I LOVE "The Night Walker"! I haven't seen it in a while, but now I think I might have to make a trip to the video store.

Julia, are you a fan of director William Castle? If so, you might be interested to learn that three of his films--"Homicidal", "Mr. Sardonicus", and "Strait-Jacket" (starring the great Joan Crawford)--are being released on DVD in March. Hopefully, their release will inspire the release of "The Night Walker" as well.

John

Ah, yes! The infamous "Grayson solo" episode! IMHO, this episode alone justifies DS' existence. I can forgive D.C. and Company any mistakes made during the run of the series, simply because they provided us with this amazing episode.

Steve, I did not know that Grayson performed at Hedgerow. I live not too far from the theater. It's incredible to think that Grayson Hall once graced that stage.

Too bad there isn't really a "secret magic number of the universe." If there were, then Frid could have used it to help him remember his lines.

"It is whispered so deeply into the soul that the only way one can remember it is to (long pause) use (long pause) the (long pause) magic (gives Nancy "I forgot my line! Take it!" look)."

Current Talk '02 I / Jerry Lacy

Watching today's episodes, I was struck by how attractive Jerry Lacy is, something that isn't especially apparent when he's playing the Trasks. He has a surprising amount of charisma and sex appeal as Tony Peterson, and it's a shame that D.C. and Company didn't look beyond the Trask "franchise" and use J.L. as a leading man/romantic interest more often.

Hey Ben!

Back when MPI began releasing the series on VHS, they edited out many scenes involving Jason's blackmailing of Liz. I believe this was done because MPI felt that by emphasizing Barnabas' role in these early episodes, the tapes would sell better. I suspect that this decision wasn't as popular as they had thought, because the unedited version of these episodes were eventually released as part of the pre-Barnabas "Collector's Series."

I am quite pleased with MPI's approach to releasing the DS episodes on DVD. Not only are they releasing unedited episodes (as opposed to the Barnabas-centric versions on the initial VHS releases), but the DVD releases will have more episodes and cost less than the VHS tapes did when originally released.

Some good news to go with the disappointing news...

John

Oh, the upcoming scenes of
Julia freaking out are some of my favorites. The episode you mentioned with J clutching the table is the classic "Grayson Solo" episode, featuring 22 minutes of pure Hall histrionics. My favorite moment is when she shouts, repeatedly, that she won't be afraid and then spies the ghost of Woodard and runs screaming from the drawing room.
I haven't been watching lately, but have they shown the episode in which Julia dips her hanky in the fountain and mops her brow? I LOVE that!

Hey Ben!

If memory serves me correctly, I think the curly look was closer to Joel Crothers' own hair. I seem to recall seeing photos of him from the late '70s/early '80s with a full head of curly hair.

I wouldn't be surprised if D.C. and Company felt that a conservative hairstyle was more appropriate for Joe Haskell and requested that J.C. keep it that way.

:
1. The scene during Maggie's imprisonment in the Old House in which she is telling Barnabas about the little girl who comes to play with her. Barnabas looks at Maggie with great sadness, says, "Goodbye, Maggie..." and leaves her alone.

2. Barnabas stating that he "loathes" the person responsible for Maggie's death.

3. Angelique's death in 1840. For all of us who feel that Angelique is the ideal woman for Barnabas, this is a real heartbreaker.

4. The final scene in present-day Collinwood--the last time we ever see Barnabas, Julia, Liz, and the rest of the characters we've grown so fond of.
Thanks!

Joe,

Thanks for the info on flagging. Oddly enough, I have found that the problem is more pronounced on newer equipment than on old. Still, it is quite frustrating.

I've never had a problem with the Nancy Barrett segment of the DVD, but it seems that many people who post to this forum have had that problem. Let's hope that MPI has improved the quality of their DVDs.

John
