11 Actors Who Took on the Role of Watson, With or Without Sherlock Holmes
As Morris Chestnut prepares to portray a John Watson mourning the death of Sherlock Holmes in a CBS series, see who else has played the good doctor. (http://)
"Lucy Liu
This A-list action star presented a gender-flipped version of the character in CBS’ Elementary — which aired between 2012 and 2019 — with producers asserting that her Joan Watson and Jonny Lee Miller’s Holmes would never have more than a “bromance.”"

15 Best TV Shows Like The Mentalist
In the "The Mentalist," an ensemble of eccentric characters put their differences aside to solve crimes. It's a tried-and-true formula for a good reason. (https://www.tvline.com/2061173/best-tv-shows-like-the-mentalist/)
Includes Elementary:
"As the most famous detective duo of all, the stories of Sherlock Holmes and John Watson have been adapted hundreds of times on both the big and small screens. The CBS series "Elementary" has the distinction of being one of the most unique iterations of the characters. Jonny Lee Miller plays Sherlock, who in this story is a recovering drug addict who's recently relocated to New York City. In a stroke of utter casting genius, Lucy Liu plays Joan Watson, a former surgeon hired to be Sherlock's sober companion.
On paper, the differences between "Elementary" and its source material stand out, but in practice, these distinctions are more than just a trendy schtick. Miller's Sherlock retains the character's quick-witted brilliance and eccentricity, while imbuing him with complexity and an underlying sense of kindness. Liu's Joan Watson is equally as patient and empathetic with Sherlock as she is frustrated with him, and she is given the chance to shine just as much as her partner.
While "Elementary" doesn't fulfill the enemies-to-lovers trope, Sherlock and Watson's relationship is the most tender, nuanced take on the duo we've ever seen. Indeed, that their relationship remains platonic is part of what makes it so profound. The quiet love they have for one another is not something we often see on screen."
Nice photo of Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu (though they don't look too happy in it)...
Interestingly, I watch or did watch every show on the list. Currently I absolutely love High Potential.

15 Best CBS Shows Of All Time, Ranked
To go through the history of CBS, aka the Eye Network, after its logo; aka the Tiffany Network, after one of its foundational locations in New York City's Tiffany and Company Building, is to ponder some of the most iconic television shows ever aired. (https://www.tvline.com/2076905/best-cbs-shows-ranked/)
10. Elementary
Another procedural inspired by a beloved literary detective, "Elementary" takes Sherlock Holmes and transports him into 21st century New York City.
Holmes is played by Jonny Lee Miller, whose performance gives the culturally ubiquitous detective a pleasing, droll sense of prickliness, intellect, and bleary-eyed trauma. Assisted by the gender-flipped Dr. Joan Watson (Lucy Liu), Holmes consults with the New York Police Department, solving the most seemingly impossible cases and slowly bettering himself along the way.
"Elementary" folds in some recognizable elements and characters from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's "Sherlock Holmes" mythology, including Holmes' archnemesis Moriarty (Natalie Dormer). But at its most pleasurable, accessible best, it functions as an intoxicating police procedural with personality, great performances, and depth to spare.
Nice photo of Jonny Lee...
(And because a few DS actors appeared on it, it's probably worth mentioning that Murder She Wrote comes in on the list at #6.)

8 Best TV Versions of Moriarty, Ranked
Created in 1893 by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle for the short story “The Final Problem,” Moriarty was a brilliant mathematician who pulled the strings of London’s criminal underworld. (https://www.tvinsider.com/gallery/moriarty-best-version-sherlock-holmes-villain-ranked/#8)
2. Natalie Dormer
Elementary (CBS, 2012–2019)
One of the bolder reinterpretations, Elementary fused the characters of Moriarty with Irene Adler, “The Woman” herself. Natalie Dormer‘s Jamie Moriarity version was icy, seductive, and ruthlessly intelligent, and her end-of-season reveal was a genuine shock. She weaponized emotional intimacy as effectively as criminal infrastructure, making her betrayal of Holmes deeply personal. She understood him completely, so much so that even after her capture, the two continued writing to each other. Beautiful, brilliant, and deadly, this Moriarty was never someone to underestimate. As she chillingly declared, when it comes to her cruelty, “I have reserves of creativity I haven’t even begun to tap.”
