Title: Today's 2012 Montage
Post by: Patti Feinberg on August 28, 2016, 06:18:32 PM
So, the montage on Main page is ghost of Josette asking 'Vicki', "Help me".

What exactly did Josette need help with?

Here's the installment from that day's slideshow:

1972 - Josette's Ghost: 'Help me.'

And as for what Josette needed help with, I believe the film leaves that up to the audience to figure out on their own - it's never really specifically stated/explained. However, I have a theory, and it involves the ending of the film...

To me, it was her plea to have Maggie (i.e., "Victoria"), her own reincarnation, to help rectify the tragedy that happened 200 years previous so she and Barnabas could be together again.

I loved, loved, LOVED, how Burton paid complete homage to the original by making Maggie Evans, not Victoria Winters, as the reincarnation of Josette in the film.  And yet he brilliantly incorporated Vicki.  In the '91 version, Dan Curtis jettisoned the original; apparently, the '04 did the same as well.  But Burton stuck with the original.  For those who hated the film, he was more beloved of the original than they were.

My theory is along those same lines.  [ghost_wink]

That same feeling is for me, regarding how I didn't understand how/why the 2012 had Roger being such a creep. Until I saw (am currently seeing) what a $^*^&# Roger was in early days. I had no clue, but, Burton must have!!

Or at least John August did since he's credited with the story...
