Title: oh my god, Oh My God, OH MY GOD!!
Post by: Mysterious Benefactor on November 12, 2005, 02:47:17 AM
In Ep #100, Carolyn actually has a phonograph in her room!

And while it might not be a TV, OMG - it IS an actual electrical entertainment device other than a radio. And it almost certainly means that at some point in her life Carolyn actually played real records in her room!!  :o

Who knew such a thing had ever been possible??!!  :D

Thank you for the visual, MB.  I never noticed it before.  It gave me a flashback-- I had a record player just like that.  :D

Okay, MB and Midnight---you might wish to explain--for our younger friends on the board--exactly what a phonograph (aka record player) is.  I only say this because three or four years ago I went to Best Buy in search on a "turntable."  The display example did not have a stylus (needle), so I asked the very young salesboy to open one of the Sony turntable boxes, with the promise that if it included a needle I would buy it.  We went to the front of the store (where those guys hang around checking receipts) and the kid opened the box and I showed him the stylus/needle and his reply was: "oh, so that's what a record player looks like"!  Despite his lack of knowledge, I bought the turntable--but I was still in shock that a salesperson at an electronics store wouldn't know what a turntable/phongraph/record player was.

Of course, I have friends who stop by and are in awe of my Akai reel-to-reel tape deck, but that's another story.  LOL.

Whoah!  A previously unnoticed electronic "entertainment" device in Collinwood!  She must have found it in the Parallel Time room!   ;)

far out!

i wonder if those songs carolyn rocked out to at the blue whale in the early episodes were available on vinyl.
it's nice to picture a young caroyln practicing the "frug" and the "twist" in her room.

so true about the lack of modern electronics at collinwood.as i recall the kitchen had neither a stove or a refridgerator. ::)

Of course, but unlike some of the younger members, I know what it is and how to work it. They're so much fun! :)

If you're like me, you may have paniced immediately upon noticing that in the first screen capture from Ep #101 the phonograph is no longer on the top of Carolyn's bureau  (:o):

But fear not, for apparently between the time Carolyn revealed to Roger that she had told Vicki all about THE PEN in Ep #100 and remaining oblivious to Roger's panic before he begins to question her about the incident in Ep #101, Carolyn felt the need to move the phonograph to its own table by the door:

I'm guessing that Carolyn suddenly remembered that she was getting too many cramps in her arms from having to lift them too high to put her records on the phonograph.  [b003]

wierd.

if i remember correctly the episode took place during that very brief and very weird moment when the possiblity of a 'romance' between roger and vicki was being tossed about. [rleyeb]
