Title: DS in new issue of Toyfare
Post by: PennyDreadful on September 29, 2005, 03:07:53 PM
The November issue of Toyfare Magazine (#99) is a pupular toy & action figure magazine.  In their "Incoming" section on page 28, there are some nice pictures of the new Majestic Studios DS figures, and a nice blurb about the show.  Although they mistakenly refer to Quentin as Barnabas' "brother."  They have this mag at most bookstores like Barnes & Noble and Borders.  Here's what it says...

----

Dark Shadows
By: Majestic Studios
Release Date: October

Before Buffy, X-Files and Smallville, there was Dark Shadows.  For those of you still in the dark (pun intended), Dark Shadows featured vampires, werewolves and other supernatural freaks on a weekly basis from 1966 to 1971, and now Majestic Studios is resurrecting the nearly 40-year-old show with two 12-inch figures of lead character and vampire Barnabas Collins and one of his werewold brother Quentin.  If these figures aren't enough to make you want to watch the show, then boy, you're missing some fine television.

-----

Looking at the closeup of 1795 Barnabas, I see they gave him regular shoes instead of boots which is a little disappointing.  Maybe it's just for the prototype though.

Thanks for the info. :-)  My boyfriend's roommate writes for Toyfare. I'll make sure that he finds out about the error.

THANKS for the update. I preordered those at the LA show this year and was beginning to wonder whatever happened to them. It had worried me they still don't appear on the Majestic Toys website. Some of their linked sites like "Monsters in Motion" are taking preorders. I bet they are disappointed that David Selby won't be at Chiller, as I bet they will have them there by then.

Some sources indicated they'd be out it November, so it might still be another month.  Hopefully they'll be out by Halloween.   I pre-ordered mine from Wicked Collectibles.  Majestic Studios hasn't updated their website in a while for some reason.

I found a store about twenty minutes from where I live that's going to get them in, so when they're shipped I'll have a set waiting for me. I hope I get them before Halloween, too, because they would make a lovely birthday present to myself. :)

I don't think the website's been updated since before their first Battlestar Galactica figures were released, but they do respond to emails/comments. I wish they would release pictures of the packaging. Usually this late in the game, more details are available.

Yes, they've been pretty quiet about the whole thing.  I'm also curious to see what they have in store with regards to the busts and statues.

Maybe they will release more about the busts and statues after they release this first set of 12 inch figures. They may be waiting to see how well the figures do. I think it's possible we don't hear much news of Majestic because it's a newer company. I would like to hear what they have planned for a second series of figures as well.

Hmmm... According to this website the figures are coming out in January 2006.  I wonder why the date keeps changing on these?  A Halloween release would have been perfect!  [hall2_rolleyes]

I'm getting really frustrated by the changing release dates, but I do think it was odd that only a couple places had them up for preorder. Now when I do a search, four or five stores have them for preorder, most listed them as "shipping in January".  I don't expect to have them before the first of the year, which frankly depresses me.

I'm keeping an eye on the Majestic Studios website because I've been told that they're revamping it, so it should be updated in the near future. I've emailed them about the figures but I haven't gotten a response yet. They do usually respond to emails.

I've been waiting for these for too long, my patience is growing thin. I was so disappointed when I saw them listed for Jan. I wish Majestic would give a definite date.

[hall_undecided] I have emailed Majestic recently as well, but haven't received a reply either. As I said elsewhere, I'm going to Chiller next week. I'll be interested to see if they have a table there and what the word is. I will be happy to post any news after the show.

I too am patiently waiting for DS figurines to arrive.  But no.  Everytime the date gets nearer to the date on the calandar...they bump it up a couple months.   [hall_angry]

And CyrusL, forget about emailing them.  They never answer.  At least not to me and apparently you too.

The delays are definitely annoying.  CyrusL, I look forward to hearing about your adventures at Chiller.  Please do let us know if Majestic has a table.

So, Barnabas'sBride...when is your birthday?

(I checked CE/A & the Calendar)....

Oops...must not have put it in there. October 27th...same day as Lara Parker.  [hall2_smiley]

Cyrus, hopefully you'll find out something!

Am I the only person that's ever gotten an email from Majestic? They've answered me twice before. I emailed them in the spring and was told the figures would be out in the fall (now). That was the last email they responded to. I emailed them a couple of weeks ago because of the delay.

Barnabas'sBride, they responded to an email I sent them in August 2004.  I copied it below.  I emailed them once or twice since then and they never replied.  Also, I never received any "Dark Shadows announcements."   [hall2_rolleyes]  I know this company makes some nice figures though, as I have seen the Munsters series they put out.  They just seem pretty quiet lately.  Were they even at ToyFair or SDCC this year?  I don't think they were.

I've never received any announcements either....  [hall_huh] I've seen their Battlestar Galactica and thought they were well done. Very much in the same vein as Sideshow with the packaging and such. I don't think they were at Toyfair. The delays they've had could be because of they're a smaller company. It seems like they've pushed back every series they've released once.

I just wish they would give us an actual date. I've read from November thru February. Maybe they'll get back to us?
