Excellent catch, dom! Especially considering that Selby isn't even listed on IMDb as being in the show - not on its page or even his own. (But then we know you can't always trust IMDb...)

Maybe I watched a different show than everybody else or Fox had their hype machine in full crank but I didn't like it at all. David's part was fine but to me, it was a real tough sit thru...very depressing and muddled.(Sort of like a sci-fi Just Tell Me You Love Me...ugh.) I will try to make it thru the rest of David's episodes but Marcy already let the cat out of the bag..sheesh.

I left this thread to watch just now and when I returned there was another handful of reviews to read.  Thank you, MB, but be careful since some reviews will spoil a few things that you might prefer be revealed during the episode... Though none compare with the huge bomb dropped by Shadowgram; patrickm, I share your sheesh.

Anyway, just as I thought the X-Men movies were starting to suck, we get the weird and wonderful Legion.  I was riveted watching it.  I know the clothes and hairdos and music tell us this is the 60s, but the technology does not, and there's a timeliness to the whole "what does it mean to be normal?" question.

And where else will you hear David Selby say the line:  "If he so much as farts too loud, we're going to Level 2"?

patrickm, hopefully you found something to like in Chapter 2 since they slowed the story down and explained a few things, making it much more comprehensible.

Great song choices in this one!

So far, we know Selby appears in the pilot and (according to the preview) in Chapter 3.

Guess I wasn't the only person who didn't care for the show after all...the audience dropped from 1.6 million in week one to 1.1 million in week 2 - almost a third. Will see if the drop continues in week 3 or not.

To reiterate and add:

Wednesdays 10pm FX channel

If you've missed the first episode and you don't have access to an On Demand service you are shit out of luck. Currently the schedule is as follows for episode/chapter 2:

Sat 2/18 2:00am-3:07am & 11:30pm-12:37am

Mon 2/20 12:00am-1:07am

Tue 2/2 11:00am-2:07am

Wed 2/22 2:11am-3:18am

I finished watching chapter two just minutes ago (it took me three days, lol, but not due to confusion). I've had to create a mantra "It will all become clear eventually".

Drop off from a premiere to a 2nd ep is normal for every show - even to drop off a third. But if the 3rd ep drops, that could be a bad sign...

Though one important thing to keep in mind with a show like this is how much do the ratings change once the Live +7 figures are factored in...

I have thought about researching LEGION to better understand the show but I decided against it.

Well, the audience slide is continuing. After losing 500,000 viewers after week 2, it appeared the slide bottomed out when the audience only dropped 40,000 viewers for week 3. However, the show dropped another 300,000 viewers for week 4 compared to week 3 and the total audience is now less than half of the premiere. Any further dropping and the show is a goner.
Title: Re: David Selby in LEGION
Post by: Mysterious Benefactor on March 03, 2017, 04:17:29 AM
The thing is, though, as I mentioned before, of those 500,000 that might have dropped off from week one to week 2, how many were regained once the 7 day DVR ratings were factored in. And who knows how many of the 300,000 that dropped off from week 3 to week 4 could be regained with the 7 day DVR ratings. I know I rarely watch anything live anymore, so if I was a Nielson family, no show would be registering viewership from me - but I do DVR dozens of shows and I do watch them within 7 days of their original airings. And most of my friends follow the same practice. So these days the live ratings are only a fraction of how well a show may or may not be doing and any discussion of a show's ratings that doesn't include its 7 day DVR ratings isn't presenting the whole picture. That being said, though, if the 7 day DVR ratings are also falling, that definitely wouldn't bode well for show...
Title: Re: David Selby in LEGION
Post by: Mysterious Benefactor on March 03, 2017, 04:29:58 AM
I just tracked down the latest DVR numbers, which are for Legion's second week, and to say the show improved with those numbers would be an understatment because in the demo it gained by a whopping 160% - and in viewership it gained by a nearly as whopping 157%. For example, Live/same day viewership was 1,133,000 and the 7 day increase was 1,777,000 (157% more than the live numbers) for a total of 2,910,000. If things continue to play out similarly, the show is definitely not in as much trouble as some would have you believe...
Title: Re: David Selby in LEGION
Post by: patrickm on March 03, 2017, 06:04:49 AM
Sorry MB, in this case you are wrong. You can't compare live ratings in week one and ratings plus dvr in week 2 and say somehow the audience came back. Wrong. The live ratings for week one was .7 and week 2 was .5 and the rating plus dvr week one was 1.6 , the rating plus dvr for week two was 1.2. That's a big drop by either comparison. The live rating for week four was .4 , so when the live rating plus dvr comes in, it will be down further from weeks one and two..it has to. I follow the site tvbythenumbers and they know their stuff. I think we need you down here working in the Orlando Magic public relations department telling everyone what a great season they actually are having. Lol.
Title: Re: David Selby in LEGION
Post by: Mysterious Benefactor on March 03, 2017, 06:32:49 AM
Actually, all the ratings figures I shared were for Legion's week 2 - and they actually all came from tvbythenumbers.com's own charts for the cable/DVR ratings for the week of Feb. 13 -19, which were posted today.  [snow_smiley]

