Title: Lyndhurst/Sleepy Hollow
Post by: ClaudeNorth on December 03, 2005, 11:41:18 PM
Just got back from a day trip to Tarrytown, NY.

I posted a few photos at this link:  http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/jcnolan2005/album?.dir=/3b64&.src=ph

Two of the photos are of the receiving vault in the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery that was used as the Collins Family mausoleum in HODS.  There's also one shot of Lyndhurst, one of the carriage house, and a close-up of a brick in the greenhouse.

Lovely photo, Claude.

Were the Christmas decorations up yet at Lyndhurst?  I keep telling people that if you're going to visit, the best time is when the whole place looks like an illustration from "A Christmas Carol".  No, it's not "spooky".....but it is stunning.

That place is wild. A few of us a couple years ago brought John Karlen to Sleepy Hollow. Got some pics of him standing in front of the mausoleum, knocking on the door, and tossing a plastic water bottle ala Willie at the tomb.
How now brown cow? How to post photos here?

I wanted John to recreate the scene where he threw the liquor bottle at the tomb. "What, and have broken glass all over the place???" I handed him a plastic water bottle.

Love the Karlen photos, artist07! I can just imagine how much fun it must have been to have him recreate the scene for you.  [santa_grin]

We had alot of fun with John. He insisted on staying in the cemetary... "I may as well lay down." he said. After he called me a hilbilly for putting ketcup on my eggs, I agreed with him. We had oodles of fun with JK. And he enjoyed Sleepy Hollow very much. The man is a history buff.

Yes, the house is in full Christmas mode.  Each room's decorations are inspired by a different fairy tale.  This is definitely the best time to see it!

Fun photos, but how does one go about getting JK to go to a cemetery?  [santa_grin]

By the way, that vault is just a few steps from Washington Irving's grave.

Thank you for posting the photos, especially of "Our" Brick"

Spotting the brick was an unexpected pleasure.  I had just finished saying to my sister, "I wonder if any DS fans ever bought a brick," when I saw it.

Simple. You don't tell him where you're taking him.
He was a good sport about the whole thing and actually enjoyed himself. We carted him off to where the Old House once stood. He sang us a song about pirates. Way cool time.

Well, it was my good fortune that I was invited along on this outing. It was one of the best times I've ever had. No matter that JK called me a hillbilly when I put ketchup on my scrambled eggs. I spiked his Coca Cola with rum, tole him to go ahead and lay down at the cemetary when he suggested it, went up to him as he was signing autographs and in a German accent said, "Sign ze paper, old man", and got hollered at because I cut in on a conversation he was havinig with one of his favorite fans. He's a pisser for sure.
If you are attending the next Fest, don't be afraid to approach him. He's a hoot and loves attention. Not fawning attention, but real human contact. I love the man. I love Willie too. My fave character.
