And in honor of DS' 39th, a new forum feature will debut at 4pm ET (the time that the very first DS episode made its debut ;)).

According to the DS Almanac, DS debuted at 4:00pm, then it moved to 3:30 on April 2, 1967, and then back to 4:00 on July 15, 1968. ;) (Though, of course, many stations aired it at various other times. For instance, for a time it was shown at 2:30pm in Boston, MA and at 8:30am(:o) in Providence, RI.)

MB, I'm just loving the anniversary slide show!
If anybody asks you why you created it, you can arch an eyebrow and intone: "Because I CHOOSE to do so!"
birthday hugs, G.

Hmmm - there's an idea. But I would never steal that line from Dom. [b003]
As for the slideshow, a new one will apear every day from now on up until June 26, 2006 as the forum anticipates DS' 40th. The slideshows coincide with the listings in the "history" boxes which now appear in the forum's header sections. More on all this will be posted on the Testing board shortly...

We were visiting my grandparents in Georgia on the day the first episode of DS aired; I remember watching it and being spooked by the music. When we got back home to Virginia, we found, sadly, that the local ABC affiliate wasn't carrying it, and I was pretty well disappointed. For the next three years, I was able to catch the show only sporadically -- when we visited my grandparents and when I visited friends who were lucky enough to have cable back then and could pick up a channel that carried it.
It's amazing how well I remember the disappointment of coming home from Georgia and Mom flipping the channels for me to try to find DS, only in vain. Ah well... I guess it's all worked out OK in the end. ;)

as i said i would i watched episode one...and then kept watching for hours.i hadn't really seen these early episodes in years and forgot how engaging they were.totally different show.
it was so overwrought!and how quaint that the biggest threat that faced these people at the time was burke devlin.mitch ryan had quite a swagger.
alexandra moltke photographs beautifully in black and white but in these episodes she's given a really frumpy look.and gum-chomping,wise-cracking,wig-wearing maggie at the diner was almost more than i could take!
early crew-cut joe haskell was really a hunk-a-rama.i didn't notice it the first time around but bill malloy had a certain gruff charm as well.i can see how mrs.j got worked up.
for those who haven't seen these on video they leave the original commercials in episode one.they're a scream.i know the "sunshine rinso" jingle by heart. ::)

I can't believe that it was 39 years ago when I saw the trailer for DS after watching some show preceding it (I don't remember what it was anymore) and decided to see what this thing with the spooky music in the promo was all about. I've never looked back.

The first episode i watched was when i was over at aunts and uncles after school.. My aunt say "lets watch Dark Shadows" i had heard of the show, but never seen it... Here is this kid, looking like he has been locked in some sort of block building, hollering and carrying on, with a coffin in the center of the room...I got to thinking "what the heck have i been missing" ;D Happy Birthday DS!
-
