Current Talk '03 II / Re:In Praise of Clarice Blackburn
« on: September 14, 2003, 11:12:12 PM »
I didn't remember Mrs. Johnson's departure was imminent...I guess I need to pay more attention  :(

One of Clarice Blackburn's best performances (IMO) was with Mitch Ryan, during the time Mrs. Johnson was a "spy" for Burke...the subtle nuances they brought to their scenes together were superb.

Now who did Daphne really mean would die, Carolyn or .. well I think she obviously meant Julia but i'm admittedly J-obsessed. . . ???

I always felt the warning referred to Julia also...

Sooo . .at some point here I guess the Great G decided longer hair was her thing now rather than the Mia Farrow/Vidal Sassoon cut .. cuz she never goes back .. .lookie all that hair!  :P  Well i'm thinking it's that time again (every 2 years I think this) to go back to the bob/pageboy thing. . .

I'm not a fan of the longer hairstyle either.  I'm thinking that Julia should have grabbed a comb (as well as a change of clothes) on her brief visit to her Collinwood quarters...
I love this 1995 sequence, as it gives lots of Julia/Barnabas scenes...too bad Julia couldn't have looked a *little* more appealing  ;)

Was there any mention (a plaque, sign, or postcard, etc.) at the Inn that indicated it's exterior was used in the show?

As a native, I can tell you there is (unfortunately) no such acknowledgement.  But it is still pretty neat to see the building itself...instantly recognizable to any DS fan!

Donna Wandry really is a sweetheart...but I also cannot stand this character.  She ranks right up there with Hallie Stokes (IMO) as the most annoying female character!

Barnabas is acting like a fool again, but that is predictable.  ;)  What bugs me more is Julia...she finally begins to stand up to Barnabas, but in the end backs down and (once again) gives in to his whims.  Ugh!!

Back to Roxanne...although this one is pretty annoying, the Roxanne in the next storyline is refreshingly different    >:D.

Some of her suits could have been cleaned by renting the RUG DOCTOR since they appear to be made of upholstery or carpeting.

Yeah, they do seem to give Julia (in any incarnation) the absolute *worst* clothes...but Angelexis' dress today was a close second!  I hate to admit it, but I do remember owning something similar...  :D
And while I'm on the subject of cheesy...how about Julia's hair??  I thought that Grayson's own hair about this time was shorter...I wonder if this is a wig?  In the next storyline it gets even worse (IMO) if memory serves.  Poor Grayson, I wonder if she ever complained!

Current Talk '03 II / Re:John Yeager...what can I say.

Yeah, I could not BELIEVE that scene with Yaeger and Maggie in the alley.  I had to rewind the tape in order to prove to my unbelieving eyes that yes, he WAS dry humping her from behind!

I wonder how much of that was an "ad lib" on Pennock's part...I have a hard time thinking that was written in to the script.  :o

I am not particularly an Angelique fan, but having said that...one of the reasons she is an interesting character (to me) is because of her less-than-proficient track record where witchcraft is concerned.  Despite her powers, she is continually at the mercy of her own emotions, which prove to be her undoing time after time.  And no one took advantage of that better than Nicholas Blair.  ;)

Current Talk '03 II / Re:J & A

I love the chemistry of J and A hatching their evil plans.  I'm a total Grayson fan and I love watching her play the nasty.  The old line from Mae West...'when I'm good I'm very good but when I'm bad I'm better'... Oh yeah!!   :o

I had a chance to tune in to today's eps.  Loved Hoffman's little smirk when she successfully planted seeds of doubt in Quentin's mind...I'd forgotten how wonderfully wicked she was!  I'll bet Grayson had a grand time playing her.  ;D

It shows that while the Leviathan's are still controlling his actions, things are coming unraveled.

I love this refreshingly nasty Barnabas  ;)

As for his driving...who knows...I mean, who actually taught him to drive...Willie?  Julia??  Now there's a storyline I'd love to have seen  ;D

Julia loved Barnabas the way only a woman married 20 or 30 years can love a man: no stars in her eyes, no false hopes, no excuses,......and no regrets.  ;)

rainey

Not too sure about the no regrets part...Julia certainly loved Barnabas pretty much unconditionally (IMO), but I definately believe she had regrets (Dave Woodard, for one).  At least I like to think so...    ;)

West Virginia Public Broadcasting's animated film The Griffin and the Minor Canon, for which David Selby provided the voice of the Griffin, received the Best of Show award at the annual conference of the National Educational Telecommunications Association earlier this month in San Antonio, Texas. Brad Stalnaker, the film's animator and co-producer, was on hand to accept the award.

I was glad to have had the opportunity to view that film at the fest.  I was also impressed by the fact that Selby gave the copy he'd brought to a member of the audience who had requested it.  A classy guy indeed.  :-)

I keep mine in those plastic storage containers you can get at Target and they're presently residing under my bed, but then half my belongings are in storage and some day if I ever get a job (two interviews this week though) I'll be buying a DVD player and junking the tapes in favor of DVDs.

I'm about half way through buying the MPI tapes...and now don't know what to do, lol.  The DVD's are clearly superior, but I don't want to just get rid of the tapes I've invested in  :-(     Such a dilemma...

Richard, I never heard of school (except for college) starting before Labor Day until this situation arose so that was a surprise to me.  The schools in the areas I've lived start after Labor Day.

Well, not to nit pick...but the schools in our area always start at the end of August.  It wasn't that way when I was in school, but it seems to be the trend now.  Many schools in the south start even earlier, usually mid August.

I guess it is just surprising to me that the fest would be scheduled on such a hectic weekend...I imagine many of the cast might have other commitments as well.  Perhaps the the organizers weren't given much choice, but it would seem that some other arrangement could be worked out.  Perhaps it's time to find another locale...NY is great, I'll admit, but it's not the only place on the east coast.

The fest location is a bit disappointing, but that in and of itself would not prevent me from attending.  I attended my first fest two years ago at the Marriott WTC, and was looking forward to the fest returning to New York.  However, the dates recently selected (Labor Day Weekend) make it impossible for me to go.  I understand many people don't have commitments/children to ready for school that weekend, but I am not among them.  Perhaps the date change was the Marriott's idea and not the organizers'...but I would be appreciative if a date change was considered.
