So, are any cousins out there watching this very surreal spoof of the series, "Dank Shadows," on Youtube? I just learned of its existence today although it's been running for several months now and they are up to episode 13.
There are some softcore gay porno references woven in--nothing actually X rated, but some off-color humor. The wildest bits involve Scorcha Burns Ballins (the Laura character) who is portrayed by three different performers in different episodes, including a whacky "To Tell the Truth" dream sequence that a traumatized "Gayvid" has after Scorcha's flaming demise.
I hesitate to actually recommend this stuff, as the humor is beyond the surreal and offbeat, but I've already become addicted.

Where's the link?

Here's a link to the latest episode which includes the first meeting of "Carnabas Ballins" and "Dr. Drulia Hottman":

It's very, very surreal and very very cheesy... don't say I didn't warn you!

That is a hoot and a half. And I love the warning that "Dank Shadows is intended for an immature audience of adults." [hall2_grin]

Heh, heh...

I watched the first episode before leaving for work this afternoon. The guy playing Carolyn has five o'clock shadow. I was still giggling a half hour later after Carolyn said she was going down to the "Sperm Whale". Wicked!

Glad you enjoyed it, Janet!

I just discovered on Twitter that this spoof has its own YouTube Channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/dankshadows

At last the truth "comes out":
DS has a gay following.
Whoda thunk it? [hall2_shocked]

The ones we watched at Seaview were beyond hysterical. Too bad the guys don't do them anymore or doesn't upload them. They are a hoot! Thanks so much for this. It's great! :)

Oh my gosh! I cannot take it. Sorry for the double post. I am doubled over laughing. [Evil_Pumpkins] I am living for Scortcher Bollins. [flmthrw] "You look burnt to a crissssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss--puh!"

These are very surreal, campy and bizzare. I thought it was hilarious how the first thing Druila Hotmann asked Gayvid, in her repetitive, hypnotic voice was "do you have insurance?" A very modern touch. Lol, enough said.

Episode 14 has been posted:

This is a riot of hilarity to enjoy! I'm rushing through the episodes to see them all before you-know-who gets the lawyers going.

Unlike the Austin group's version of DS, which was done straight (no pun intended [hall2_wink]), this is quite obviously a spoof. And even though we certainly recognize everything for what it is, they've changed names and locations. So, I'm thinking this one may be allowed to continue so long as it stays on the path it's currently on. But I suppose we'll see...

Let's keep our fingers crossed, MB - you know how finicky and picky "certain people" are. I'm surprised my door-bell didn't ring one day with a bunch of suits and briefcases standing there, handing me a cease-and-desist order for lending my copy of Angelique's Descent to a friend.

Another weird episode of Dank Shadows, episode 15, has just been posted on Youtube. In this one the gender-bending reaches feverish heights as guests beginning arriving for Carnabas' Costume Ball... The plot is really going off on its own tangent now rather than simply parodying the 1967 storyline.
Great stuff for those of us with a really warped sense of humor!

When I was at Seaview last year there was several videos shown that were a lot like DANK SHADOWS as far as budget etc. but wasn't a spoof. I will not say the person's name; however, some may know him. He could play Julia and Barney both "PERFECTLY!" I was laughing hysterically and inquired in getting a copy. Alas....I couldn't! Supposedly, the person who made them tried to cut a deal with DC/PIERSON who was having NON of it. That being said, I think a spoof doesn't fall under copyright infringement. If so how would Family Guy, Robot Chicken, etc. stay on the air???
I hope it doesn't get pulled because I am crushing on JOHNSON! Yes I am shallow! ;)

You are right, Taeylor. Spoofs are protected from copyright laws.

From a Simpsons Halloween special (paraphrasing here):
Groundskeeper Willie: "Aye, you have the shinnin'."
Bart: "Don't you mean the shining?"
Groundskeeper Willie: "Quiet! Do you want to get sued?"
