Hello Cousins!
I am doing much better.
Please name of the things and/or characters that you love about DS.
Have A Great Day :)

The characters I liked in Dark Shadows were Barnabus Collins, Amy Jennings, Chris Jennings, Tom Jennings and Joe Haskell.
-
I love to watch Barnabas and Angelique together. When they're together on screen, you can feel the excitment. They say these terrible things to each other, but really, they don't mean it. [Witch_Potion_Animated] [blackbat]

All the wackiness!
Terry308--what do you mean .Angie didn't mean it when she helped engineer the deaths of his family and fiancee?? wow what a shock! And he didn't mean it when he set her on fire? [9251] [9251]

Gothic mystery--spooky old house, young governess, strange family.
Interesting and original characters like Willie, Julia, Vicky, David, Quentin. 8)
-
lots and lots to love...but it's a certain raven-haired governess that really makes me swoon. [love10]
-
Lets see, things I loved about DS...
Vicki, Barnabas, the werewolf, Caroline, Liz, Maggie, 1970PT, and just all the weirdness of the show
-
To this day, the DS theme music just thrills me. Okay, down girl! I loved the decrepit charm of the Old House, Eagle Hill Cemetery, the chemistry between Barnabas and Julia and the humanization of both. The scenes between Drs. Woodard and Hoffman were splendid (the shock of Dave's death was dulled by the fact that another actor played the role at the time). The ghosts of Quentin and Gerard. Vampire Tom Jennings attacking what appeared to be a VERY willing Julia. Every time Angelique was destroyed was always a good day for me! ;D Every time Angelique reappeared had me running my fingers through my hair (like a certain DS actor) and muttering "here we go again". Barnabas when he was BAD and the whole Josette kidnapping storyline. Actually, too many to list. The fact that we are even discussing this forty years later says volumes about DS. It's immortal!

Other then the obvious things like Frid and Vickie, I'm very enamored with the secret rooms. Especially when it seems to storm all the time making outside play difficult, it's a child's paradise having so many secret rooms to play in with costumes and dolls, etc. [bow] [crazy]
Congratulations Terry 308 on your Sr. status. [clap]
luv, victoriawinters

Each person's memory of a unique TV show that's still fun to talk about all these years later. Oh, and Don Briscoe.... and Grayson Hall... and Frid, and Alexandra, and Joan Bennett, and the stories, the music, the suspense..... ah, heck, what's not to love?!
-
Actually, I love almost everything about the show - the complex characters, the suspenseful, creative and wacky storylines...the talented actors, hunks and goddesses that make the show great to watch again and again and *again*.... :D
And might I add, last but NOT least, the intelligent, thoughtful and wonderfully wicked people I've come to know and consider friends, all because of my obsession...er...healthy interest... in this fascinating show. ;D :-* :-*

Willie's unrequited love for Maggie Evans.
He never gets it right. She never returns his affection. He suffers the tortures of the damned, but he never stops loving her, or trying to protect her....usually at his own peril.
I was in my early teens during the first run of the show......I frequently wanted to smack him in the head for that relationship.....but I always hoped someone would love ME that much some day.... ;).
-
Thank you everybody for that warm congratulations I'm very thrilled to get an invite to the Early Bird Dinner.
Come on Julia 99...Angie was mad, and Barnabas wasn't going to let him be pushed around by her, they were young, one thing led to another.... [love3] and to some people, sure, I can see where it could get out of hand...
but where I stand, they were passionate about each other and where it came down to it, they (Barnabas and Angelique) would do anything for each other. I wish I had a man like that.

The characters such as Barnabas, Julia, Angeqliue, Vicky, Prof. Stokes, Willie, Crazy Carolyn, Roger, etc., the storylines, most of them anyway! the drama, suspense, the supernatural occurrences, the adventures AND the BLOOPERS!! These are just a few things to love about Dark Shadows.

