Check out this particular these items for sale- look like original ABC-TV tapes! Does Jim Person or Dan Curtis Prods. know about this?
Are these videotapes from the studio being sold illegally?
Item #4872726818 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4872726818&ru=http%3A%2F%2Fsearch.ebay.com%3A80%2Fsearch%2Fsearch.dll%3Fcgiurl%3Dhttp%253A%252F%252Fcgi.ebay.com%252Fws%252F%26fkr%3D1%26from%3DR8%26satitle%3D4872726818%26category0%3D%26fvi%3D1)

If the above link doesn't work (how does one put a link here on this board? Apparently we're not allowed to paste links in, and I had to type the whole damn thing by hand!), go to eBay, and look up item# 4872726818.

It's working now.

Right clicking has long been disabled here, Charles. You paste using Edit/Paste in the dropdown menu, or the Windows shortcut Control+V.

I don't see how it would be illegal unless they were acquired by nefarious methods.

Don't think they are "original," as the description refers to syndication. These were probably issued for local broadcast sometime after DS went in to syndication. Obviously, they originated from ABC, but not during the original run. 1980s, maybe?

the ad says, three are 1" and one is 2" videotape. well legal or not, good luck playing the 2" videotape! there are very few machines left in the united states and perhaps the world that still operate anymore. they dont make them anymore and no parts can be replaced either unless u take a part from another machine. the 1" videotapes can not be originals cause the originals are on 2" videotape.the 1" tapes are most likely from the 80s syndication days. even to playback 1" videotape u need to know someone in the broadcast industry and even these machines arent used much anymore. one final note, original 16mm kinescope episodes of dark shadows have been sold by film collectors for years. i think the legalities come into play when you make copies and then sell the copies.

in the description it says "revisited" on 1" reel. anybody know what that could be?

The note on #4 sounds as if these were tapes used in the 1980s WorldVision syndication.
I wonder whether this could have been the episode where Barnabas and Chris dig up a coffin containing a baby in the woods? In one of the Edward Gross books there was an episode guide that mentioned that that episode had been skipped in WorldVision syndies in the Eighties.
Interesting!

You can't sell animals, that's for sure.

well i dont think u can sell anything on ebay. i found this out when i tried to sell some footage i shot of celebrities getting their stars on the walk of fame on hollywood blvd. these are public events and no restrictions on photography or videotaping. so i put a dvd containing several of these ceremonies up for auction. the item was removed by ebay! they claimed i was selling copyrighted material. i tried to explain that it was my own footage and no different from people selling celebrity photos but they didnt agree and refused to list this item. yet it is ok to list videotape episodes of copyrighted dark shadows episodes!