As for whether or not the Live +7 DVR numbers for weeks 3 and 4 will hold up and the totals might be similar to the total ratings for week 2, that remains to be seen. If they do go down, then, yes, I totally agree that won't bode well. But if despite the fact that the live ratings fell, the DVR numbers rise and the total numbers stay about the same, it won't be as bad as those who are only reporting the live numbers might be saying. That was my point. But only time will tell because the DVR numbers for weeks 3 and 4 aren't out yet...

Legion, ... heading for Comic-Con (http://ew.com/tv/2017/06/29/comic-con-2017-legion-strain-archer-panels/)

"The Legion panel will be in Ballroom 20 with an hourlong discussion (4:45 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. PT) and Q&A about season 2. Showrunner Noah Hawley and executive producers John Cameron, Lauren Shuler Donner, and Jeph Loeb are bringing Dan Stevens, Rachel Keller, Aubrey Plaza, Jean Smart, Bill Irwin, Jeremie Harris, and Amber Midthunder.

FX was quick to renew Legion for a second season before the sixth episode aired, noting what president Eric Schrier called “a stunning achievement.” The finale left us with a lot of questions, and hopefully we’ll get some answers come the Con."

Well, they did say the show was a longshot.  [b003]  I haven't checked yet, but I honestly doubt many, if any of their other dream nominees received any noms either...

Frankly, I'm shocked by most of these more than I am over Legion -

2017's Biggest Emmy Snubs (http://tvline.com/gallery/emmy-snubs-2017-full-list-nominations/#!1/emmy-snubs-2017-jeffrey-tambor/)

- especially The Leftovers' Justin Theroux and Carrie Coon, who gave brilliant performances this season. But as we all know only too well, Supernatural/Sci-Fi type shows almost always get the short end of the stick when it comes to Emmy love...

You mean like Westworld? It got plenty of love...
Title: Re: David Selby in LEGION

WestWorld and Stranger Things are the rarest of exceptions (as was Tatiana Maslany when she was nominated and actually won and deservedly so for Orphan Black). I'm talking the situations that are almost always the case in the typical years of nominations, not what was specifically nominated this year...
Title: Re: David Selby in LEGION
Post by: patrickm on July 13, 2017, 06:54:00 PM
Well, just saying can't use lack of sci fi nominations in general then shrug off Westworld's nominations this year as an excuse for Legion not being nominated.  Can't t have it both ways...Legion does have its fanatical audience who can't stop gushing about it...but there is a larger audience who can't understand what all the fuss is about.
Title: Re: David Selby in LEGION
Post by: Mysterious Benefactor on July 13, 2017, 07:13:08 PM
I wasn't trying to shrug off the nominations for Westworld or Stranger Things - I was merely stating the fact that over the years so few Supernatural/Sci-Fi shows get nominations.

Honestly, I'm much more upset over the lack of nominations for the leads and the show The Leftovers and Eva Green and Penny Dreadful than I am for Legion. Though that being said, there's no denying the fact that Legion has been highly lauded by critics - just a pass through this topic to some of the posts containing links to reviews is evidence of that. But of course its only natural that not every show appeals to everyone. And just because something doesn't win or even get Emmy noms doesn't necessarily take away from the quality of the show or its actors performances, just the same way that dozens of widely respected films and film actors never winning Oscars (another place where Supernatural/Sci-fi suffers) or even being nominated doesn't take away from them...

Apparently they aren't offering the show for On Demand.  I didn't watch it and thought I'd go back now and get caught up.  I couldn't remember which network, so I looked it up and saw FX, checked their On Demand and there are only 4 series listed, not this one.  I tried a search and for Legion it came up with a movie, that was it.

Well, think of it this way: at least they didn't didn't put Legion at #1.  [b003]

Actually, I would quibble with the order of several of the rankings. But that's the thing, it isn't my list, it's their list, and they have their own opinions for why they ranked things the way they did. Just as with lists that include DS, we all have our own opinions of where DS should be ranked vs. other daytime or supernatural or vampire shows. As we always say, none of us are ever going to agree with all the rankings on any type of list because it's all subjective...
