Current Talk '03 I / New Early Barnabas Trivia
« on: January 15, 2003, 05:09:53 PM »
In the 80's I bought a collection of synopsis' of the first year of DS.  I just realized something that I have never seen mentioned that was on them.  It is something minor really, but still worth mentioning anyway.

Apparently at the time the synopsis of the week and a half prior to the episode where Willie releases Barnabas from his coffin, the writers did not yet have a name for their future vampire.  Barnabas is referred to as "young Collins" or "the young man" when the summary refers to the part where Willie is looking at the portrait.

The lines read something like like:  "Willie is staring at the portrait of young Collins and notices the eyes glowing at him."  Another line states "Willie once again looks at the portrait of the young man and in addition to the glowing eyes, he hears a heartbeat from the portrait."

Current Talk '03 I / Joan Bennett's First TV Series
« on: January 10, 2003, 06:00:53 PM »
It was a sitcom called "Too Young to go Steady" and ran for about 4 months in 1959.  I was wondering if it could be in the public domain now and if it was, would it be possible to obtain tapes of it?  Does anyone know how to go about this?

Current Talk '02 II / Naming of Judith

Edith may have had some say in the naming as Judith sounds like the female name for Judah....Judah Zachary!

Barnes and Noble has a lot of old radio shows for sale. A couple of them have Joan Bennett as a guest on shows like Abbott & Costello and The Jack Benny Program.   She also is on Duffy's Tavern, where she is wooed by Archie the manager, its available from mail order from Metacom (at least it was 10 years ago).

I would love to see an episode of her first television series, "Too Young to go Steady."

Current Talk '02 II / The Original 1897 Timeline
« on: November 17, 2002, 06:49:42 PM »
1897 was probably a much simpler story in the original timeline.  Quentin kills Jenny, Magda finds out and places the curse on him.  Quentin becomes a werewolf and he killed Beth.  Judith and Edward discover his secret and kill him in his room with a silver bullet.  He dies on the chair and they seal up the room and state he went to Paris to live to the public.

I think that originally, the characters killed off due to Barnabas' meddling with history were also killed in the original timeline at the same time, through other circumstances.  Laura still could have driven Dirk insane and he killed Rachael, Carl, and Pansy and was in turn shot to death by Edward as he tried to kill Judith.

Current Talk '02 II / DS DVD's:  Changing Bad Story Elelment?
« on: November 07, 2002, 05:05:34 PM »
On the recently released DVD of ET, Stephen Spielberg changed a part of the movie by having the cops using walkie talkies as opposed to guns around the children, I got an idea.

Perhaps when the Leviathan story comes up to be made into a DVD, they could edit out the ghost of Peter Bradford (and his stating of Vicky's death) and instead use another ghost attempt to get revenge on Jeb?

What do you think?  It could get rid of parts of DS that fans dislike?

Current Talk '02 II / Liz's Terror Ends
« on: October 03, 2002, 01:33:34 AM »
And it took 100 episodes to do it in.  This story began as a subplot to the main plot that ended a month before.  I never saw such a minor story dragged out so much as this...it could have taken a week to this in!

Unfortunately, this is basically Liz's last hurrah on DS...she is never given a story of her own anymore.  They could have given her one during Leviathian, it appeared like it at first, but they wasted so much potential there.

Current Talk '02 II / Natalie's Fate: Was it really Altered?
« on: September 28, 2002, 10:52:24 PM »
It was never stated how Natalie Dupres died originally, with her being one of the survivors of 1795/6.

With her dying of a heart attack at the hands of Ben Stokes, her heart was obviously very weak.   Perhaps with Josette's death and all that happened, the stress resulted in doingdamage to her heart.

Perhaps in the original run, she died of a heart attack after Vicky was hung (and Phyllis Wick before that)  and Barnabas chained.   Either while still living at Collinwood or on her way to New York to meet up with Andre, her heart gave out due to all the stress she went through.

