Title: Illustrations, dahlings
Post by: Heather on May 20, 2005, 05:09:23 PM
Yes, me again.  ::)  ;) I hesitated to post this, but what the hey; here's a couple illustrations I did recently....

The first one caused a bit of a stir... :D I had to readjust my design so it wouldn't offend some  at...the place of higher learning. ;) Its an illustration of a scene from the book "The End of The Road..."

No, wait...hear me out...  ;D

[cough] Now granted, I did a Briscoe-esque Jake instead of Keach but...what the hell. Looking at it now, it kinda chokes me up (well, especially  after a long, *long* week.) However you could also see at it as a wild night at Chris' cottage I suppose...whatever floats your boat, or whatnot. Interpret me, baby!  lol Well this isn't the best scan (this stuff always looks better in "Real life". Freakin' technology... ;)) Anyhoo, this was done in guache, pastels and colored pencils:

Yes, he's a just a TAD more ripped than he actually was but...you don't mind, do ya boys? Hope not. ;) lol

And these were done in Illustrator (the foreground image that is, including the profile shot; starry background done in photoshop)--just some vector art that took what seemed like *forever*...  :P

And a close-up (hey, at least I drew her from the left side this time, instead of a three-quarter right hand view...) ;)

All I can say is: thank goddess its Friday!

Hugs,

Absolutely wonderful,  Heather.....I would hang that image on a wall just for the sheer joy of seeing that hair!!  The combination of the brilliant color and the technique of the swirled design is amazing to me.  I think Ms. Hall would be delighted.  ;)

The images won't show up for me, damn it.  Not in IE or Netscape.  Why oh WHY can't I have at least ONE day with no computer problems??   >:(

Is that a rhetorical question?  I don't know.

You're not the only one, Connie. I'm getting an alert that img.photobucket.com can't be found. There must be some sort of problem going on at Photobucket's site.  :(

Now this is depressing...everything was fine a little while ago.  :(

Gee....how lucky for me that I saw it in time!!

Just kidding!.......I can swear that it was there....and it has to show back up again at some point, doesn't it?  Just be patient.....it's well worth the wait!!

Well, now they ARE showing up!

And they're gorgeous!  Thanks for sharing.

The one for End of the Road is so clever... love the bottle!

I think Briscoe would have made an excellent Jake!

Ah...at last.  [thumb]

I don't know anything about Jake, but I still think they would have made a wonderful Ben and Mrs. Robinson.

I notice what looks like a symbol of sorts on Grayson's back.  IS it anything?  Or have I been reading too much Dan Brown lately?

Please pardon attachment.  In addition to my email not working, I can't access my webspace.   ???

Gosh...many thanks everyone. You're all too kind! I honestly wasn't sure what anyone would think, so...thanks for the feedback. :-*

Me too hon...thanks.  :-*  And the bottle was my favorite part! Wonder what that says about me... LOL

Hiya Connie.  [wave]  Hmm...very interesting. What kind of symbol do you see exactly?  Me curious...I love dissecting my artwork like I do fanfic (been known to post oddly elaborate responses to stories on the JuliaList, that's all I meant. ;))
I don't think I meant for it to represent anything per say...more a slight accident while rendering the top portion of her spine/back area more than anything else (BTW, that particular piece was intended to be more stylized/not extra picture perfect... eh, I try ).  lol
But if you have a theory I'm all ears! IMHO, One of the great things about art is that you can find meaning in the artist's intent and beyond that intent, or sometimes find whole new meanings -- all a matter of perspective, and whatnot....if any of that makes any sense. [scratch]   [8285] lol   :-*

Love the Grayson portrait.  I always loved her short doo.  Short and sassy!

I dunno - resembles the symbol for female, or the astrological glyph for Venus.

Theory??  [lghy]  Not a one.

Ya know, that profile is quite something.  I love it.
You should send it to Matt Hall or something.  I betcha he'd like it.

Thanks, luv, for posting this link... I noticed Connie's comment (I think I must have missed it originally) and went back to look.

The way you showed the "sculpting" of Grayson/Peggy's back bears a strong resemblance to a symbol commonly used today by Witches and Neo Pagans for the Great Goddess in Her aspect as the "Triple Goddess," specifically with lunar associations--the two back-to-back C's (often drawn with a circle in the middle) are signs for the waxing and waning Moon.

Pure serendipity, but, given that some of us routinely refer to GH as "the Divine One," don't you think?

Thanks for the info, dear...when one gets as involved in the creative process as I tend to get, one can start in in one place and end up in another, all the while having that "vision" of what you want to see come to life in the back of your head (if that makes any sense - lol.) Sometime little twists and turns can end up becoming happy accidents that, when you step back, can enrichen a work (depending on how you interpret it, or what you want to say/express in the piece), other times it can lead to less pleasant things (don't get me started on the interesting moments I've had the fortune (or misfortune) to experience during serious critiques...)

Anyway - a case of "divine" inspiration, G? ;)
