Title: First DS Alum to be immortalized in a videogame?
Post by: Midnite on January 05, 2006, 08:46:23 PM
So much for his death watch-- Abe Vigoda will appear in the new Godfather game by Electronic Arts.  "The Godfather The Game" is due for an early 2006 release and will be available for XBox, PS2, PC and PSP.  Cost is $49.95.

You can access a screenshot of his game character here:
http://www.ea.com/official/godfather/godfather/us/screenshots.jsp?setID=Underworld
Just navigate to "image 3 of 4" and enlarge the thumbnail.

So when your [age appropriate ;)] kid (or friend or spouse) is playing it, you can announce, "He played really old guys on the original Dark Shadows!"  :D

He also showed up on Conan over the holidays as a Christmas tree.   [ChristmaS15]

He also showed up on Conan over the holidays as a Christmas tree.

Wasn't that absolutely hysterical?!  [santa_grin]  The way they did a complete take-off of the stories of the Rockefeller Center trees being selected and transported to NYC, only with Vigoda as the tree, was so inventive and somehow just slightly sick at the same time. But then, that's the sort of humor that Conan does best.

As for the game, how nice that you videogame geeks will have a new one to rachet up your geekness quotient.  [santa_wink]

Next year, let's all save a tree and string lights around Abe Vigoda instead, lol.

Snort!  You wouldn't happen to be jealous that Abe got a gaming gig before the silver filigree pen? *

* Look up that hysterical post by PennyDreadful if you haven't seen it.  [lghy]

Unfortunately, I doubt all my decorations would fit on him - and I'd hate to have to pick and choose which ones to leave off.  [santa_cry]

Now, now - are you sure that you might not still be jealous that according to the test in this topic:

... The Geek Test (http://www.innergeek.us/geek.html) ...

you're much more geekier than I am - presumably due in large part to the fact that you play videogames and I don't?  [wink2]

Ha!  A CGI videogame version of Abe Vigoda?!  He has entered the electronic age!

I wonder if there's an Abe Vigoda painting hidden in his attic.  He will surely outlive us all.  Well, all except the Pen of course.  The Pen is immortal.

I was shocked, MB.  Shocked, I tell ya!  And as I recall, victoriawinters was even more in touch with her inner geekiness.  :P

LOL, PennyDreadful!

I couldn't resist.  I took the test.  23.2% - Just two points shy of "Total Geek!"  Guess I need to try harder next time.  I was at least hoping for extreme geek!  [santa_thumb]

BTW, DS isn't on there, so therefore it isn't geeky to be into DS.  Right?...right?....  ;)

OMG - I just took the new and improved 3.1 version of the test, I swear I answered completely truthfully, and my score fell from 16.17357%, which it was back in May of 2004, to only 14.20118%, which is only Geekish Tendencies. I'm not even a Geek anymore!  :o  :'(  What am I doing wrong?!  [idontknow]

BTW, DS isn't on there, so therefore it isn't geeky to be into DS. Right?...right?....

Apparently not. But even being into Buffy/Angel, which I don't remember being on the previous version of the test, didn't keep my score from going down. But then again, maybe they think being into Buffy/Angel is cool rather than geeky.  8)

Yikes.  My score shot up to 41.02564%, major geek territory.  I am getting geekier by the minute.  ::)

Wow Midnite this is really good news!  To what do you attribute the increase in your geekdom?

P.S.  I have remained the same.

Where is this test? I want to know if I'm a geek or not.

I must teach you how to count to 31 on one hand.  ;)

I must teach you how to count to 31 on one hand.

You might want to teach me how to do that, too, because I don't have the first clue. Although, I have absolutely no idea why I would ever want to count to 31 on one hand.  :D

The Godfather Computer and Video Games were released today, but EA knocked the price down to $39.99.

I didn't know you could become immortal through a video game.    Characters on DS had so many other methods that they never got around to this one, I guess...

VH1's Best Week Ever had some fun with the video game, especially Abe Vigoda's appearance in it. They showed several clips. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like they're going to be airing it again, and it isn't in the outtakes on their web site. However, you can watch clips of our guy on the official site for the game, here (http://www.ea.com/official/godfather/godfather/us/videos.jsp?setID=Apartment%20Hit&resID=hi). (You'll be asked for your birthdate due to the violent content. Yeah, that'll keep the kids away.  :P )

The segment on Best Week Ever was amusing.  :D  To prove that this isn't really his first videogame appearance, they showed game covers with Vigoda's head superimposed.  It reminded me of CastleBee's hysterical Photoshop creation of Abe as one of the Little Rascals.
