Weren't Jeremiah and Barnabas brothers in the 1991 version (as opposed to uncle/nephew), or am I having a '91 version of FDSMS (Faulty Dark Shadows Memory Syndrome)?

You're not suffering from FDSMS, Gerard because you're answer is 100% correct. Making Barnabas and Jeremiah brothers was one of the many changes used for the '91 DS. But then, even on the original series it's mentioned more than once that Barnabas and Jeremiah were as close as brothers, so why not make them such. Doing so even deepens Jeremiah's "betrayal".
