I see that Elementary is new tonight and will supposedly begin at its normal 10pm ET. Putting a new ep of the show on opposite the last hour of The Golden Globe Awards, when all the big awards will be announced, doesn't seem like a smart move to me. But CBS didn't ask me.  [snow_wink]

It''ll definitely be interesting to see the Overnights tomorrow...

Masterpiece is currently showing the new Sherlock series.  I had to wait until later to watch both, so I had back-to-back Sherlocks!  It's intriguing since both have been updated to the present, but are SO different!!

I am very close to starting up the PBS Sherlock Holmes. It's available on Netflix and having the entire series available is coaxing me as I wouldn't normally jump in to a show this late in the run. I am not overly fond of British television but the show comes highly recommended by a friend.

Sherlock is excellent - though very different from Elementary.

Post by: dom on January 09, 2017, 04:32:55 PM
That's what I hear. And I have no intention on comparing one to the other. I love a good (and complicated) plot driven whodunit. Not so interested in character studies so I am hoping it will be more about the crime than Sherlock and Watson.

The Overnights for all the shows haven't been published yet (at least not on the site where I look for them), but as I suspected, here's an article that doesn't bode well for Elementary:

Ratings: Golden Globes Tick Up, Hit 3-Year High in Early Numbers (http://tvline.com/2017/01/09/golden-globes-ratings-jimmy-fallon-2017/)

I haven't watched the latest ep yet, but normally the show is about 50/50 in those departments...

Post by: dom on January 09, 2017, 05:06:04 PM
As one should expect I suppose. When Elementary went overboard in character driven arcs I bitched about that but now I really enjoy it because I am so invested in the characters. I guess 50/50 is best as it gives you nothing to bitch about, lol.

Apparently it's football playoffs that CBS has to worry about because all three of their Sunday shows dipped, with Elementary coming in #3 in its timeslot behind football on FOX and NBC. Though on the upside, it did bring in 2.1M more viewers that ABC's Conviction, which came in at #4 at 10pm among the big four networks. And the even better thing these days is that Elementary will no doubt add viewers once the Live+7 DVR numbers are added to the Fast Overnights. I mean, I didn't even watch Elementary live...

In this week's fast Overnights for Sunday, Elementary came in 2nd place so far as viewership goes - but only by 200,000 fewer viewers than NBC's Shades of Blue. However, quite surprisingly, it had 1.9M more viewers than the season premiere of ABC's American Crime Story...

I know you always move this to the Elementary thread, but I want to make sure that the time stands out to alert anyone.  And, especially since you can move it, it seems better to keep doing a new thread.

Good news for CBS in the Fast Overnights: last night Madam Secretary and Elementary "enjoyed bigger audiences while hitting their best ratings since Dec. 18."

As for Elementary, once again it was #1 in it's time slot, besting Shades of Blue by 1.2M viewers (up from 500,000 last week) and American Crime by 4M viewers (up from 2.7M last week - but for some reason AC is really doing badly this season).

I still say that when it comes to the show being renewed, what's more important than ratings is likely to be the renegotiating of the stars' contracts which presumably expire at the end of this 5th season...

Title: Re: Elementary - Full Hour Late Tonight
Post by: Mysterious Benefactor on April 10, 2017, 04:19:01 AM
If it's not on here, chances are it won't be on there either. That's the way it's worked with shows in the past. Local stations are not happy when their network wants to take a full hour away from them, so we really shouldn't be surprised. Though I have to confess I didn't even think of that when you posted 60 Minutes was delayed by an hour...

Looks like it was a good thing CBS didn't run Elementary last night:

Title: Elementary On Time Tonight!!
Post by: Josette on April 17, 2017, 12:06:33 AM
I wasn't going to post this, figuring I just needed to alert when it's delayed.  Then, I thought that since I've started posting these, if I don't post when it's on time, then if for some reason I don't know or don't get a chance to post in the future, it would appear that it's on time, when perhaps that wouldn't be true!!

