--- DONNA McKECHNIE'S NEW AUTOBIOGRAPHY
The book about this award-winning international actress, dancer, and singer is in production and due to be released Aug. 29.

--- ALEXANDRA MOLTKE ISLES NEW DOCUMENTARY
Over the years, SG has shared about filmmaker Alexandra's documentary movies. Her new documentary, "The Healing Gardens of New York City," is slated for broadcast on PBS on July 27. Syndicated columnist Liz
Smith says the film is "so incredibly lovely that it gives a person hope for the human race.... Who knew that NYC is dotted with plots of deserted land from Harlem to Rikers Island, from the Conservancy to the Labyrinth downtown, and that all sorts of citizens, high and low (some actually still incarcerated for crimes), have come to love and tend these gardens. There is even a small garden in Times Square, lovingly taken care of in the midst of car exhaust and noisy traffic. This is an unusually tranquil film experience with wonderful music. It will take your mind off a lot of nasty things. Don't miss it!"

*** "KOLCHAK: THE NIGHT STALKER" TV SERIES ON SCI FI CHANNEL

Published SG newsletters detailed the late DAN CURTIS' last project as Consulting Producer on the 2005 ABC series that was based in part on his original cult favorite films "The Night Stalker" and the sequel "The Night Strangler." The network cancelled the series in Nov. and Sci Fi Channel plans to show all episodes - including those not aired by ABC - starting Fri., July 28.

*** NEW DS MERCHANDISE TO DEBUT AT 40th ANNIVERSARY SG has announced and reported about the following new DS collectibles and keepsakes expected to make their first appearance at the Fest convention in August.

--- DARK SHADOWS AUDIO DRAMAS #1 - House of Despair and #2 - The Book of Temptation will debut at the Fest. These original CD stories from Big Finish Productions feature original cast members re-creating theirTV roles: David Selby, Lara Parker, John Karlen, and Kathryn Leigh Scott. Portraying the new character "Ed Griffin" is newly-announced guest actor Jamison Selby, David's son. He was the playwright/director of the first DS sequel audiodrama, "Return to Collinwood," recorded live onstage with 11 original cast members at the 2003 DS Festival.

Note: "Return to Collinwood" CDs are available from MPI and Jamison's actual script is available exclusively from Marcy Robin/ShadowGram.

To note tomorrow's actual 40th Anniversary date, Big Finish Productions will post the cover image for CD #1 on the official CD website - www.darkshadowsreborn.com It shows Quentin and Angelique flanking a mysterious silhouetted figure who is set against a darkly-eerie backdrop of the Collinwood tower.

--- DARK SHADOWS BLOOPERS & TREASURES DVD, new from MPI, will premiere at the Fest. It features a collection of the inadvertent mistakes that occurred when the original DS episodes were "produced live in sequence." There are "dozens of...hilarious mishaps" and "several outtakes." MPI will post information about the DVD later on its website -www.darkshadowsdvds.com - and the DVD should be available in stores in September.

--- DARK SHADOWS - The FIRST YEAR and the DARK SHADOWS 2007 CALENDAR
are slated to be available at the Fest. The book summarizes each individual pre-Barnabas episode and the Calendar features specific photos for each month. SG will update more about these releases as details are confirmed.

--- SG previously announced and now notes other new releases due for the Fest: Books by Kathryn Leigh Scott, Donna McKechnie, and Betsy Durkin Matthes, plus titles by DSOnline writer Craig Hamrick and a Grayson Hall biography by Rebecca Jamison.

*** SG invites all fans attending the Fest and Lara's signings to please share their photos and reports with SG so all SG readers worldwide can enjoy the events with you. Please also send all articles, reviews, and publicity material you may find about the different book, DVD, and CD releases. A Contributor's Copy SG print issue is given in thanks for major sharing.

Thank you.

The more the merrier, but what about the legendary 'holdouts' (Henesy, Jackson, Moltke) and Jonathan??  After all, it IS the 40th Anniversary!!

Seriously, don't wait to send your payment.  Attendance for Saturday and/or Sunday may reach the event room's maximum occupancy (since, quoting Charles, "it IS the 40th Anniversary!!"  :)), so ticket sales could be cut off for specific days, and only a limited number of banquet tickets are sold each year.

