Title: Moments/People That Make You Wanna Kick the TV In
Post by: dvlvan26 on May 19, 2005, 05:56:48 PM
Good Day to All!

I have to go to my boyfriend's father's funeral today :'(. I still am watching him and his unrealistic thinking that I love to blow off, LOL. ^-^

Okay, enough about me.

Please name a charcter, scene, moment, and/or other aspects of DS that made you so angry that you just wanted to kick the TV in. >:(

Examples: Carolyn's bratty moods, Vicki in 1795, Leviathans Story Line, certain actors who more or less can act, etc.

I will be back on these boards tomorrow,

Love, dvlvan26 who is on summer hiatus from college and always job-hunting :)

Joshua's behavior towards Naomi, specifically when it came to his sister OVER his wife >:(

Forbes' behavior towards Millicent >:(

I'll think of more. Dvlvan, I'm very sorry :'(

I always got angry when Barnabas was trying to make Maggie in Josette. I always thought he was crazy thinking he could change someones personality. Another thing that makes me angry is the last episode of DS doesn't really wrap up the show very well. These are just my opinions though.

Barnabas....Every time he appears on screen, from the opening of the casket to the day they shipped Willie Loomis off to Wyndcliffe.  After that he just wasn't worth the ulcer I was getting. [vryevl].

Beth.....She not only tolerated abuse, she went in search of it.  I kept expecting her to throw herself on the floor so someone could wipe his shoes on her dress. I found her scenes with Quentin unbearable to watch.  She was about as badly conceived a character as there ever was on DS, in my opinion.

But that's just me...... [disgust]

- When Willie was sent to Wyndcliff
- Victoria in 1795 and the character's downward spiral after that
- When Angelique destroyed Barnabas and Josette's relationship
- Adam, Dr. Lang, Nicholas Blair and the experiment
- Quentin & Amanda
- Barnabas and the Leviathans
- Megan & Phillip at the antique shop
- The Leviathan storyline in general
- Barnabas & Angelique at the end of 1840
- 1841 PT: the last storyline of the show
- the way the show rarely let a couple have an actual relationship for more than a few episodes
- the fact that they never explored who Victoria is
- the way they drop storylines so suddenly in favor of others without a good wrap up or transition

This oughta be fun. I'll just respond before I look at any one else's answers and see how we match up later. :p Warning. Everything in here will be spoilage, so keep out if you haven't seen the first half of DS.

1.) Joe Haskell and his over-protective boorish behavior in the presence of Willie Loomis in defense of Maggie. Granted all evidence pointed in Willie's direction that he was indeed the one who kidnapped Maggie, but I thought he was a jerk anyway for punching Willie in the gutt.
2.) During the Maggie kidnapping storyline, MAGGIE WALKED RIGHT BY THE DOOR and down to the basement when she was going to offer Willie the jewels in exchange for her escape. She could have left right then and no one would have been the wiser! Door locked from the inside? Jump out a window! Geez!
3.) No one listened to David Collins.
4.) Willie getting shot just before he went to Wyndcliffe. Poooooor baby!!!
5.) Julia's irreparable habit of dangling her little medallion in the face of those who held the memory that Barn was an A**H***. Sorry to be so blunt. :) At least I censored it.
6.) Two words: "willie beater"
7.) When Barnabas acted like ever the perfect citizen when Willie was implicated for Mag's kidnapping. And of course he was oblivious...
8.) Tom Jennings never got naked.
9.) Alexandra Moltke left the show.
10.) And last but certainliy not least: Magtoria

The one Character I honestly did not care for was Horace Gladstone >:D he was such a pushy type man who only seemed to be sticking his nose in what was clearly not his business... I felt Gladstone got his just rewards when he was done in.  ^-^

When Barnabas declared that the dying Angelique was his one true love. Sorry, Angelique/Barn fans, but I just don't buy it. Never did, never will.

I agree with you 100%

Another moment when I wanted to kick the TV was when Charity Trask staked Barnabas, because I thought that he was gone for good.

Yeah - me neither.  What a crock.

Anyway, the mockery of justice that was the trial of 1840 Quentin.  And Trask's participation in it.

 :P    :P    :P    :P    :P   AND   :P

(No wonder -- the idiot judge turned out to be Dr. Lang)  lol

::applauds:: That was just ridiculous. Hi! You contributed to the death of half my family AND my beloved long-sought after fiancee. But I STILL LOVE YOU! What a joke. Now that's a rating's ploy if I"ve ever seen one. ~DJ

I just never cared at all for any of Marie Wallace's characters.

