Title: Wikipedia entry for DS
Post by: Gothick on June 22, 2005, 05:35:02 PM
Today, I finally had time to read a Wikipedia entry a friend had linked to in his LJ.  I checked a couple of other topics in the site, and then decided to see whether they have an entry on DS.  Voila:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_Shadows

They mention finding master tapes for our show in a warehouse in LA.  I wonder whether the color version of the introduction of Natalie and Angelique in 1795 will turn out to be among them?  That excites me far more than poor Bramwell's marriage to Daphne.

Did you see the entry for Grayson? They say that one of the roles she played was that of Hoffman, a butler.  :o

It's always nice to see Art Wallace get the credit he deserves:

The original story bible, "Shadows on the Wall," came from the creative partnership of writer Art Wallace and television producer Dan Curtis. However, Wallace deserves the credit for establishing the Collins family and its mysterious relationship to Victoria Winters, who became the family governess, after she graduated from the orphanage .

I use Wikipedia quite often but I never thought to look up DS.  Thanks for posting the link Gothick.  It was a pretty good entry.  I am excited about the master tapes they found in LA.  Hopefully the missing ep, and color versions of the kiniscopes will be in there.

Sorry guys, there is no truth in the master tape haul mentioned on that site whatsoever. Wishful thinking all around, unfortunately.

Aw that's a bummer. :(  Thanks for setting the record straight Stuart.  Hopefully the missing episode and the color masters will turn up some day.

I have a couple of problems with this piece.
First the characterization of Willie Loomis (John Karlen) as a small-time thief and mentally-disabled drifter. I take exception to the term mentally-disabled. Willie may not have been in the league of Proffesor Stokes but he did successfully present logical arguments to Barnabas to prevent him from doing more harm. Specificly he persuaded Barnabas not to out right kill Burk like he did with Jason since no one missed Jason because he was ordered to leave town but that Burk would be missed and people may come to the Old house and find his coffen while looking for a missing Burk.

And speaking of Burk or rather Jerimiah; the article calles him Barnabas' brother when in actuallity he was his uncle. Also incorrectly states that Barnabas kills Angelique and shen she turns him into a vampire. When it was because she thought she was going to die that she cursed him but she recovered and it was after he became a vampire that he killed her.
and where did they come up with the warehouse info that Stuart debunked???

One can edit Wikipedia to correct the incorrect information.  That is why it is called, "Wiki".  So, get editing!  There is an "edit" tab at the top of the page.  Click on that.  I already changed "butler" to "housekeeper" on Grayson Hall's.  If you are going to really make "big" changes copy and paste it first to a word processing file so you can spell check, etc. first before re-posting it.  This way you can't make the oopsie of entirely deleting the entry.  I leave the rest to you.

I hadn't read this post after I clicked on Grayson's entry, and I was about to quote one of the previous topics about it saying "butler." XD Anyways, good save. :)

I was mostly referring to the old group edit.  I wasn't pointing to anyone person to do it all themselves.  Everyone has different aspects of Dark Shadows they know about.  I figure no one person is going to edit the entire thing.  It can also be edited in sections.

We could as a group certainly get rid of the worst of the inaccuracies for now.

I've been favorably impressed with Wikipedia entries, but I had no idea that just anyone could edit the articles!  I thought there must be some safeguards in place whereby someone had to prove their credentials ... what's to stop some prankster or ill-informed person from distorting facts or deliberately introducing errors?  Some of the "reviewers" on imdb and amazon are bad enough (though there are plenty of very well-informed and intelligent posts on those sites, too) ...

They'd be edited again I'm sure by someone!

That's true - but in the interim it wouldn't prevent the people who are unfamiliar with a particular listing from coming away with completely errorneous info. Like Vlad, I can see all sorts of potential problems in the way Wikipedia's system operates.  :-
