Title: Work those gloves!
Post by: Gothick on April 27, 2006, 05:21:20 PM
Many thanks to MB for today's montage!  The shot of Julia and Cassandra *fiercely* rules, both in the stunning outfits those two glamourpusses are wearing, and how savagely Julia is working that one glove.  Truly swoonworthy!  I love Julia's choice of scarf, and how glamorously she's wearing it.

AND we get the infamous "When will the madness STOP!?" closeup of Julia on the phone.  And we know what comes next; Barnabas yelling through the door "Remember somebody!" followed by Dr Lang muttering "Dave Woodard!"  Too rich.

Dark Shadows '68... ALL Glamour, ALL the time!  Leaves "Project Runway" in the dust, IMNSHO!

Many thanks to MB for today's montage!

I hoped that you and the other Graysonholics would appreciate those captures.  ;)  And so that people will still be able to understand what's being talked about in this topic now that the slideshow has been updated, here they are so that potentially they might be savored forever.  ;D

1968: Ep #480 - After receiving a phone call from Barnabas,
Cassandra's curiousity is piqued when Julia has to cancel their
planned trip for Julia to meet Stokes.

1968: Ep #480 - Unable to let the 'madness go on,' Julia asks the
operator to get her the police quickly.

so true!

no one worked a telephone or a pair of gloves quite like the good doctor.

it's funny how they dabbled in a potential "friendship" between julia and cassandra during the early part of this storyline.we all know how that turned out.

and cassandra's endless array of lime green ensembles was really creamy. :P

And the fade-out of Julia on the phone, pleading hysterically for the operator to connect her to the police, was a classic Friday cliffhanger. Back in '68, viewers had to wait until Monday to find out if Julia had the guts to "stop the madness." Looking back, we're glad she didn't.

I tend to despise the hideous puke green overcoat Julia wore in one of these 1968 episodes.
It was the episode where Julia tells Cassandra that she has "won" when the dream curse seemed to kill Barnabas.
Oh come on! We all know the real reason Julia was working that glove: she was soooo itching to slap that bitch Cassandra with it!

I think we need a new poll:  Is Cassandra, or is she not, hiding a bomb inside that wig?

And, which hairpiece makes Lara Parker look taller?  1968 Cassandra, 1897 Angelique, 1970 PT Angelexis... (I'd be willing to bet the last named takes the cake).

cheers, G.

ROTFLMAO!  Sounds like you've seen Hairspray, the movie!  ;)  Love the bomb in Deborah Harry's wig!  And the fact she forgets about it and it goes off!  LOL!   :D

i laughed because Sam Hall said he didn't like to write cliff hangers with Grayson in them because she was so over the top......REALLLY SAM?    that's what made julia and her other characters work!   (except for PT Julia, she severely underplayed her)

Williw Loomis and julia hoffman is what made me get in to DS.   not that silly stuttering vampire.

As comedy, for you, I guess... I guess you're squarely in the "camp" camp.   It's painful for me to watch, because it goes against everything I ever liked about the character.    The Julia who confronted Barnabas in her own bedroom wouldn't crumble into helpless hysteria.   I appreciate vulnerability, but this was too much.

Funny that this has come up. I was just muttering to retzev the other day that I'd recently been noticing Alexis's lengthy tresses in PT. One day I noticed her hair was shorter than what I had recently seen and it dawned on me totally out of left field that she's a hair hopper! That made me wonder just who was wearing wigs and who wasn't (besides Cassandra, of course)? I also had no idea that Grayson Hall's first do was a wig until I read about it on these boards. Am I blind or just stupid? Or both?[hall2_huh]

Whatever else may be said about the show they certainly did have some really good wigs and falls in use.

There was Trask's widow's peak, which was just painted on, at first... Q's sideburns until he grew real ones.... then shaved them off for the 20th century, despite what he'd done to make them fashionable in the 'present'...