Ratings: CBS' Bee Gees Salute Dominates Easter, But Elementary Slips (http://tvline.com/2017/04/17/elementary-ratings-season-5-renewed-cancelled/)

However, even though it slipped from its March 26th showing, it was still #1 in its timeslot, besting Shades of Blue by 500,000 viewers, which is actually back to the same margin it had against that show for its March 19th showing, and besting American Crime by 2.68M viewers, which is nearly the same margin (only off by 20,000) for that same week. So really, viewership was simply back to around what it normally is, whereas the viewership for March 26th was one of the show's highest of the season in the Fast Overnights...

I think last week was supposed to be an "off week."  On epguides.com they don't list anything for the 9th and list last week's on the 16th, as it was, and all the remaining episodes through the 21st.  On imdb.com they list last week's on the 9th when it was originally scheduled, but they don't have anything for the 16th, and then they have tonight's on the 23rd and so on.  So, I'm guessing that the 16th was originally an open week, which conveniently allowed them to make up the 9th!

It's funny you say that because a few weeks back when I went to schedule the Bee Gees special on my DVR, I could have sworn that I'd caught a fleeting glimpse on the Program Guide that there was going to be an NCIS Los Angeles rerun on after the Bee Gees special. But then when I caught last Sunday night's line up a week or so later, after the preemption, there was an Elementary ep listed. I thought maybe I'd misread the listing the first time. But maybe I didn't and the DVR's Program Guide (which is connected to the Internet) updated that night's listing with Elementary. So, if I didn't misread the first time around, then they're already caught up. Good. And thanks, Josette, for helping to clear things up.  [easter_smiley]

Once again Elementary was #1 in it's time slot, besting Shades of Blue by 500,000 viewers (that's becoming a pattern) and American Crime by 2.8M viewers (up from 2.68M last week. Interestingly, though, CBS' entire lineup of NCIS: Los Angeles, Madame Secretary, and Elementary all dipped a tenth in their respective demos - but dipping demos seems to be a situation of late at CBS, even with their most successful shows like NCIS, Bull, Scorpion, MacGyver, and even Big Bang Theory...

"On tap for midseason: Returning shows Elementary, Man With a Plan, Code Black and The Amazing Race, as well as new series INSTINCT and BY THE BOOK."

Interesting. I wonder if that means a shorter season? I also wonder if it will be back on Sunday? If so, who knows what show scheduled for the fall on Sunday will make way for it? Or maybe it won't come back on Sunday, which would be great - but I won't count on it...

I suppose we'll get answers to all those questions sooner or later...

Tonight's ep is an Editor's Pick from tvguide.com:

Elementary
Hurt Me, Hurt You (Season 5 | Episode 24)
10:00PM
Season 5 ends with Holmes and Watson pursuing an elusive criminal as a gang war erupts in New York City. While the NYPD works to contain the violence, the two investigate the murder that appears to have ignited the city-wide conflict and discover that a familiar face is pulling the strings.

The show is also tvguide.com's #1 Top Trending show for tonight. And what's really interesting about that is that the Billboard Music Awards aren't even in the Top 3 (#2 is Madam Secretary and #3 is Shades of Blue). But I'll be shocked if the Billboard special comes in third at 10pm.
Title: Elementary - Just a few minutes late for the Finale

After several weeks on time, they couldn't make it for the finale, but they skipped all news and went straight to 60 Minutes at 7:03. So, if you're recording it, add a few minutes to the end.

Elementary Finale: Mind Games (http://tvline.com/2017/05/21/elementary-recap-season-5-finale-sherlock-sick-brain-tumor/)

Currently the finale has poll ratings of 60.85% Awesome and 30.99% Very Good. It doesn't get much better than that...

As I suspected, the Billboard special came in #1 in its time period in the Fast Overnights (even though viewership dropped 28% from last year). But Elementary was #2 at 10pm, besting Shades of Blue by 100,000 viewers.
