Calendar Events / Announcements '15 I / Joan Bennett movie on TCM
« on: March 04, 2015, 09:08:13 AM »
Tonight (Wednesday) 10:30 p.m. (Eastern) to 12:15 a.m.  TCM has a movie called "Trade Winds" from 1938 with Joan and Fredric March.  From the date, I think she might still be blonde.

I usually watch awards shows, but I skipped the People's Choice Awards tonight.  I just looked up the winners and discovered:

Favorite Dramatic Movie Actress
Chloë Grace Moretz

"I Met My Love Again" - Joan Bennett and Henry Fonda on TCM from 9:30 to 10:48 a.m. (Eastern) today, 12/26

About a week ago I was watching a Route 66, and checked the cast at the beginning, and discovered Grayson Hall was in it!

And several days before that, I was semi-watching a Naked City.  As it was going off I noticed the cast, and it had Mitch Ryan (and Dustin Hoffman!).  If I click record on the DVR before it goes off, it picks up the full program, so I hurriedly recorded it and checked them out the next day.

Testing. 1, 2, 3... / Current Scheme Extremely Difficult to Read
« on: December 03, 2014, 08:01:03 AM »
The regular (white) print is very small.  It's readable, but takes more concentration to see it.  The parts that are blue and links in blue are almost invisible unless highlighted.

Calendar Events / Announcements '14 II / Upcoming TV
« on: October 23, 2014, 09:50:53 AM »
Night of Dark Shadows will be on TCM at 2:a.m. (Eastern) Friday the 24th.

Grayson Hall's episode of Night Gallery - "Certain Shadows on the Wall" will be on MeTV at 1:30 a.m. (Eastern) Saturday the 25th.  It also has Rachel Roberts, Agnes Moorehead and Louis Hayward.

HBO has Johnny Depp's Sleepy Hollow (it's on now, started at 4:15).  They usually repeat things a lot, so it may turn up again.  I can't remember if I ever saw it.  I can't recall anything about it, so I assume I missed it.

I assume you will have discovered this for yourself, but the quote that goes with the pilot and the quote from the movie have the same quote today.

I've been using Vipre for a few years and have been satisfied with it. I've recently been getting a lot of ads for Bitdefender and looked it up and it seems to have excellent reviews. I've seen various prices, in one it's the same as Vipre and in another a bit less. There are also lots of discounts for it.

Does anyone know anything about it and have any recommendations? I also noticed a free version. Would that be as good as the paid version?

I also found a site that provided discount coupons to use with it. Does anyone know if sites like that are reliable?

On MeTV's Alfred Hitchcock Hour, Anthony George is one of the main characters in "The Dark Pool."  It's funny; I think this is the 3rd time it's on and I don't recall noticing it before.  This time I happened to look up the cast ahead of time and so recognized him instantly.

Calendar Events / Announcements '14 I / Old Karlen Appearance
« on: June 26, 2014, 07:12:22 AM »
I caught the end of a Night Gallery (Sixth Sense) on MeTV and John Karlen turned out to be in it. It's a shame I didn't know about it ahead of time to watch the whole thing.

Calendar Events / Announcements '14 I / Totally Off Topic - Eagles
« on: March 30, 2014, 08:40:50 PM »
I thought that some here would be interested in this and so hope it's all right to post something so far off topic.

We recently had a pair of bald eagles make a nest here (Pittsburgh, PA). Apparently, it’s been about 200 years since they’ve been in this area. It shows that the environment has really improved. There are also 2 other nests in the vicinity. This same pair was here last year and raised one eaglet. This time she laid 3 eggs (apparently 3 is unusual). The first hatched on Friday and the second this morning, so presumably a couple of days for the other.

They have a camera on the nest so one can watch them all day! At night it turns black and white. Occasionally they pan around the area, especially if they are trying to locate the other one or something is happening. One night a raccoon got to the nest and the female chased it off. A few days ago a hawk was circling the tree. It’s really fascinating!! If one is watching at the right moment, you get to see both of them together as they change places. And now, when they get up, you can see the eaglets and watch them feed them.  At this point they are still under the parent with the remaining egg.  There is also an archive where one can go back and check anything interesting.

Someone said that Diane Sawyer would have it on the news tonight at 6:30.

So, in case anyone is interested in watching, here’s the link:
http://pittsburgh.cbslocal.com/hays-bald-eagle-cam/
That one has a chat and many are very knowledgeable.  That's how I get most of my information.

There is also another link  http://www.ustream.tv/channel/pittsburgh-bald-eagles/theater, or one can go to the website of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and they have a link.

The archives are at:  http://beta.wildearth.tv/video-archives.  That was down earlier today, but seems to be back now.  The archive includes cameras for lots of other things, too.  This one is Pittsburgh Bald Eagles.  I usually choose “every minute” - it doesn’t take long to scroll through them and then one can find the exact spot one wants.

The movie that Alexandra Isles directed about the blacklist of actors, "Scandalize My Name," is on one of the STARZ stations today.  I don't know what the B stands for, but it's the one they list as STZB at 5:05 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Eastern, today, Wednesday, January 22.

And Joan Bennett's "Scarlet Street" is on TCM at 10:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Eastern.

Calendar Events / Announcements '14 I / Hugo DS connections
« on: January 12, 2014, 09:31:34 AM »
I just saw Hugo (it was wonderful!) and while many of the connections were previously mentioned, I'm not sure all the details were put together.

I had completely forgotten that Chloe Grace Moretz was in it.  And it's amazing that this was the movie she did right before Dark Shadows.  It's not just that the characters are so different, but her appearance, even her age seem so different that I can't believe she did DS right after this one.  I then discovered that Gulliver McGrath was in it (although a very small part) and again, right before his DS role!

But, I don't think it's been mentioned before that Christopher Lee (who had a small DS role) was in it and Johnny Depp was a producer!!!

I was looking through a list of the People's Choice Awards winners and found:

On-screen chemistry: Damon and Elena, "The Vampire Diaries"

and

Sci-fi/fantasy TV actor: Ian Somerhalder

Calendar Events / Announcements '13 II / Intro by Frid
« on: November 30, 2013, 08:58:53 AM »
There's an article in our newspaper about a program on PBS (Saturday afternoon, Sunday morning on our station) called "My Music: Classical Rewind" - designed to introduce new people to classical music.  Many famous musicians introduce the pieces and Bach's "Toccata and Fugue in D Minor" is introduced with a vintage clip of Frid!!  Here's a link to the article:
