Title: HAVE A HUNK
Post by: VAM on April 04, 2002, 04:24:27 PM
Consider the following list with regards to physical attributes and sex appeal. Rate  the DS hunks on a scale from 1 (lowest) to 10 (highest).

Jonathan Frid
David Selby
Don Brisco
Roger Davis
John Karlen
James Storm
Michael Stroka
Chris Pennock
Joel Crothers
Humbert Astredo
Have fun! ;D

This would be challenging.  Different age groups would see this differently, also some some have different ideas about what a hunk is.  Depends on what attracks you.  Well anyway heres my hunk list.

10. Jonathan Frid
 9. David Selby
 8. Don Brisco
 7. John Karlen
 6. Joel Crothers
 5. Humbert Astredo
 4. Roger Davis
 3. James Storm
 2. Chris Pennock
 1. Michael Stroka

Should prove interesting.  I am only rating a few I don't consider the others hunks or do not find them attractive in that way.

10.  David Selby--be still my heart
 9.  Don Brisco--sexy way about him
 8.  Joel Crothers-- a very nice looking man
 7.  John Karlen---something appealing about him
 6.  Jon Frid--something hypnotic about him. LOL

I would have included Mitchell Ryan in there . . . maybe making it in at #5 or 6.  And Jerry Lacy too (as Tony Peterson of course) and I think he would have made #7 for me.

 7. Joel Crothers
 6. Humbert Allen Astredo
 5. David Selby

Oh, this is fun!  Now let me see...

10. David Selby  [king] IMO: All-time King of the DS Hunks :-*
9. Joel Crothers  [thumb] Classic good looks!
8. Don Brisco  [heh] Cuddly looking!
7. John Karlen  :'(  (Willy) Sweet face - pulled on the heartstrings.
6. Humbert Astredo [vryevl] Wickedly cool.
5. James Storm  [pissd] Not bad but should have smiled more.
4. Chris Pennock [silly] Wacky.
3. Roger Davis [kaiokn] Too intense!
2. Jonathan Frid [crazd] He seemed old to me then and now that I'm older than he was on DS ... well, he still seems old.  Go figure!?
1. Michael Stroka - [ltng] Uhhhh, let me think¢â‚¬¦no.

My only change to the above list would be to deep six Stroka and add Jerry Lacy.  Regardless of my dislike for Trask as a character Lacy was not bad at all  [nuts]

Ok, I'll give it a shot.

10. Don Briscoe-far and way the hunkiest  :D

9. Jonathan Frid-loved his dark moodiness, then and now

8. David Selby-it's funny, I didn't care for him originally, but the actor now is quite yummy. He has aged extremely well!

7.James Storm-I don't know, there's just something about him.

6. Joel Crothers-classic good looks.

5. Christopher Pennock-I've always loved blondes.

4. John Karlen-for a good time.

3. Roger Davis-like his looks, NOT his personality.

2. Michael Stroka-does absolutely nothing for me.

1. Humbert Allen Astredo-too oily.  :P

10. Joel Crothers (I will show him what Maggie couldn't! I'd also like to think of him as the "biggest boi.")
9. Don Brisco (Why wasn't he ever on Playgirl or Playguy? When is he coming to live with me as my sex slave? lol)
8. Chris Pennock (Leviathan loveboi...ohhh)
7. David Selby (take that shirt off, Quentin)
6. John Karlen (knowledge of the latter day Karlen's appearance sort of destroys any sex appeal he has for me now, but if I didn't know about his latter-day indiscretions when it comes to eating, well, I would have ranked him thusly)
5. James Storm (he's okay)
4. Roger Davis (desperate times, desperate measures?)
3. Michael Stroka (Take off some of that make up....I guess a lithe young man is a lithe young man, regardless of how not gorgeous he may be)
2. Jonathan Frid (when one ages, their appearance fades; a younger Frid would rank differently. You can't expect a man his age to compare with hot young men 20-30 years younger)
1. Humbert Astredo (Perhaps if he raped me and knew a few tricks to add some spice to it, maybe I might enjoy it, but I would certainly avoid him)

I would also like to add Keith Prentice to the list. I liked how those slacks fit him soo well.  :-* But sometimes it looks like a bomb went off in his face...ouch~!

Now...who has nude Brisco photos for me?  ;D ;D

You mean....I can have any of the DS hunks I want? Or all, maybe? Be still my heart!

