she is usually on the sidelines anyway), yet neither one can believe that Barnabas is doing anything wrong. Despite the fact that a few people have voiced their suspicions.

It's too bad 1795 causes this storyline to be forgotten. The writers never did pick up on David's "mental illness" once the show returned to 1968. It's like they knew they had backed the show into a corner and hoped 5 months time off from this plot would make the audience forget about it.

At least they did remember that Carolyn is under Barnabas' spell and that he is still cold to Julia.

Current Talk '02 I / The Original Idea for 1795

Ron Sproat mentioned in an interview back in the 80's that the original plan to tell the story of Barnabas was through books and ghosts.

Perhaps this meant that they planning to stick with the original version of events mentioned during 1966-1967, but then decided to tell it in a time travel story which condenced everything to a 5 month period.

Though if they went with the story told by books and ghosts, it would have been interesting to see the characters thorugh the years..perhaps it was a span of 10 to 15 years.

I learned on one of the DS message boards that Peter Turgeon was supposed to play the originally planned male Dr. Julian Hoffman.

Sure am glad THAT never happened.
