I've always wished that Kate Jackson, Alexandra Moltke, and David Henesy would come to a festival.  It might jump-start Kate's career to come to a festival, write a book, appear in the new Johnny Depp movie in a cameo, the possibilities are endless!  She could make some money in those ways.

It is a wonderful idea I think, to get a petition going, to try and persuade the powers that be in making this new D/S movie, to use Seaview Terrace for filming.  If we can just manage to get one petition going, and have hundreds of the fans sign it, get it sent to the right person, it might be considered.  After all, I would say that this is the time to do it, while such a location has perhaps not been decided on as yet.  I had read somewhere that Tim Burton wanted to try and make it as much like the old TV series as possible, and only this location would give it that authenticity.  I don't think hard-core fans of the original series would be too upset if the house did not meet the style requirements historically.  There was much imagination and overlooking of details in the original series!   That was part of it's charm.  One of the reasons I don't like remakes is that very often they do not resemble the original at all.  To me, there's 'nothing like the real thing baby', but of course any version would be welcomed to bring Dark Shadows back into the mainstream of public awareness.  And, I am sure that any movie that Johnny Depp would star in would be a hit.  That is one great factor in our favor.  Then I will not have to keep explaining to so many people 'what's Dark Shadows?' when I'm going to the festivals each year!  I hope the movie really does get made next year--it has been put off long enough-- and that Seaview Terrace will be the filming location.  I've heard from the fans that just attended the tour/party at the mansion, that the Carey's are very nice people, what a great tribute to them and the show, if the movie would be filmed there!  ~~Rick H.

That is a picture of Seaview Terrace in R.I.  I enjoyed it when the festival went there in 2003.

My Sympathies go out to the family of Michael, and to you, for losing your friend.  It is always sad when someone passes, especially so young like that.  I lost my best friend from high school in January, she was only 49, and I will never get over losing her so early in our lives.   I didn't know Michael, but recognized him from the pictures. I had seen him at festivals.  Our Dark Shadows family is like an extended family, to many, losing Craig Hamrick was hard for me, and losing my friend Anna from England in 2003, was hard also.  I will always think of them at each upcoming festival.  They are surely missed.  Hope they can see us from heaven missing them!  Sorry this is so late,  Rick

I kept wondering when I was hearing Jonathan Frid might be coming this year, why this year and not last?  Then it made sense while I was reading these comments, he didn't start on the show until 1967.  So, 40 years of Barnabas would be this year!  I'm a little slow, lol........This will be quite an event if it all comes off. I really never thought that Jonathan would ever attend another festival.  I'm a little surprised at the location, though.  The hotel in Tarrytown is a little smaller, I seem to remember.  I would think that this will be a 'huge' event with him coming.  And yes, I agree with the person who said we had better be on our best behavior!  I'm sure we will be told ahead of time---I doubt there will be autographs, they will undoubtedly restrict video recording, like last year, ect.  And Jonathan is 82, or 83, and at times has seemed to be a bit testy, even I saw it in 1993.  So, yes, we all best be on our best behavior!  But I am so greatful he is coming..........

Thanks for the Birthday wishes, I just saw them all !!  I haven't been on here in a long time!  This was the big one, I turned 50!   See you this summer, Love,  rick

I'm planning on going, my 15th Festival in a row, just looking for a roommate.  I think my usual roommates aren't going??   Rick

This will be my 15th Festival in a row, so of course I've been to both East and West coast festivals, w/ 1 being in Las Vegas.  Over the years I've noticed the bigger crowds at the NY festivals.  Especially in the 90's, at the Marriott Marquis, and when Dark Shadows was being run at the same time on Sci Fi, the crowds were much bigger too.  I've been told that they don't do cities in the Mid-west, South, ect., as 1/2 of the actors live on the East coast, and the other 1/2 live on the West.  It is cheaper to fly half of them to one coast or another,  than the whole cast to a location in-between.  Although, Chris Pennock told me personally last year, that they did not pay his plane fare to Brooklyn from CA.   As far as the restaurants go, the food isn't bad at the Hotels in NY, but the service was terrible in both Brooklyn and Tarrytown.   Also very pricey.  The service and bar/restaurants were much better at the CA hotels, both at LAX and Anaheim. The bartenders/wait staff friendlier there.   Also Hollywood was good.  Plus there were many more places to eat outside the hotel, there.  Nothing is perfect, unfortunately.  I live in Upstate NY, so personally, going to CA is a better vacation for me.  But a much more expensive trip.  I'm sorry that Prof. Stokes can't go, I look forward to seeing her every year!  But I understand, I couldn't afford to go to CA two years in a row, either.  As for the special guest, I'm assuming they're referring to either Jonathan Frid, or Alexandra Moltke.  Those are the only two that would be 'that' special.  I think they are being cautious, though, announcing anyone specifically--- in case the special guest thing doesn't work out.  I hope for everyone's sake it does, though.  I look forward to seeing all of those that can go.  I miss you all,  Rick

Happy Birthday Lara, today was my Grandmother's birthday, too.  Love(d) you both,  Rick

All in all, after reading most of the accounts of the Halloween party, I'm not too jealous that I didn't attend.  Would love to have seen Kathryn and Lara dressed up, though----and Selby too, but saw it in the photos you' all took.  Which were great.  Thanks for sharing.  Too bad a lot of the celebrities didn't show up, that's kind of friggen' ridiculous, with so much hype.   Probably only Chris had an excuse with the fires, of course.  The rest I don't know, probably just couldn't be bothered, which is sad.  Well, the important ones were there anyway, Kathryn, Lara, David Selby, Karen Black, Barbara Steele, and the rest.  Would love to see more of your pictures of the event.   And, hope we have a festival to go to next summer in California.

I am very sad to learn of the death of my good friend Craig Hamrick today.  No matter how bad things were for him, he never complained.  He always had a great outlook on life, continued working until the end, he was a dedicated friend to all of us, and very dedicated to the memory of 'Dark Shadows' and preserving that.  His work in photography and in writing Dark Shadows books is a legacy, he did so much in his short 40 years.  I'm glad he is out of pain now, and with the angels, taking  his rightful place among them.  God Bless you Craig, we will love you and miss you always and forever.  Rick Hatch

I am really sorry to hear the news about Craig. I had hoped that he would have more time.  I was constantly praying for God to give him more time with us.  Was so glad to see him at the festival, and we had a chance to chat awhile, and I had 2 pictures taken with him!  I sent him the pictures in the mail, but I don't know if he ever saw them.  I wanted it to be more personal than just having them online, although I sent him some that way, too.  He had last written to me on 8/31, and that was the last I'd heard from him.  I kind of knew something was up, as I never heard from him again after that.  Then I heard from my friend Rosella that he was in hospice, and I was so disturbed.  I hope he knows how much we think of him, how much we love him, I hope he feels that everyday.  I think his updated version of "Barnabas & Co." is just coming out next month.  How I wish he could be with us to see that.  I know, though, that he will see it no matter what, God must have a special place for this very special friend of ours.  God Bless you and Joe, and your family,  Love always,  Rick

Just wanted to say how much I enjoyed meeting you, Midnite, at the '04 Festival.  Also meeting Carol, and seeing Rosella again, and hanging out with them.  Boy, did we have some good laughs!!  The pictures came out great, too. We had a nice crowd in the lounge/bar, it was nice to meet all the girls in their group. Especially since my dear friend Anna from the UK passed away last Dec., it was nice to make so many new friends. Hope to see you all next Summer ,& also on the boards.  Thanks.

Rick
