Title: Yet Another Mention Of DS
Post by: Mysterious Benefactor on May 22, 2005, 05:29:23 PM
The Maine setting of HBO's Empire Falls seems to be yet another excuse for the Boston Globe to mention DS (and who are we to complain?  ;)):

"Empire Falls" is only the latest in a long line of Maine movies and television series. TV often seems to take a gleeful interest in Maine's darker side, whether in the comedy-leavened homicide of "Murder, She Wrote" or the camp vampirism of "Dark Shadows." Or, of course, there's always USA's version of Stephen King's "The Dead Zone."

If you're interested in the depiction of Maine in film, check out the entire article: The lost woodsmen of the north (http://www.boston.com/news/globe/living/articles/2005/05/22/the_lost_woodsmen_of_the_north/)

Why do these articles insist on calling DS "camp"?   >:(  You never hear them say the "campy 'Dracula' of Christopher Lee" or "The campfest known as 'Bride of Frankenstein.'"  Like those films, DS is not camp.  60s Batman is camp.  Ah well.  At least they mentioned DS at all.  That's pretty cool.

I'm wondering....Did Dark Shadows get this much "mention" while it was actually on the air?

Suddenly it's as though DS is the new black!!

As someone who used to comb practically every magazine for the least little mention of DS, I really don't think so. There were hundreds of articles that were specifically centered around DS in one way or another, be it the show itself or the actors. But very rarely was DS ever referenced in articles that were about totally different shows or subjects. What's been going on in the last two years has been especially unique.

Now if only we could take all this "mention" and turn it into "buzz"   The Entertainment Industry lives and dies by "buzz"..... ::)
