when elizabeth had something serious to say to someone she closed the drawing room doors behind her and leaned against them with her hands on the doorknobs.

this gesture meant "liz means business".

Angelique constantly flutters her eyelashes when she's talking, especially when she's making some impassioned plea to Barnabas.

Nancy Barrett (and all of her characters) sticks out her tongue a lot.

Thayer David's characters (e.g. Prof. Stokes and Count Petofi) often stand Napoleon style (with his arm bent and a hand pressed to his stomach.)

Magda's sneer. . . very unJulia-like . . .

Vicki pulling at her charm bracelet.  (Alexandra Moltke said she had a St. Christopher medal on it, and whenever she got nervous, fearing she'll especially miss or flub a line, she would tug at it.)

Willie Loomis would rub the back of his neck with one hand whenever he was trying to reason/argue/plead with Barnabas.

"I'll make tea."

"I'll have Mrs. Johnson make tea."

Liz's stock answer during a crisis when Liz can't come up with an answer during a crisis.

taking a page out of the Diana Millay "how to be a DS evil chick" guide, no doubt.  Her constant blinking drove me nuts during the Phoenix storyline.

Maggie nervously clutching at her hair especially during the time of her ordeal with the Vampire.
Whenever the going got tough for Roger, he'd pour himself a brandy.

It's so cute how they always say "I MUST" or "You MUST."  A couple of fans and I talked about that during the Festival last year.  You hear that line on DS but I never hear that in what is rather hysterically called "real life."

Maggie's touching her face, ie hand over mouth, hands against cheeks and/or temples. Nervous Nellie.

Liz's dead-pan face occassionally, when she was talking down to someone.

Mrs. Johnson's hand waving, "Oh no, I'm not having any part of that, oh no!"

Yeah - Barnabas was always big on that - telling everyone what they MUST do.  (Willie & Julia in particular)
Also, did you ever notice when someone asks him to explain - what or why - he never has time?  LOL
"I can't explain it right now."  "I don't have time to explain."  Very busy guy - has a lot on his mind.

MANNERISMS:

Julia:  Her gasp.
Raises the back of her hand to the vicinity of her face, elbow sticking out horizontally.
Naturally, Magda does the same thing.

When she's talking to Barnabas, she precedes the sentence with his name twice.
"Barnabas.....Barnabas what are we going to do?"

Quentin:  Wets his lips a lot, particularly if he has to kiss someone in the next 30 seconds.
I must have about 3000 captures of him with his tongue out.  [crazy]

Barnabas:  Always holds his hands in front of him as if he's about to commence with a recitation.
(Either that, or he's preparing to break out into an aria from Tosca)

 ;D

Ah, that's because she's trying to get Barnabas AND little Barnabas' attention...if ya know what I mean.  [naughty]
Well, Ya know it's his other brain doin' most of the thinking when he's pining after SYT's younger than I am... ;D  ::)  LOL

LOL, Connie. [wave] He also worried his ring now and then (twirling it around...not too obviously though). ;)

Julia would also say "Tell me--" often enough (gotta have her say that and gasp at least once in certain bits of fanfic...but i digress... ;))
She'd also purse her lips quite often:

(well, maybe that's not the best example, but...ya know)  :-*

And occasionally she'd do this lip-pout (that I think Magda did too... tilt of the head, jut out that chin in either a thoughtful pose or pout defiantly at the schmuck in front of you kinda look?  :D)  Does anyone know what I'm talking about? LOL

Or there was the 'don't you DARE give me that shit' look:

And of course her occasional evil smiles during awkward situations were priceless:

I just love the close-ups of her expressive gestures on the show...{squeal}  I could go on ALL day, I tell ya.

Obsessively yours,

Heather   ^-^

Heather, those captures are PRICELESS!  I loaned some tapes to a friend years ago and I remember he came back and was pursing his lips into a round O and saying it was GH's standard reaction to EVERYTHING.  made me giggle.

I love the grumpy pout.  I could watch Grayson forever... sigh.

btw, we boys don't really appreciate our family jewels being referred to as "Little"... AHEM!

J:  We MUST....in whatEVER way we CAN!!

Dum, dum, dummmmmmm.

That's my post for the day.  [nut]

I always remember Julia twisting her gloves.  I don't remember any of the other ladies even wearing gloves.  I thought it added a classy touch to Julia's character(strong but still the lady).

Julia does have the BEST facial expressions!!  Her nose flares up in the earlier episodes when she's demanding that Barnabas NOT see Vicki!!  She's a hoot.