Very cool, indeed.  I've always had a soft spot for Lisa Richards, and it will be fun to see dreamy "Frank Garner" make his first Fest appearance,

Actually, it's his second- a very nice man indeed.  It'll be interesting to see both "Frank Garner" and fellow Collinsport lawyer "Tony Peterson" together- Conard had already left the show by the time Jerry Lacy first appeared.

I get more excited about the Festival every day!!!   [banana] I've been trying to get Lisa Richards in my book and on a photo I have been taking to festivals for years. I either miss her or she get work, lol. By the way, I hope you do mean Conrad Fowkes. Conrad Brooks shows up at pretty much every convention.  :o He's a friend of logtime DS fan John Link. Anyway, other than that, he wasn't on the show. (Okay, inside humor for people who know Conrad Brooks.)  ;)  Can Elizabeth Eis be next?

CryrusL, it's spelled Conard Fowkes- actually, he is a descendant of the notorious Guy Fawkes who plottted to kill King James I by blowing up Parliament in the Gunpowder Plot.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guy_fawkes

As to the late Conrad Brooks, here's another DS factoid- he was briefly a brother-in-law to Grayson Hall!

And its spelled Cyrusl like, well, Dr. Longworth. Anyway...
You are correct on Conard. I was afraid I might spell canard.
Now, more importantly, when did Conrad Brooks pass away???? I never new him to be late to lunch, much less dearly departed?
And now, please tell, when was he brother-in-law to our dear Grayson????  Inquiring minds want to know! :o

Would be fantastic if any or ALL of these ppl showed up, but I ain't holdin' MY breath!  ;)  Conrad Fowkes btw is VERY sweet!  Met him at his first Fest which I *believe* was 1997.  He was a very nice and cool gentleman so it will be nice to see him again.  ;)

Well, while I'm not all that interested in the audio dramas, I must say that the picture IS very cool!  Wonder who drew it.

Major oops- Conrad Brooks is still alive- it's Paul Marco (another Ed Wood alum) who died last month.  Grayson Hall was briefly (apparently for 5 minutes) to Conrad's brother Ted Brooks, a fact unearthed by biographer Rebecca Jamison in her forthcoming book on the Divine Grayson.

I was just speaking to my wife and she has the answer. I had no idea that Grayson had been married to Ted Brooks. I'm stunned. What you must realize is that Conrad is at every show in the Virginia/Maryland area, as well as many others. He is a real character, as befitting a man who was part of the Ed Wood circle. I have met Ted a few times, usually when he goes to a show with Conrad. Both appeared in the wonderfully awful amateur shot direct on video in and around Baltimore, and direct by David "The Rock" Nelson , the latter of which aspires ti the "new Ed Wood." Anyway, I bought this video and I've had many hours of laughter, most especially from the outtakes. In one scene, Ted was supposed to say, "I'm looking for the werewolf," while brandishing a baseball bat. Instead Ted speaks, "I'm looking for Batman." I asked Ted what happened, and he replied very dryly, "It was hot and I became disoriented." Anyway, I wish I had known Ted had been married to Grayson. I would like to know what he had to say. Its possible Grayson may have met Ed Wood, but unlikely as the Brooks brothers work with Ed was after their divorce.  To my knowledge, both are still around. Ted was living near Baltimore and Conrad over across the West Va line, although he commutes to LA often. A footnote, when Diane and I were at the DS Festival in 2001, Conrad included us in some footage he was shooting for another Shot on video feature. He later claimed, "It would be the last unauthorized film shot in the Trade Center."  This is amazing to me, as I once noted I see Conrad almost more than my own uncles most years.I'm beginning to think I may title my autobiography, "One Degree from Conrad Brooks."  ;)

Now, I hadn't heard Paul Marco had passed. Even Conrad said he was "a little wacky." Tim Burton shot scenes with both as cameos in "Ed Wood", but allegedly Paul drove him so crazy his scenes were cut.  Most likely I will run into Conrad at "Horrorfying"  [frankie]  in Baltimore the week before the DS Festival. Rutger Hauer and George Romero are Guests of Honor this year. I'm now looking to inquire about Grayson with Conrad. I'm still a little stunned.