Number one all time sex god can ONLY be David Selby! Oh, I love Jonathon Frid too, but let's face it, I'm fickle. And a sucker for the most handsome face and sexiest voice ever.

After David, Jonathon, after Jonathon, Don Briscoe. and I'm going to include John Karlen, because I'm greedy as well as fickle.

But I will stop there. As handsome as Joel Crothers is, he just never struck me in a personal way.

Okay, so even though I watched DS' original run when I was a kid and didn't even think about "hunks," I am now a 45-year-old gay man.  So I'll pretend the DS actors are modern-day TV/film stars and rate them with my 45-year-old take on things (colored by some of my memories of my 12-year-old confusion about who I was growing up to be):

10: David Henesy
9: Don Brisco
8: David Selby
7: Keith Prentice
6: James Storm
5: Roger Davis
4: Joel Crothers
3: Chris Pennock
2: Jonathan Frid
1: Grayson Hall--okay, so she's my ultimate fag hag  ;)

I agree...Henesy is a dream in his 1970 (71?) appearances, but I don't care for any of the stuff when he is very young. The Leviathan boy that came before Pennock was also adorable in a somewhat sensual way. :-*

Jonathan Frid - The man who made me love DS above all other things, I was fascinated by his charisma for almost four years.  Very sexy, marvelous voice, oh, I wanted him!

David Selby - handsome, devilish, loved his smile.  Very charming and sexy.

Don Brisco - not my type.  Cute, but did nothing for me.

Roger Davis - thought him cute back then, great for the grieving Vicki, but again, not my cuppa tea.

John Karlen - adorable, huggable, had that daring, dangerous edge before Barnabas got his fangs into him.  I just plain pitied and liked Willie, who often made me laugh, and men who make me laugh are sexy!

James Storm - eh.  Attractive, but didn't give me that thump below the belt.

Michael Stroka - See James Storm.

Chris Pennock - Cute, seemed like a druggie to me, then and now.  Excellent actor in PT as Cyrus/Yaeger.  Nice eyes.

Joel Crothers - Loved him!  Cute, sweet, great both as evil Nathan and kindly Joe Haskell.  Fabulous hair, eyes, build, he gets a 10 from me!

Humbert Astredo - another sexy devil, there was something very erotic and exciting about this excellent actor.  I wanted to be his helper just so I could look at him as much as I wanted.  He shone as Nicholas Blair.

Love, Robin

1.  David Selby (Quentin, 1897)
2.  David selby (Quentin, 1969)
3.  David Selby (Quentin, 1840)
4.  David Selby (Quentin, 1995)

7.  David Selby (Quentin, 1841 PT)
8.  David Selby (Quentin, 1970 PT)
9.  David Selby (zombie Quentin)
10. Brian Sturdivant (especially as Claude North)

Some hunks I have cherished on DS:

Don Briscoe.  Those eyes, that voice.  And then there's that chest.  Pardon me while I go fetch the drool towel.  I have read a magazine interview dated 1969 where he mentioned skateboarding by moonlight in Central Park as one of the things he liked to do for fun, and that is how I prefer to remember him--at ease, carefree, the wind ruffling his beautiful hair.

David Selby.  He just oozed sex--that wide, generous smile, those smoky blue eyes, the long long legs that seemed to go on forever (and then something else that, in certain scenes in 1897, seemed to go on forever, too).  It was a tribute to his prowess as an actor that he could turn all that charisma off and become a ghost, a zombie, or a possessed sorceror, frigid with evil.

Michael Hadge.  Obviously Buzz Hackett is hardly most folks' idea of a dream date, and he SERIOUSLY needed to do something with that hair (I still think it eventually wound up reincarnated as one of Cassandra's wigs.)  But underneath the ratty persona I found Hadge charming and a bit bohemian.  I bet he knew all the best Indian restaurants in the Village before they became a fad and enjoyed watching the comic-book plays at Caffe Cino.

Brian Sturdivant.  He deserved a lot better than what he got on DS.  I wonder whether he read for the role of Gerard?  Although I really enjoyed James Storm's performance in that role, it would have been interesting to see what Sturdivant would have made of it.  Watch for his cameo role in Diary of a Mad Housewife.

John Karlen.  Another master of chameleon-like transformation, he gave an air of the well-heeled lounge lizard to the role of William H. Loomis, alcoholic litterateur, and a surprisingly muscular sexuality to Desmond Collins.

Joel Crothers.  Clothes really made the man here since I found Joe mostly a well-meaning bore, but Nathan really rings my chimes.  Extra points for when Julia cut open Joe's shirt in that scene in the Old House, finally revealing his manly physique to camera view.

Chris Pennock.  At the time I thought it was funny that an evil hippie had come to terrorize Collinsport.  As an adult, I find a new appreciation for Jeb's leather trousers and the mystic Naga that accompanied him everywhere.  Extra points for a yummy shirtless scene during the Leviathans.  Sebastian's groovy threads win this talented young thesp bonus points in the stud sweepstakes.

Honorable mention for the unnamed actor who played the hapless chap from whom John Yeagar rented a basement apartment in PT 1970.  He was CUTE.

Steve

Hey Gang,

Let's not forget Ed, the Collinsport Town Hall records clerk, circa 1995.  Ed is definitely the strong, silent type.  Why, I'd go so far as to say that man, Ed, he's mucho macho!

Bob, your posts to this topic and the "chick" one are a scream!  Honestly, you crack me up!  Thanks for bringing a smile to my well-worn features.  You have a wry sense of humor that reminds me of another online buddy of mine.

Incidentally, you named several of my favorite actresses on the show in your chick post.

And now to you, Ladies ... sorry to keep you waiting.  I'll have to check my tapes (and oh, the things I do for you fans!) but I'm pretty sure the episode where Julia rips Joe's shirt right off his hairy, sweat-streaked chest, his nipples ripe with exertion (oops I may be calling down the wrath of the mods now) ... to dress an unfortunate wound, is in MPI volume 77.  If it isn't that one, it must be 78, but I'm pretty sure it's 77 (unless it's somehow or other on 76 ...).

Lots of great scenes involving both Julia and Angelique in these tapes, too. Don't you both think you need to RUN, not walk, to the viddy rental emporium NOW?

Your most obedient factotum,

YAYYYY Istvan!

Thanks Vlad!  I was trying to remember his name but kept blocking on it!

He was such a doll--nearly 7 foot tall, but still, a doll!

Thanks again,

Gothick

I knew he was a big guy, but I didn't know he was that big!

BTW, wasn't he also in "Boys in the Band"?   ;D

Also noteworthy is that he was probably one of the first African-American actors to appear on daytime television!

Well, [hello] all!  Just came back from my vacation in Southern Spain and what do I find?  A wonderful DS list to ponder.

No. 1 is certainly easy:  David Selby.  IMO no one even comes close in terms of handsomeness, charm, sexy voice, etc.  And one of you actually put this guy in last place?!  [shckd]  Yes, yes, I know it's all a matter of taste-

The following 2 to 10 is a little harder, but I'll try.

Tying for 2nd place:

James Storm (maybe it was those smoldering looks, tousled locks, pouting lips and that cute little suit he wore)

Humbert Allen Astredo (devilish but oh so classy!  His creepy grin finds its echo in Angelique's laugh)

3. Jonathan Frid (Can't leave out my favorite character, although I view him not as particularly sexy, but attractive in a more romantic, haunting sort of way)

4.  Jerry Lacy (never realized how handsome this gent was until I saw him in his pre-Trask role)

5.  Joel Crothers (handsome in an agreeable, bland sort of way)

6.  Roger Davis (ditto above)

The others on the list are not especially attractive to me, although I always enjoy John Karlen's and Chris Pennock's performances.

Yes, VAM, Andalusia was absolutely gorgeous with its mountains, olive and almond trees dotting the valleys below.  We were even treated to an authentic Andalusian dinner by a gracious Spanish lady who lived in the tiny village of Alfarnatejo (pop. 600).  I had some misgivings about Torremolinos where we stayed, but it was actually much nicer than I expected.  We were about a 10 minute walk from the Mediterranean, which drew me like a magnet every day.  Only disappointment was not being able to swim in it, but I did get my feet (and accidentally shoes and socks!) wet.  Loved those swaying palm trees and orange and lemon trees lining the streets of T-Town, which is completely colonized by expats from Scandinavia, Finland, Germany and England.  A little bizarre but fun!!!

We also made a day trip to Gibraltar where I had a close encounter with a thief who wasn't even human: a barbary monkey who stole my gold earring!  Cutest thief I ever did see-

All in all, I'd definitely say that my trip was a [smash].

;D
