Title: DS DVD Sale At Amazon.com
Post by: Mysterious Benefactor on July 11, 2010, 05:33:59 PM
As part of their classic TV DVD sale, Amazon.con is selling more than half of the DS DVDs for only $25.49 and others for $25.99. A perfect opportunity to expand or complete your collection.  [ghost_wink]

The first set (#1) can be found here (http://www.amazon.com/s/qid=1278865911/ref=sr_pg_9?ie=UTF8&bbn=672576011&rh=n%3A130%2Cn%3A!49598011%2Cn%3A672576011%2Cn%3A898094&page=9), but the set numbers are all jumbled, so you really have to continue through page by page to find the set you might be looking for...

The sale ends July 26.

If only I had the extra money but they thankfully put DS on sale from time to time!  Regardless....thanks for the heads up MB!

Not that I would really advocate spending beyond one's means, but sales like this are why credit cards were invented.  [ghost_wink]  Especially considering that this sale probably features the cheapest price so far for the DS DVDS, as well as the largest selection of them. But, of course, ultimately the choice to buy or not to buy comes down to one's bank account...

I may try to get one set; however my bank account isn't looking good with a trip to NYC this fall!

This is the second time that amazon has dropped the price on their DS DVDs as soon as DeepDiscount's semi-annual sale ended. Coincidence? Why doesn't amazon cut their price at the same time that deepdiscount does? That really irks me ... I just bought three sets at DeepDiscount.

Thanks for the heads up Mysterious B!  This Amazon sale couldn't have come at a better time.  I am in the middle of a bad experience with Deep Discount.  I received a damaged DVD about 6 weeks ago and returned it immediately.  As of today I have still not received a replacement or a refund.  And this is after numerous calls and emails to their customer service department.  I am going now to purchase several DVDs from Amazon.
Thanks again,
John

Gee, I've never had trouble with DeepDiscount. Well, except for some orders taking forever to arrive (like 4 to 6 weeks rather than 5 to 10 business days). But I'm pretty sure that has more to do with the USPS than DD. [ghost_rolleyes]

I wish you luck in getting the problem resolved sooner rather than later. And I'm glad you could take advantage of the Amazon sale.  [ghost_smiley]

That I don't know. But deepdiscount.com usually has a big sitewide sale around November for Christmas. I suspect that might be the next good sale. if amazon.com was smart, they'd also have a sale around the same time to compete - but they don't generally...

If you keep checking Amazon Vendor for your target volumes, you can often get them around $25 apiece including postage.  I'm talking about NEW sets here, not USED.  But you have to check.  When I was shopping for them actively I just checked once a month or so.

If your connection is fast enough to allow you to watch Youtube, that allows you to watch the DS Minisodes.  The last time I checked they were well into 1897.  I think all of 1967, 1795, and 1968 is there.  Each ep is pared down to 9 minutes or so but it does help you get your fix when you really need it.

Best wishes,

G.

I had an e-mail from Amazon today saying "But hurry--sale ends August 23."  So I hastened to spend far too much time going through the list of box sets, and ordered, among other things, The Dan Curtis Macabre Collection (Dracula (1973) / The Turn of the Screw (1974) / Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1968) / The Picture of Dorian Gray (1973)) for $23.49.

well the sale said $25.49 now it says $27.49 so it's not much of a leap. but thanx you for the news.

I appreciate this post alerting me to the sale.  As of now I can say that I was able to get 4 volumes and one from a private seller for only $18! As of now I am the proud owner of all of Dark Shadows Beginning episodes and I only lack 12 more volumes in the Barnabas episodes!  I am more than half way there! YAY! :)

well for me, i have Volumes, 1. in the "Begining" series in the standard series, i have 1-3, 17-22,24-26 & i also plan on taking FULL advantage of this FANTASTIC sale & buying hopefully a few more. i get paid this week. & i say Fantastic cause have you seen the prices on some websites for the series? they are simply TERRIBLE! full price at Boarders.com well counting tax & shipping. other than that it's $56.00 ,  $70 bucks at "Best Buys" official Site & that's without Tax & shipping. i'm sorry those prices are just plain TERRIBLE! & Especially "Best Buys" i LOVE the show but i'm NOT THAT big of the show to spend nearly $80 bucks on just one volume!  it's just NOT worth it.

no show is.