Current Talk '02 II / The Deaths of Ben Stokes
« on: September 28, 2002, 10:46:15 PM »
There are three different years stated for his death, but unlike Josette or Naomi, all of them can actaully be expained.

1.  His original year of death as stated by Prof. Stokes upon meeting Barnabas and Julia was in 1830.   He got a parcel of land and educated himself and he prospered, had a family and died peacefully.

2. In 1897, his headstone states he died in 1816.  His year of death changed becasue he had the deaths of nathan and Natalie on his conscious for the rest of his life.  While now he may not have been given his own land and prospered, he remained at Collinwood.  Though he still did marry and have a family of his own.  Joshua probably did reward him for his loyalty in some way.

3. Following the final 1796 flashback, Natalie is bit by Barnabas and under his spell.  Most likely, she never did bail out Nathan Forbes.  So, neither were ever killed by Ben Stokes.  He doesn't have any deaths on his conscious and now lives to 1840.  He still probably lived at Collinwood and without the stress of owning land he lived 10 years longer then he opriginally did.  Once again, he still married and had a family of his own and Joshua may have helped him out in someway.

Current Talk '02 II / A Theory on this Return to 1796
« on: September 26, 2002, 08:39:58 PM »
A. Warren Oddson (the artist/timeline solver)from The World of Dark Shadows  had a theory this return to 1796 was a trap set by Angelique to lure Vicky,
Peter, Ben, and Barnabas into a fantasy 1796 to do away with Vicky once and  for all.

When Barnabas has Ben torch her, Vicky and Peter were able to  escape the trap, but Barnabas had to find a way out, which was his chained  coffin.  Nathan and Natalie were a "fail safe" device in case something
went wrong.  When ben took care of that and chained Barnabas in the coffin,  both returned to where they belonged.

Thus, 1795 was never really changed.

How does this sound to you?

After not seeing Betsy Durkin for about 8 episodes, they should have used Carolyn Groves here instead.  CG is going to be seen very shortly anyway.  I wonder whey they brought Betsy Durkin back for this one episode.

It was never mentioned at all, however, Once Barnabas returns from 1897 and with Quentin's ghost never having existed, Madame Findlay (and Ezra Braitwaite) should still be alive and kicking.

Current Talk '02 II / OT: Ghost
« on: August 17, 2002, 01:49:01 AM »
This is pretty neat. Apparently the owners of this house had been seeing images and hearing voices for quite a while. They did some research and found that a lady once lived in the house who lost her husband during the civil war. Legend says that she used to sit at the
table and look across the fields in anticipation of her loved one returning home. He never came. So, they say she still waits. They caught this photo of what they claim to be her. This one was wild and a little spooky once you find the ghost in the picture. It took me a
few seconds to find it, but when you do, it just
stands out. Like one of those optical illusions.

To save you some time, concentrate around the table. Best not to focustoo much on one spot. Look around the table and toward the window.

Keep looking, you'll eventually see it.

Click on the link below for the picture. Best to enlarge. For an added touch turn up the volume, it's faint, but the low murmur you hear was what got the photographer's attention first.

Current Talk '02 II / Dr. Woodard and Dr. Lang
« on: August 16, 2002, 06:12:41 PM »
I wonder what Dr. Woodard thought about Eric Lang.  The two must have know each other for many years.

Then again, Eric Lang was in town when Barnabas first around (though never meeting him then) and the attacks on women and cows drained of blood were found and the townspeople were all aware of them.  Plus, the marks on Maggie's neck and on Willie's wrist.  Perhaps Woodard had consulted Lang on the matter.  Lang at this time would have suspected a vampire but just didn't know who it was.

When Barnabas is in the hospital, it was the final piece to Lang's puzzle. Maybe the existence of a vampire in 1967 led Dr. Lang to think about finding it and using it for the experiment or even the thought of the experiment himself.