With Megan and Phillip...besides the Leviathan factor (though that's more than enough, to be honest - ugh)  it's more of "Who are these people, and why am I supposed to care about them?" sort of thing. I just wanted them to get off my screen so I could get back to the characters that I actually cared about.

I agree wholeheartedly... I have always felt Barnabas' only true love was always.. Josette.

I can't believe that a post concerning violent feelings felt brought on by irritation didn't remind someone of our beloved hair touching dude.  Come to think of it, I don't think I'd bother kicking in the screen over RD and his fetish - but I might roll my eyes and smack the remote.

(I haven't been around in awhile - hope all are doing well!)  :D

Well, seeing him do that doesn't make me want to kick the TV in - but a certain episode in which he touches his hair over 20 times does make me want to kick him.  ::)

I've always held a feeling that Dan Curtis held a grudge against Alexandra Moltke for becoming pregnant and leaving the show halfway through her five-year contract.  First he recasts 'Vicki' with that horrible Betsy Durkin (I've always called her "Betsy-Wetsy" for her onscreen hysterics- I didn't kick the screen in, but I slapped it about a few times!), then during the Leviathan storyline he (with Hall & Russell) had her bumped off by Jeb Hawkes offscreen, ruining the happy ending that was created in the 1796 return with Carolyn Groves as Vicki.  (Ironically, Ms. Groves was an Alexandra lookalike who should've been put under contract- in her few days of episodes she brought Vicki back to life, something that Betsy failed to do in several WEEKS of episodes!)

Like so many here on this board, I too wanted to kick the screen during Barnabas' 'declaration of love' to Angie's  rotting corpse in 1840- "my only love", my ass!  This guy's spent nearly 200 years mooning over Josette (not to mention chasing after Maggie/Vicki/ 2 Roxannes/Rachel)  while despising the bitch who killed his uncle/sister/mother through different eras.  So she got plugged by Lamar Trask- good riddance- and suddenly Barnabas says 'I take it all back'???

Worse yet, poor Julia had to wach it all!  At least there's one consolation: with Vicki, Roxanne, and Angelique dead (and Maggie in Wyndecliffe), Julia will FINALLY have Barnabas all to herself!

i just recently watched alexandra moltke's final episodes and i didn't so much want to kick the t.v. in as throw myself across it and weep! ;)

i never thought about dan curtis holding a grudge against her.i got the impression he must have cast betsy durkin out of sheer desperation.it was obvious from these episodes that her departure was extremely abrupt.there was no sense of finality to them.vicki stormed into the house, ran up the stairs, exchanged words with julia and that was it.ms.durkin premiered only three episodes later with scripts that were probably already written for alexandra.there must have been virtually no time to audition new actresses.

b.t.w. i haven't watched ms.durkins episodes yet...but i'm sensing a kick-the-t.v. moment coming.i'm so smitten with ms.moltke i can't imagine anyone else playing victoria. :P

Considering what a big Alexandra Moltke fan you are, I think it's definitely gonna be time to invest in a new TV when Betsy Wetsy shows up.  She really can't hold a candle to Alexandra Moltke.
As for Curtis killing off Vicki during the Leviathan sequence, I don't think that's all there was to that.  I've heard he really wanted her back on the show at that point and that the murder was part of a plotline they were developing to bring her back.  This is just my conjecture but maybe, like Peter, she would have been a ghost haunting Jeb and would have eventually come back to life in the present somehow.  Unfortunately, Alexandra didn't want to return to the show, so they had to drop the storyline even though they had already started it with the whole Peter Bradford thing.
When they were going to use Carolyn's life force to bring Eve to life, and Adam was - as always - giving everyone orders and making a bunch of threats.

I was about ready to eject the DVD at that point.  I can't stand Adam in the first place, and that was really the high point of his intolerability.

I wanted to kick the tv when Julia saw Barnabas kissing Roxanne.  No really I wanted to kick Barnabas up side the head.  I mean damn he was so clueless.  I love him though, but damn that man was dense.lol

Two things come to mind:

Whenever Adam threatened to kill Vicki and the Collins family....(really got old after awhile)

Whenever Jason threatened Liz (now Jason could be quite a charming villian but he never lets us forget how rotten he truly is when he intimidates poor Liz into letting him have his own way).

That Victoria's parentage was never revealed. I kept waiting for that....and waiting....and waiting....
