These are quite interesting. Love the hoDS hair on Julia.  [ghost_wink]

Though if that's supposed to be Carolyn guesting in both or either, she looks more like Vicki with Julia and Angelique with Willie. But maybe that's just me...

They got a nice spooky quality to them, thanks for sharing!   [ghost_grin]

Wow.  These are super-trippy.  The Julia drawings are very reminiscent of Ronald Searle, a popular cartoonist and caricaturist in the mid-twentieth century.

Does this guy have a connection to the Depp movie?  If that's Willie as he appears in the new film, the existing casting info for the character is obviously a complete blind since they clearly decided to go with a much younger actor.

This guy is phenomenal!!  I hope the Pierson Mob does not shut down his page!!  I want to see his version of Cassandra ... and Laura!

I suspect his interpretation of the characters are purely his own. Have you seen his version of Buzz?  [ghost_wink]  If not, check out Sara Monster's link. Not a Cassandra wig in sight - more like Buzz channeling '70s Carolyn.  [ghost_grin]

Ooh, I love his version of Buzz!  I agree, I think this is totally his own vision of the series.

Did you notice that Buzz is wearing Sebastian Shaw's medallion at one point?  The sun and moon thing?

I would love to see this guy do a whole DS comic... or a series of them... too intelligent and cultured to get a contract though I would think...

I like the pen and ink work, and this person's devotion to Dark Shadows. Not many people do Dark Shadows artwork anymore. Kudos to him. At the same time, however, I'm not in love with it....

The comparison to Ronald Searle is right on the mark. Rather stylized but quite interesting.

A major boo-boo in terms of the original series is the cat-claw manicure Julia sports in the drawings.  One of Grayson's personal habits was that she always kept her fingernails clipped extremely short.  I don't actually recall ever seeing her in a role where she had on false fingernails, even.  In That Darn Cat you can tell when the cat handler is working with Pussy because there's a close-up and all of a sudden this person has these long, carefully cared-for nails.  Grayson doesn't have those, "not now and not ever" (that's a quote, you know).

The resemblance to Grayson is only a casual one in the Julia drawings.  She looks more like Cruella de Ville.  I appreciate the artist's appreciation for Buzz even if he did a radical re-cast of the character and persona.

OK, I need to stop going on and ON about these!

Does anybody else find the drawing of David to be uncanny?  I love these interpretations of the characters, especially Buzz.  And I never liked him before...  [ghost_cheesy]

I would love to see some online comics with these illustrations!

Fantastic!  His artwork almost reminds me of a "hip" version of Ed Gorey.

I really like this one:

http://caltsoudas.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d40yua1

He does mention that he's working on a full scale online comic book from the series, but I am afraid if he starts he will be issued with a cease and desist order from a certain busybody in LA.

David in the above drawing looks like a male version of Edie Sedgwick during her "Youthquake" days in '65-'66.

He blends a variety of styles--a panel that shows what appears to be Maggie Evans in suspended animation covered with cobwebs is very reminiscent of some of Erte's work.

He just added a Barnabas panel; he says that his look for Barnabas is now "a hybrid" of Jonathan Frid and the look Depp has in the new photos:

Interesting hybrid. He certainly brings his own unique take to the characters, and the more I see of his work the more I like it. And obviously he's a fan of Depp's look in the paparazzi photos.

Don't know when Ang/Cas was ever in a wheelchair, but it's an interesting image.

Love Nicholas.

I love this!  There's text (he may have added it after you saw the page, MB) where he describes his idea for the introduction of Angelique in the storyline and mentions that he weaves in the original Sabrina storyline in which Cassandra is "a demented-looking vegetable in a wheelchair."

And Hippie-Buzz leads a seance.

I so want to see this.  This is the kind of redaction of elements of the original plus new ideas that would evoke the essence of DS but be a NEW story.

Not re-filming scenes from hoDS for the fourth time in a row.

Today he has added his written outline for the graphic novel scenario.  I just made a print of it.  From glancing at it, it seems to be a mixture of the original series (dateline 1969/1796) and the little synopsis Warners released for the Burton/Depp feature--e.g. this novel has Barnabas returning to a semi-ruined, dilapidated Collinwood with "strange decor."

He said it's not likely to be up on his deviantart page for long, so if you're curious to read it, don't hesitate.  The text is a PDF file you download from Googledocs so you need a Google/whatever log-in.

I've become a bit obsessed with them, particularly the idea of Cassandra as a vegetable who becomes possessed by Angelique.  The illo of the witchy one hypnotizing David with the candle is vintage DS.

Those are great!  I love the style of his drawings, and how he's reimagined the characters.  Seeing Nicholas was a huge plus.

Cassandra is, now and forever, Our Favorite Witch!  I would love it if there is an allusion to Angelique's Cassandra persona in Depp Shadows.

George's take on Cassandra is really intriguing!

A panel for Victoria Winters has been added, along with sketches (some very rough) for the Foyer in 1796 and 1969, and for the scene where Barnabas first meets the family.  The latter includes a rough concept for Roger which he says is going to be developed further.

I'm touched that he references the wonderful album by Wendy and Bonnie, Genesis, in his writing about Vicki.  The artist seems to share Donovan's 1960s obsession with the sexuality of teen (or even tween-)aged girls.

This story is the end, simply the end.  This is exactly how I imagined a Burton Dark Shadows would play out.  Somehow, I think the Burton version will actually be much closer to the original than this.  But, this is terrific!

This artist is active on at least on DS FB page but I don't remember which one.  There are some other artists drawing DS characters on FB too. Just an FYI.  Afterall, I am an endless well of fascinating information. [ghost_happy]

love the vicki drawings...

not sure why he's combined her with maggie evans though. they were two completely separate characters.

for me they're very evocative of alexandra so it's funny that besty durkin is his visual inspiration although his reasoning for it are interesting.

for me moltke's presence had gravity and seriousness to it while durkin was just sort of silly. especially given the surrounding context of her period on the series.

I found that a bit odd, too. I might have understood it if he was going for Maggie's Magtoria period when she was governess at Collinwood, but the panel is chiefly supposed to be Vicki.

But at any rate, I like what he's drawn.