Dude, what's not to love! ;D
Here's a list of some of my fave things about DS:
-Barnabas, Quentin and Angelique - the "Big Three"
-The excellent writing, acting and care that usually went into the show
-David Collins - David Henesy should have won a daytime emmy if they had existed at that time
-The suspicious small-town gossip of Collinsport's residents - they knew the real deal about the strange things happening in "that house on the hill" and about the weirdness of "them Collinses."
-Count Petofi's mirthful, diabolic laughter and frequent use of the phrase "my dear boy!"
-The secret room in the mausoleum
-Chris Jennings and his snarling, hairy alter ego
-The fantastic, atmospheric sets
- Joan Bennett
- The incredible music
- The classic gothic horror/romance nature and themes of the series as a whole, and the gothic's otherwoldly quality which the series captures perfectly
- Carl and Pansy
- Quentin's gramophone
- Zombies, ghosts and phoenixes - oh my!
- The Maine accents of the Collinsport townies - especially in the early episodes
- Roger's frequent brandy breaks
- Julia's strength in the face of adversity
- The wonderful romances in the show
- Widow's Hill and its tragic history
- The series' literary plagiaris...er...I mean "adaptations" ;)
- Josette
- Sarah's ghost and her sad, sad song
- Adam
- The fact that DS is a class act
- Lines like "Willie!! You BETRAYED me!!!!"
- Nicholas' audience with Satan in hell ((!))
- 1795
- Judah's head and his horrible, ghastly glare
- Gerard's sneer
- The Blue Whale and the groovy tunes therein
- The ominous breathing of the Leviathan
- The Playroom theme
- The rich character relationships and character development
- Quentin, Beth, David and Amy playing "The Game"
- Longworth's "synthesis" and his other half's prodigious proboscis and wicked switchblade cane
- Quentin's Stairway into time (BTW, imagine what would happen if you stumbled on the stairway and fell down the stairs?! "Trippy" thought eh? ;D)
- Willie Loomis
- The Lottery
- 1995
- The "theatre" quality of the series, and the fact that the actors were like a repertory company and mainly came from theatre backgrounds
- The main theme with the angry waves crashing on the rocks - CLASSIC!
Ok, ok I'll stop now! It was starting to worry me that the "Things To Hate About DS" thread was double the size of the "Things To Love About DS" thread! :o I decided to give DS some more love in my 100th post! :)

The mystery, the music, the characters, I just love this show! The acting, the costumes, the actors. I sure hope that they do make a new version of this show. I was so sad that they killed last year's show, and I still have hopes for another network to pick up the old show. There is nothing like this on TV now, and there never was anything like this on TV. It is an original idea, something very rare.

I forgot:
- Victoria Winters and her opening voiceover monologues
-
Garth Blackwood, Quentin's portrait, thinking that Nicholas Blair was the devil himself until I realized later he wasn't, that inquisitive slightly perplexed look Julia makes at least once per episode, the idea behind the Judah Zachary story, and Angelique without the black wig.
-
Also, the time when Petofi was taunting Aristede as Blackwood approaches for the first time. I believe he said something like
"you are wasting the few precious moments you have left", and "how long it takes him to catch up to you depends only on how fast you can run".
I will also add Count Petofi to the list. I believe he was possibly the most well done character on the show-- he basically never had on screen mistakes, and he had some great lines not unlike the ones above.
-
Closing credits showing objects involved in the day's episode, fires and candles burning and breezes blowing, and people walking across the set.
Something to love about the Forum: threads that are kept available to be brought back to life years after their last post.
-
I agree that the opening monologues are an underrated but very important part of the show. They set the tone nicely for what previously happened and what is about to happen.

[blob3] [blob5] [blob6] Congratulations, Terry308, on reaching Senior status! [blob7] [blob10] [blob9]

You've only got several hundred more posts to make - which doesn't sound quite as bad when you say "only." [ghost_cheesy]
