Title: Dark Shadows: The Beginning Collection 1
Post by: Mysterious Benefactor on June 10, 2016, 03:28:33 AM
If the Google Alert I just received for this page on the Seattle Public Library's Web site is any indication, apparently people in the Seattle area are watching the early DS eps via copies of The Beginning Collection 1 DVD set at the library:

Dark Shadows
The Beginning. DVD Collection 1 (https://seattle.bibliocommons.com/item/show/2620318030_dark_shadows)

If only more libraries carried them...

This is cool!!

A friend of mine on FB was mentioning something about DS, and, she said she had a friend who loves it (and she named me). I got to tell her about this group (longevity!!), and the cameos in the 2012 movie, and, about ((Abe Vigoda)) and I mentioned the uncredited Harvey Keitel.

A friend who lives in Portland OR says that the library has many, perhaps all, of the DS DVD sets, but they are so popular they are almost never actually in the building.  He was able to watch one of the Beginning sets featuring part of the Laura 1967 storyline which is his favorite, sometime last Wnter.

The circ info says that 10 copies are available--it should mean just of this set which is a lot, but it may mean total number of sets of DS.  One might have to ask one of the ref librarians for clarification.  I see that 6 are marked available and there are 2 holds marked.

It's really very nice to see just how popular DS continues to be with the public.

Another library that carries DS DVDs:

Dark Shadows: The Beginning, Volume 4, Episode 142 (https://onlib.overdrive.com/media/2350062)
If you're interested in Dark Shadows: The Beginning, Volume 5, Episode 171, you may also like: (https://onlib.overdrive.com/media/related/2350091)
If you're interested in Dark Shadows, Volume 1, Episode 23, you may also like: (https://onlib.overdrive.com/media/related/1976999)

It's interesting how they seem to list individual eps rather than summarise the entire DVD. But it's great how they let people watch a sample.

(This is soooo cool, being able to talk au current with this topic)

Yes, my first DVD is named The Beginning Volume; but it's got Discs 1-6, which carry episodes 1-53; air dates of 6/27/66-9/7/66.

(It's funny, when they show the dates, I sit there & think, 2 weeks + 3 years until a man is on the moon!!)

Hmm...I know when I put the DVD in, it says Beginning Collection, but, the disc case doesn't state it.

Patti,

If and when US astronauts make that long (six months?) flight to Mars, maybe they should take along the complete Dark Shadows DVD Collection to help them pass the time on their long journey?

Bob

PS If our astronauts DO meet actual Martians up there on the Red Planet, maybe they can turn the Martians on to the adventures of Barnabas, Willie, Julia, Maggie, etc.? [ghost_wink] [ghost_grin]