IMDB shows Grayson marriage to Ted Brooks lasted about 3 years. I wonder where they lived at that time. I now have a larger if not already big interest in reading Rebecca's biography on Grayson.

I'm not sure that "your" Ted Brooks is the same bloke to whom Grayson was hitched.

Hopefully Julia will be able to clear this up for you.

I must correct this error before it grows too huge in fandom.  Ted Brooks, brother of Conrad, was not Grayson's Ted.  This is directly from Conrad.  Grayson's 1st husband was reportedly from Philadelphia.

Hi Julia99, thanks for clearing that up. I had begun to have my doubts by dinner time tonight. The big clue was the Ted Brooks on Grayson's listing did not link to Ted Brooks, Conrad's brother. Also, its a common enough name. make sure to plan to give Charles a spanking at the festival for running me in circles today. [-forgottosave-]

--the imdb.com is put together by people and has errors--e.g. the listing for Sam Hall with the note "aka Sam M Hall?"--when, where?  his birthname is Allison Samuel Hall--

as for there not being a relationship link with Conrad--that would also have been created by someone "in the know" and not necessarily indicative of there being (or in this case NOT being) a relationship.  One of the links of Ted Brooks for the film When Nature Calls is actually for a black actor with the same name--

Looks like I have to defend myself against possible slander here.  When Rebecca first told me about Ted Brooks on this forum, I naturally assumed it was Conrad's brother the actor-she did not tell me otherwise.  Therefore I didn't intentionally mislead anyone regarding this story.  So there.

Boy is that ever the truth!  You really *do* have to take the IMDb w/a grain of salt since it seems probably at least 50% of the info on there is 'fan contributed' and we do tend to get things wrong at times.  Case in point, there are at least 2 Richard Lynch's on there (I think even a third now) and one is the great B and C movie icon from Brooklyn, NY and the other a younger Brit.  There have been errors in both of these actor's listing for some time now.  Can't tell you how frustrating it is to *finally* track down 'Brooklyn's' movies, only to discover it's the OTHER RL instead.   [8311]

Here is a copy of my original announcement. I did not say nor did I infer anything about Mr. Brooks other than that was the name of her first husband.

"Ms Hall (1923-1985) was a widely acclaimed New York Theatre actress, 1964 Academy Award nominee and co-star of the 1960s-70s iconic Gothic television serial, Dark Shadows. Research into her career has uncovered reviews of Grayson's earliest stage appearances as a teenager on Long Island and includes material on her extensive stage work in New York City; Spoleto, Italy; and the Hedgerow Theatre outside Philadelphia. Rare, previously unpublished documentation of her television and film careers will also be presented

The biographical project's goal is to provide a comprehensive, candid view of Ms Hall's professional achievements, persona and legacy for her admirers, the theatrical community, and students of the history of the American media arts.

The book contains excerpts of interviews with Kathryn Leigh Scott, David Selby, Nancy Barrett, Alexandra Isles, Marie Wallace, Diana Millay, Sylvia Miles, John Guare, Ted Mann, Arthur Penn, and Sam and Matthew Hall.   It will also include several privately, unpublished photos of Grayson's early life, including a photo of her first husband-Ted Brooks, and her theatrical endeavors.

The book is scheduled for publication in August 2006.

Well, as her boigrapher, I think you should straighten out those folks at IMDB and perhaps Wikipedia so no misconceptions are made.  That way Grayson's good name will be protected.

My concern, naturally, is with what's posted on these boards.  From the Forum Guidelines:

You agree, through your use of these forums, to not post any material which is false, defamatory, inaccurate...

It's the poster's responsiblity to clearly label speculation as such.  Thanks!

Neither  Imdb nor Wikipedia say Ted Brooks, 1st husband of Grayson is brother of Conrad Brooks.

Just chipping in my two drachmae--the fact that he is listed in the IMDB notice on Grayson's page as Ted (Bradbart) Brooks (if I'm remembering it properly) is a tip that he's not the same as the Ted Brooks who is bro to Conrad.

Historical research is largely a wearying process of endlessly taking pains...
