On "Mancow's Morning Madhouse" radio show, Raymond "Cowboy Ray" Hofstatter is the resident expert on nutcrackers, cuckoo clocks and "Dark Shadows," a 1960s television series about vampires.

Hofstatter, 45, was crossing South Archer Avenue with three friends about 3:45 a.m. when a driver slammed into him and kept going. Witnesses said the impact sent him flying about 20 feet before he landed on the street. He was in critical condition Sunday night at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

I've been scanning the web for any updates but haven't found any. If anyone in the area listens to that show, please keep us updated. Also, I'd like to hear how Dark Shadows was referenced on the air. Having retired from my weekly radio show in 2003, after 21 years, what I miss doing the most are the Halloween and Christmas shows. My best goes out to him.

Mancow is an incredible jerk, and I may or may not be able to stand listening for news from his show on this. I don't know what station he's on now.

The person who was hit by the car wasn't Mancow, it was a man who was a frequent guest on his radio show, according to the articles I read he was a mentally disabled man who had lots of stories and trivia to share.
It sounds as though he was a nice man that a lot of people cared about. And that someone ran into him with their car and then didn't stop.
I don't think that it would be neccesary to write mean things about someone who had been injured anyway, but the man you think is a jerk isn't the man who is in critical condition.
My prayers will be said for this poor man and his friends and family.
I wish that people would think about how dangerous cars are before they get behind the wheel.

I was fully aware that the injured man is not Mancow. I said nothing the least bit negative about the injured man. I stated that I would find it difficult to listen to Mancow's show to get more information on how the injured man is doing, because Mancow's show is unpleasant to listen to.

None of the local Chicago press accounts that I heard mentioned Raymond being a DS fan. Mancow did offer a $5,000 reward for any information leading to the hit-and-run driver.