Thank you so much MB!  [ghost_grin]

B.Collins I agree as well.  Mpi and other various sites have them WAY overpriced.  I love the packaging as it's very sturdy and will last most likely a lifetime but lets face it the disc's were not made all that great in my opinion.  Netflix told me that out of all their series DS is the worst one for breaking and people having disc problems and they constantly are having to replace them! I expect this is why about 6 or so volumes are not available at this moment because they are being replaced.  I have experienced this a few times as I have had to return about 5 DVDS in the past and have them replaced and they were new. I don't know if anyone else has had any trouble but I sure did.

oh i believe it. i'm THRILLED that they put the dvd case smaller at some point. cause when the dvd's 1st came out those are a bitch to use. they either don't stay closed or the discs do fall out. which is why i think they made the cases smaller.

another series that Overprices stuff is the "BBC" i LOVE "Doctor Who" as well but buying Say Season 1 for $80 is just plain TERRIBLE for just 13 episodes. they NEED to down price their stuff as well. they aren't going broke. neither is "MPI"

i think i saw on "MPI" that they did lower the price somewhat on their "DS" dvd's. because it was $59.99 which is NOT a price i like to be honest. i dunno what the prices is now. but last i looked it was i think $40.00? which is a bit more reasonable.

these sets don't have that much when it comes to extra's. & i can live with that. they have interviews & Vol 26. has stuff on it so i can live with that. but you would think that they'd lower the prices what with today's Economy.  we will buy the sets either way but you would think that if they loward their prices to say $30.00 Everywhere we'd buy them a LOT Faster than at the current prices. but than what do we know ya know?

Wow - I've never had any problems with any of the sets. I guess I should count myself very lucky.

my Volumes came & on time for a change! when i bought "The Nightmare On Elm Street" DVD set way back in (1999) it took 3

weeks i believe to get here cause it went all over & because of it being so late & that happening i got like i think 20 bucks off

the set. anyways i'm thrilled my sets are here.  that would be  Volumes 4 & 5.

The prices on Amazon seem to fluctuate a lot on some items. It's odd - but if you hit it right, you can make out like a bandit...

One of the nice things about pre-ordering with Amazon is that if the price falls lower than the price was when you first pre-ordered, you're guaranteed that lower price. That came in quite handy when I bought Season 2 of True Blood with them because the price fell twice between the time I pre-ordered and the set shipped. It ended up costing me $10 less than what I was originally expecting - which was already less than any other sites were charging.
Title: Dark Shadows DVD Collection...Big Sale at Amazon.com
Post by: VictoriaWintersCollins on October 05, 2010, 03:49:58 PM
Dark Shadows: The Beginning and  DVD Collection

The price has been cut to $19.49 per volume or dvd  box set.

That site changes prices on a whim, so who knows how long that will last.

Maybe it will be for the entire month, since Halloween is coming.

That is wonderful.  I was going to post this but got side tracked.  Those are still great deals compared to Mpi's prices. I have no idea why anyone would pay their prices!

thanxs for the news. i have since obtained a few more sets since i last posted here on this thread. now i have volumes. 1-10, 17-22,24-26. & "The Begining" volume #1.  & sorry for my bad spelling.

i wish they would have put it even cheaper on amazon. i've always wondered why in the hell MPI charges soo much for their sets?  i'm guessing people would buy more of them if they actually reduced their prices to say $40.00 bucks or so. that's a LOT better than $60.00 plus tax & for shipping as well.

tell me about it. anyone here, go to "best buys" Offical website  & look "DS" up & they sell them for $70! now that's plus tax  & shipping & handling. that's prolly around $75.00 bucks! i'm sorry cousins i love the show dearly as you all do here of course, obviosuly. but it's just NOT worth spending that type of money on any show.

anyone see the prices for the seasons as we call it in the USA of the show "Doctor Who" ? they are terrible!
no matter where you go to buy it. weather it's the blu-ray or the dvd sets they are terrible. i love that show as well. but i'm NOT spending $80 bucks for 13 episodes. the show isn't worth that. neither is 'DS"

MPI may have terrible prices but they are least Cheaper A LOT cheaper than "Best Buys" i'm guessing once the film comes out & they put the show back in stores, i am of course assuming the prices will be somewhat better. at least in stores anyways. i mean hell i bought the 1st two seasons of 'Hawaii Five-O' for $9.00! each at best buys cause the remake is such a Hit. thankfully. & actually i am enjoying the remake of that

MORE than i thought i would.  [snow_grin] anyways going back on topic. thanxfully there's sites like Amazon that have these great sales every now & than that sell "DS" at a decent price. god if "DS" ever want to Blue-ray i would HATE to even imangine the prices on THOSE sets ya know? any tv series on blue ray is over-priced as it is already. at least i think which is why i haven't bought any just yet for my player.
