Title: Maine Mansion Built in 1795

This will likely be my only post until May, but I came across this recently and wanted to share it here.

The following link is to a mansion built on mid-coast Maine in 1795!

It bears no resemblance inside or out to Collinwood, but it could easily be seen as a model for the Old House.

I recommend taking the tour, and especially viewing photographs of the Main Hall/Entry, the Staircase landing, the kitchen, and the bedrooms.  Also check out the dining room for a hint at what the one in the Old House might have looked like!

The Fort where I work was named after Henry Knox.

Thank you for sharing this link. I have been looking for information on what a mansion in Maine built in the 1790's would look like. This sure is a beautiful house.

What a nice article. I hope to visit Maine someday and will certainly have a look at the area. Totally unrelated to this particular mansion in Maine, I was watching Ask This Old House today.  The project they were working on was building an outdoor ice rink for which to play hockey on.  In the back of the house was a small green house with white window trim that reminded me so much of Rose Cottage located at Lyndhurst. There were a lot of trees around and the men working working with snow flurries blowing around.

      I loved the pictures of the Henry Knox Mansion.  I try to decorate my house with vintage wallpaper and colored trim.  I hope to see this house some time this summer.  I would also like to see the house Arashi mentioned.   If it is an Inn, they probably would have a brochure.
    There is an Inn in Vermont called the 1811 House that was built in the 1770.  When I stayed there in 1981, I had not seen Dark Shadows since I was a child but it reminded me of the "Old House".  It is a classic colonial era home but very expensive to stay in.  No children are allowed.  The Inn is located in the village of Manchester, VT.  I hope to go see the Inn that Arashi mention in Belfast, ME.
