Title: Seeking Dearly Departed DS Cast Information
Post by: CastleBee on July 17, 2006, 05:39:45 PM
Over the last couple of years or so, I have requested that TPB at Find a Grave.com add a section for Dark Shadows cast members in their Posthumous Reunions section (under Famous Graves -=http://www.findagrave.com/index.html (http://www.findagrave.com/index.html) ).  I even gave them a list of names of several cast members - already listed on their site - but for some reason, they are being very obtuse about adding DS  >:(.  Of course, this just makes me want to forge ahead so, the other day I decided to use the new feature they have made available called Virtual Cemetery and added a section of my own called Eagle Hill Cemetery http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=vcsr&GSvcid=11486 .  I have listed all the sites for departed DS cast members already on Find a Grave and I'm trying to collect information for some who are either not listed at all or are missing information on their page.

One person not listed at all was Michael Stroka.  So, last week I attempted to gather some basic information on him and list him myself - along with a photo I had scanned awhile ago from an old magazine.  Unfortunately, I do not have any cemetery (or other) information and apparently, without that and regardless of his decent list of acting credits, Find a Grave will not put him in the famous section.  I thought, at first, they had deleted the information entirely but, they actually just put him in the non-famous section instead http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSvcid=11486&GRid=14915390& .   Anyway, if anyone happens to know where he is buried or scattered (as the case may be) I can re-submit his information and get him listed with the other actors from the show.

Other information needed is a photo of David Ford http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSvcid=11486&GRid=3400215& - I haven't checked every page in my Eagle Hill Virtual cemetery yet so, there may be others who are missing information.  If anyone has a photo of him , please feel free to add it.  If you don't want to add it, I will be happy to do so - contact me via this board and I'll give you my private email address.  (Also, just so you'll know, the only (famous) info I added to the site was for Anthony George and Michael Stroka so, if you see errors there let me know.  Any other errors are out of my control :) )

(BTW: In case you aren't familiar with it, Find a Grave seems to be a pretty decent site in that they have always seemed respectful of the people listed there - even to the point of disabling the feature where the public can post "virtual flowers" if the comments become rude.)

A fan named Cheryl, who posts here from time to time,
has a lovely tribute to Craig Slocum at Find A Grave.

Yes, I saw that and thought it was probably put together by her.  I added that one to my Eagle Hill virtual cemetery also.

BTW: the virtual cemetery feature on that site is really just a list - other than the entries I mentioned in the first post, I take no credit for any of them.  I get no reward/credit of any kind for putting the list together (or any of the non-famous info I have added for that matter).  I just felt that since there were already so many of the deceased cast members on the site, it would be nice to group them somehow and give recognition to the actors as well as the show.

Being the morbidly curious types we are  [vampire] [gorgeous], Diane and I always enjoy visiting noted cemeteries while vacationing. I have found Find-A-Grave to be of great help, especially on last year's Hollywood trip, because as some of you may know, the two Forest Lawn cemeteries refuse to offer any assistance to locating any site for you.  [grim]  Anyway, all that said, I think all the work done by the obvious fans of Dark Shadows is a beautiful tribute to the enduring quality of work done on the series. Thanks to you for your good work at creating virtual "Eagle Hill" Castlebee.
I have one question, and I'm sure someone on these boards knows, was Grayson indeed cremated? Does anyone know further details?

Thanks,
Michael

I have one question, and I'm sure someone on these boards knows, was Grayson indeed cremated? I had heard that she was interred somewhere in upstate New York, perhaps near Poughkeepsie/Wappingers Falls. Does anyone know further details?

I want to know where Joel Crothers is buried, anyone know?

Cremated
Specifically: Ashes scattered over Lake George in upstate New York.

Just a comment-- There's a distinction between public events and what fans might do in private, and regarding the latter, it's up to the particpants whether or not it's to be a topic for Forum discussion.  Thanks.

Ah, well that explains why my friends and I have been unable to find his grave, LOL!  ;)  Thanks!

Find a Grave has the following information on Grayson (and a very pretty photo of her as well)...

That's my question! The information I have always heard contradicts Find-A-Grave. I appreciate your work, but I just don't know definitively the answer.

Any details beyond what will appear in GH's published bio is respected here as private.  And what posters hear from other fans is considered gossip.

From the Forum Guidelines:

These boards are not forums for the spreading of gossip or innuendo, or the defaming of the DS actors' private lives. Comment on their public behavior, whether it be a personal appearance or in the course of some other form of public exposure (i.e. a talk show, Fest appearance, etc.) is perfectly acceptable, however.

Sorry - I must have mis-read.  Can't help you beyond that.

She was Jewish wasn't she?  Because my former boss, who was Jewish, was cremated and at the Chivas (sp?) the Rabbi mentioned he was cremated and that that was unusual for the Jewish to be cremated, then quipped, "But then, David was a very unusual man!"  So I guess *my* question is, was she Jewish?

BTW, it *is* quite a nice photo of the Divine One!   ;D

I apologize for the delay in completing the edits and unlocking the topic.  Spotty connection on my laptop and all that, bah!

Anyway, see replies #6 and #10 for reasons for the edited posts.  To further explain reply #6, if you weren't present at a private gathering of fans, please refrain from posting details about it without the participants' permission.  And continuing to single other fans out to pressure them into revealing information about a private event will result in an official warning from the Forum moderators.

I guess this was me, oops!  Sorry!  Didn't realize I was breaking the rules.  But in thinking about it now, I guess I *was* speaking out of turn since I wasn't there.  But I meant no offense, nor was I trying to pry into their private business.  I hope no offense was taken by said fans.  Really I was just saying that I *thought* somewhere a gravesite existed for Grayson in answer to Michael's question.  Again, sorry if anyone was offended, that wasn't my intent.

I wasn't trying to pressure anyone to reveal where her grave was, again, was just trying to answer a question posed by a fan on here.  Sorry if it appeared that I was, but I'm not that type of person.  Again, I was just adding my two cents as to whether or not one existed.  Didn't think it came off as pressuring but if it did, to those fans, I wasn't trying to pressure you.  ;)

Just wanted to say thanks to whoever posted the photo of David Ford on his Find a Grave page.  Famous or not, I think it's nice to at least have a photo of the person if you're going to list them.

Author John Auster has a book of short stories out entitled The New York Trilogy (c) 1985.  In one of the stories, the protagonist has a 'pack rat' neighbor.  I read an interiew with Auster last year who said the pack rat was based on an old neighbor of his on Central Park West, an actor name David Ford.
