Current Talk '03 II / Re:DS run on SciFi to end Dec. 30

I'm sorry to hear that Sci-Fi will stop showing DS at the end of the year, but I thought that was going to happen.  I think they've played it back to back at least twice so it doesn't surprise me.  I started taping from episode 1 when they started playing from the beginning this last time around and only missed a few eps.  *I did have the foresight to tape the last storyline though (PT 1841) and I taped it because I was afraid SCi-Fi would stop playing the show after the 1840 storyline.  Glad I was thinking ahead for a change.

I hate to admit this but after watching and taping faithfully for almost 3 years, I'm ready for a break.  I'm going to dive into some of the Marilyn Ross books, I'm only missing one of those.  Gee, it's hard to get a complete set of anything with DS.

But I do plan to keep watching DS via my tapes/DVDs.  Only at a slower pace now.

Love the pumpkin smileys!

Calendar Events / Announcements '03 II / Re:Festival

I was able to attend the festival all 3 days.  This was my 3rd. festival and  I enjoyed it.  I was happy to see so many actors at the festival, often there are cancellations, but I think all of the actors that were advertised as being there were there.  Even though I didn't get pictures or autographs with  Lisa Richards or Nancy Barrett it was good to see them at the reunion or performance.   Actually, I passed on many autographs/pictures this year, the lines were just too long!  But I must say the actors are fantastic about signing all the autographs and a number of times I saw Jim Pierson trying to expediate the autograph line.

I am amazed at the time these actors spend at their tables signing autographs.  Katheryn Leigh Scott, Jim Storm, Chris Pennock, Marie Wallace, Diana Millay and even Terryanne Crawford seemed to spend all the free time they had at their autograph tables.  John Karlen, Lara Parker and David Selby also put their time in at the autograph table.  If you think about that time plus the time they spend on stage, and rehearsing for the radio show, then doing the radio show which took about 2 hours.  They really didn't have much free time and this was their holiday weekend too!  I'm just glad they care enough about DS to continue to promote the show through the festivals 35 years later.

I also always enjoy the dealer rooms!  I always find many fun DS items to buy.  One of the coolest items I bought besides my charms of various DS characters, was a few hand painted pictures of Barnabas that I was told an 82 year old woman painted.  I thought they were great!  And the prices were  very realistic too.

Current Talk '03 II / Return from the future 1995

Quentin certainly moved up in the world while Barnabas and Julia were away.  It looks like he ended up with the best room in Collingwood and just a month ago, he was being introduced as another cousin and was living in the hotel.

How did he ingratiate himself so quickly into Collinwood? He almost seemed to be in charge of the great house.

My they are a welcoming bunch!

I must say that I really enjoyed 1995.  I thought the acting was very good during this segment.  Quentin really did look like he was insane and Nancy Barrett did a great job as an older mentally unstable Carolyn.  Even her gait was different and seemed appropriate for an older women.

I can't believe we are at this part of the storyline already.  I didn't realize Gerard came on the scene so soon after the conclusion of 1970 PT.  I'm a few days behind, but I can't believe how quickly the next time travel storyline is starting.  *I think it's great that it's starting around the Festival though, supposedly, Donna Wandray, Jim Storm, Chris Pennock will all be at the festival and they are all featured in this storyline.  As well, as the seasoned vets of the show, Nancy Barrett, David Selby, Lara Parker, and more!

I think Julia borrowed all her equipment from Cyrus' labortory.  After, he no longer needed the equipment!

Current Talk '03 I / Re:Idea for "Return to Collinwood".

It sounds great.  I like all of the ideas!  And can't you just see Carolyn and David sharing Collingwood.  It would be the Roger and Liz dynamics all over again.

I thought it was refreshing to see a normal married couple for a change.  I also liked that Carolyn and Julia went off antiquing!  I always liked the scenes in town at the bluewhale or inn.  So I thoguht the anique shop was a nice addition.  I remeber thinking the Leviathin storyline very strange and I wasn' t fond of the child Leviathins and Jeb.  But I'm looking forward to watching the storyline again.  *I also didn't like Chris Pennock at first, but after seeing him play other characters especially Gabriel.  I am looking forward to seeing him!

What I thought was odd about the re-emegence of Barnabas was that he asked Aristede for help when Aristede was passed out on the ground himself! Why would he ask Aristede for help anyway?  *I'm a few episodes behind, but didn't Barnabas know what he was doing the whole time?  Or was that just part of the act??

Love this storyline, but I'm getting ready to go back to 1970.

I couldn't tell from the posts, was the earwig episode the one that featured Grayson Hall?  I do remember watching that one years ago!

Thanks,

Current Talk '03 I / Re:Lady Hampshire: A Missed Opportunity
« on: March 14, 2003, 02:49:38 AM »
I was waiting for the Lady Kitty Hampshire role because I couldn't remember that much about it from the last viewing and I had heard KLS had a chance to play a little different character.  Then when I heard KLS probably would have played Samantha Collins in 1840 I was really interested in this because I wanted to compare the roles and actresses.  I do think KLS could have made a good Samantha and it would have been fun to see her in that role.

Current Talk '03 I / Two Questions??
« on: March 03, 2003, 09:05:14 PM »
 ???

I had two questions while watching DS today.  The first is does anyone know who painted all the portraits they used on the show?  Was it one person or several?

The second one is does Professor Stokes know about Chris being a werewolf.  I just can't recall.  But Julia mentioned something about Barnabus not being able to help Chris.

I'm not at all concerned about traveling to New York or anywhere else in the States.  However, there are only a few places outside the states I would venture these days.

My main concern with going to the fest this year is the dates - Labor day weekend.  What were they thinking?  Plus the hotel seems pricey from what I've heard.  Then I'm concerned about transportation to the hotel from the airport.  It just doesn't seem as convient this year.  I'd be interested to see what actors will be in attendance.

I'm still thinking on going though.

Current Talk '03 I / Re:King Johnny
« on: February 27, 2003, 02:54:30 AM »
I too thought King Johnny was a fun character.  He seemed to get a lot more screen time and lines than most guests on DS.  It would have been fun to see more of him.  However, when I listened to him talk, I thought his voice pattern reminds me of someone, and then it dawned on me TRASK.  The way he goes on in his self richeous (sp? can't spell today) way and how he spoke reminded me of TRASK.  Of course TRASK grammar was much better!

Night Stalker - I didn't realize Sci-Fi was playing it.  I was like 6 when it was on, but I remember each week watching it with my mom and brother.  We all loved it.  I couldn't believe it was cancelled after only 1 season, I gave up hope  that they would play it on TV anymore, (I used to catch the movies sometimes at 2:00am), so I bought all of the tapes.  I thought it was a great show, ahead of it's time.  I do have and have seen the episode with Lara Parker in it.  I was thrilled to see a DS actress in it.  She played what else - a witch.

I highly recommend watching it!
